I take it as noob being the standard spelling, and newb being the slightly more leet-speech version if you want to be kewl. Which is ironic, as newb is closer to the original word newbie.
In the old days, I think people used the word newbie about someone that was new to the game and thus bad at it, while noob was someone bad and annoying.
Today I think noob just means someone bad at the game, new or annoying doesn't really matter.
Or that is how I read the word...

I think both words are useless and shouldn't exist tbh, as the idea they convey can be easily expressed with real words

1) it obviously futile. There is no way you can stop a word being used. And it'd be highly controversial to ban words even if it were possible.
2) the word obviously fills a role that other words don't, or people wouldn't use it. You may not think it is a role that should be filled, but that is your problem, and see 1.
Oh, and 3) real word? >_> maybe time to take your nose out of the encyclopaedia Britannica and see what is going on In real life, such as online. Yah, that's right, i just said that.

I didn't say it isn't futile to try to stop these words from being used, I didn't even say we should somehow try to stop them from being used. As for your 2, well no, people use it not because it fills a role that cannot be filled by other words, but because using it is a signal that one belongs to a group - here, the group being the vast, varied, and badly defined "gamers" group. Incidentally, this is also used by people outside that group to ridicule/mock/segregate the "gamers" group.
And I'm sorry if my "real word" part came off as insulting or something, what I meant can be better expressed with "already existing word". I'm surprised by your answer's aggressivity, though ; what makes you think I put my nose in the Encyclopaedia Britannica even once in my life, and doesn't know what happens in real life?

Sorry for the tone. I've had this conversation a few times before and I've gotten annoyed (as you noticed...) at the stance that people should speak "properly", and be discouraged to extend the language to, as you say, "signal that one belongs to a group". If people can say what they want, and at the same time give context about which groups they belong to, isn't that great? I think that the disapproval of the word is a disapproval of the group it is associated with more than the word itself.
So well, be annoyed at the person, not the choice of words. Or something...

Yeah, I agree about all that, especially that the disapproval of the word is a disapproval of the group but I would add that the word is one of the sources of the dissaproval of the group. Which is why I would prefer if it didn't exist, that would be one less angle of attack for medias and haters.

Newb or Newbie denotes inexperience and newness
Noob removes the sense of newness and suggests that the flaw comes from lack of skill more than lack of development.

Looks kind of like a sugar glider. You can have those as pets though.

There are a lot of cute little marsupials.
The sugar gliders in the photo don't seem to be suffering much from the dressing up.

*-*
Nah, as long as the things they're wearing aren't hindering or annoying them. I usually think that some of the costumes and pet-wear look silly, but I wouldn't say it's animal cruelty.

What if you're a newoob? 2 parts skill-less and 1 part inexperience?
Or maybe a Nuub? You lack experience but one day you'll help Goku save the world?
NO.ob? A noob who always has a blank stare?

Nub, or its diminutivo nublet. Nooblar isn't spelled with ew!

Is the passing of time perceived as constant universally, or do people just register it at a constant rate because our brains evolved to think at a fixed rate?
|
I'd imagine that based on the situation, some people might think that time has slowed down (e.g., being bored in a classroom or watched pot) or that time has sped up (e.g., some sort of timed competition or losing track of time). But our units of time are rather arbitrary constructs allowing us to use the same vocabulary when speaking about durations of time, so any sort of registering that time is speeding up or slowing down is pretty much just an inaccuracy by that person (save for any lightspeed-related incidents I suppose).

So much war and war like crisies in the world. Why do humans want/try/enjoy? killing eachother so much? :/

You're on a Starcraft forum. A third of the people here like to imagine killing other people with guns. A third like to imagine cutting each other to pieces with lazor swords. A third wish they could do it with their bare hands/claws.
