Bullying does not assume a minority victim. Bullying in only characterized by the habitual nature of its violence (physical or psychological) and I do believe that bullying based on minority status is worse than bullying generally (and so does the law by precedent).

Holy fucking shit, that's highly disturbing. How can he not get suspended more than three days for that? The motives behind it are pretty irrelevant IMO, that's a brutal fucking beating no matter what. Straight up assault.

These are just kids. Any sensible adult would not do that knowing the repercussions for their actions. Also, does it make a difference what the reason for bullying is? If the boy who was beat up was heterosexual would it have any less merit? It's wrong either way and I feel there is too much emphasis placed on the boy's sexual orientation.

I remember in my middle school in Italy there was a case where 4 guys broke the arm of another defenseless one in the bathroom, 5 people were watching and nobody did or said anything. They didn't even get suspension and school acted like nothing happened. School is the place where kids experience real life first and if they can have their way with bullying and by displaying power and strenght then we shouldn't be surprised criminality is so high even in the most rich and socially advanced countries.

Gay or not, doesn't matter to me. Being suspended 3 days from school does. If he is of age he should be sent to jail/juvee, and suspended for a year at the least, and be forced to fail school that year.
Kids grow up doing stupid things, they learn what they did wrong much later in life and often apologize. Sadly the school system doesn't punish kids fast enough or hard enough.

And what should we do about that? cry? pff... And what's the big deal of a kid getting beat a little bit. If the whole fight is what is in the video, then i say he didn't get beat so much. If he was a normal kid all of the people would say: ''Well, that's bad, and the doer needs some sort of punishment.The kid will be ok.'' but just because he is gay all of you say: ''OMG! so sad. The doer needs severe punishment.'' Stop acting like the boy was killed for gods sake. He has been beaten, but pain is a part in everydone's life so stop overreacting....

Lots of people below you >.>, I'm guessing you don't mean me. But rather the people who are commenting "It doesn't matter, people get beat up in school." which is retarded. In TX I got into fights as a kid, in WA I didn't even get into one fight in school. The difference was how kids were punished, it was much more serious if you got into even a little scuff in a lot of places in WA.

About hate crimes in general, the fact that the kid is gay makes it a precise attack on a certain trait, not just a random beating. People beating each other is not good, one person beating another is a crime (since the kid got a crooked teeth and a commotion), one person beating another because he's gay, or jewish, or black is a hate crime and should be handled accordingly for the sake of society.

Sherlock and BlueStar, you two are not exactly giving me a good image of what life in Bulgaria is like here. 
I have no understanding for the whole ''This ain't so bad, people get beat up all the time''-mentality whatsoever. Hearing such nonsense drops my faith in humanity quite a bit. It is never ok in any way to straight up assault someone like this, and just because it has happened plenty of times before, and will happen plenty of times in the future as well, doesn't make it any more acceptable.
