Never expected to see this one on TL^^ Since I´m living there "Schlappen" is probably my fav bar. Although, most of the time I order Absinthe - Mata Hari. When I order Whiskey I usually order one of the samples with ~ five different Whiskies.

Vodka is a distilled, unaged spirit made from potatoes or grain. Whisky is a distilled, aged spirit made from germinated barley, with distilled grain added to "blend". So technically, a blended whisky before aged can be considered malt + grain vodka, but then again grain vodka is basically a definition-free beverage (as in, it can be made from almost anything). In order to start off as vodka, it would need to be already distilled. The logics!

Which is really strong, about 4x as much as most of the Islay malt. But the distiller insists on distilling 4 times, which makes sure the amount of phenol that makes it to the spirit is actually not that high at all. Definitely Islay-worthy, mind you, but the extreme prices for this are way over the top. Not that I wouldn't like to taste the 6.1 btw ![]() You have tasted an Octomore?

Yup, the 4.1 at some point. I didn't know that many whiskies back then, so I'm sure my judgement wasn't very refined, but I can remember it was good but not 'extremely' special to me. Especially when you consider the price. But maybe I should just try it again. I have a bottle of Port Charlotte which I would like to compare it against (which probably costs about 4 times less).

I want to broaden my Isle-collection though, and this one isn't usually available in Denmark. Opinions? Btw so happy to see this thread bumped once in a while. I liked the Tobermory 10. From what I remember it was pale yellow in color, clean, light spice, un-smokey peat (Ledaig is the peated version), some grassy sweetness. At 92pf it seemed about right with a pleasant heat. $60 is the upper end of what I would spend on it - the store I work at in the states charges less (about $52 i think) and we even have a relatively high markup. Still compared to some of the other island stuff around it's money well spent imo.

In Sweden the price difference for Port Charlotte and Octomore isn't that big. I do agree that Octomore is well marketed. However, there is not a single whisky that even comes close to the heavily peated taste that is Octomore. I've tasted Supernova from Ardbeg, and even though that one is a treat in itself, you can't compare it to the arson and wildfire that stays on your tounge when you had a taste from Octomore. So yes, maybe a bit overpriced, still a clear favorite of mine just because you can't compare it to anyhting else.

Very different from the ones I usually go for (smoke, Islay, peat), this one was very fruity, extremly well balanced. I like it a lot. Have to wait until I take it home to try in a real glass but from what the prelude told me, it's the real thing. Aint she the best?

If there is not, I was planning to set aside a few bucks each month and get a different bottle of whisk(e)y each month or bimonthly to grow my collection. Also thanks to christmas and my visit to Dublin over new years, I stocked up on a few new ones: Suntory Yamazaki - 12 years The Singleton of Dufftown - 12 years Jameson Distillery Reserve - 12 years
