Did he run out of ammo? Did he just surrender? Was he tackled by security? Why didn't they shoot him if he had a gun shooting wildly? etc.
To me it seems like it was very much his intention to be captured alive, just the same way he created a facebook profile and a twitter profile just some days ago, to get his own pictures out. The sad truth is that there probably was not a lot of security at the site, and surely noone with arms to combat a treath such as this. This kind of attack is totally unprecedented in norway. It is obvious that huge plans for a terrorist attack on oslo existed, and was very successfully implemented, but a killing spree like this? Unthinkable.
This lunatic seems to be a psychopath with a conspiratorial view on the world, and he targeted the party that has ruled Norway most of the time since 1945, as much as our whole system. The annual labour party youth camp on utøya can in many regards be seen as one of the building blocks of our political system, and what has happened is a direct attack on the whole concept of free political gatherings.
He has been active on document.no, which is a political blog that is very much against the current national policies towards immigration, as well as opposed to at least political islamism, and in some extent muslims as a whole. One could not however define document.no as an extremist site, and his posts there does not really point towards any use of violence like what we have seen.

In case some norwegian-speaking people want to take a look at this and post some tl;dr version:
http://www.document.no/anders-behring-breivik/ - a summary of his posts on a supposedly anti-muslemic website.
What's that site exactly and what type of things does he say there?

I'm pretty sure any type of criminal involved in crimes where children are hurt will get some hurt from other inmates.
But more importantly, my condolences to all the families of victims. Never a good thing to see violence against teens.

Man this is horrible, and that blog on the first page is heart-wrenching What's the situation like in Oslo? I'm supposed to travel there on Monday should I avoid it?

Hopefully they'll declare him insane in some way so they can lock him up forever on heavy doses of unpleasant pharmaceuticals.

Anders Behring Breivik is not anti-muslim specifically, but rather "anti-everything not Norwegian". He's against a multi-cultural Norway, not a specific people.

He's very very much against Islam and muslim, he feels that all the different parties in Norway are weak, and don't get it. Oh, and if you're wondering, he REALLY doesn't like muslims or anyone else for that matter. Like every post contains something against anything that isn't norwegian.

I answered that in the post above yours.

Not one single Norwegian reporter has been able to keep their emotion in check.

This may be a biased view being an American, but I fail to see how people from Norway are okay with something like this? He takes away the lives of so many individuals yet he gets to live in better accommodations than a fair amount of people in the world? Simply for the hopes of rehabilitating him in order to one day be released back into society and contribute to society once again? My heart goes out to those directly affected by this.
Revenge isn't going to do anything. And don't kid yourself, capital punishment is not justice it's revenge. Vengeance isn't enough to justify taking a human life.
I hope that he sits in prison for the rest of his life and comes to terms with just what he did. I hope he realizes just how much pain he has caused and spends the rest of his life, in prison, trying to atone for what he did but knowing that he never can.
I hope that Norway continues to stand resilient in the course of these events. I've been absolutely disgusted by what has happened today.

Im pretty sure that any (sane) bad guy in prison (thief, mobster etc) would make his life a living hell after killing so many kids.

This whole thing makes me profoundly sad. I can't even begin to comprehend the numbers. My condolences.

All the public shit is going pretty much, and stuff is running just fine I think.

Regardless of high standards in Norwegian jails; rest assured this guy will get the shit beat out of him for the rest of his life.

To be honest, not in this case. Life in Norwegian prison is a cake walk. It's not at all like US prison. He won't be molested by other prisoners. If what I've been reading isn't exaggeration, he'll actually have internet access, nice pillows, good lighting, and all-in-all better accommodations than many college dorms.
I'm all for rehabilitation and giving second chances. However, that said, there are some people that simply do not deserve it. The enormity of some crimes should not permit a chance at life. If there's one thing the US prison system does correctly, that is putting away the worst of the worst. These guys deserve no rehabilitation. They deserve solitary confinement and 0 interaction with other humans until they pass of old age. They deserve no further chances.

The norwegian prime minister just held his speech to the people.
He almost started crying, but held back the tears. Something I did not manage.
He was very clear in the fact that Norway has always been a land of free speech and that every individual has the right to have an opinion. He said that we will not be frightened into turning our country into a nation that does not trust its people. He said that even if one man has desecrated out pride and exploited the benefits of our free speech and gun-free society, we will not change our ways. We will still be as open and caring as we have always been.
Even though this has been one of the worst days in Norwegian history, I have never been more proud of my beloved Norway.

He will probably be able to take university level education in prison too.

My heart is crying. This is an extremely sad happening and I suffer together with the people of Norway.
