Yeah this. These movies definitely require a suspension of disbelief, but fuck. Sure, maybe they have sweet ass bat-helicopter technology, there's fusion reactors now that doctors can convert into weapons ezpz, etc. Sci fi tech, sure.
A crowd charging into a line of people with automatic weapons, though? I know it's a minor thing, but that totally blew my suspension of disbelief. I saw that, and literally thought "welp, that's retarded, every one of those people would be dead in about 30 seconds". It just ruined my immersion....
The broken back thing was also pretty dumb.
And yeah, the villain death scenes (Bane deserved a lot better than that, and Talia's was just....awful...) were terrible.
Overall, a decent movie, and pretty entertaining in the end. But definitely had some stupid shit in it that ruined immersion for me. It's not good when, during the movie, you actually sit back and think "that was fuckin' stupid".

4/10, would not watch again.
agreed... this movie sucked.

Why not blow up everything instantly ? (okay yeah I know that they have to have hope bullshit) batman knew the bomb would blow up, he was supposed to watch gotham crumble in his cell as torture. the trigger was a failsafe, i guess, just in case they had to blow it - Robin orphans superpower make him know he is batman because he met him for 5 minutes years ago and no one else figures it out robin was pretty sure, but he did say 'if you are him'. Those two characters share a lot of issues around dealing with parents dying tragically, so robin could understand bruce wayne more than a lot of people - Robin runs around and does virtually nothing, even at the en where he tries to save some people its ultimately batman who saves them not Robin it shows character, that robin cares for and would risk his life for innocent people, like a hero - The cop vs. bad guys fight were they charge against people with automatic weapons ... yeah that was silly - Bane died a bit to easy who says he's dead :O - Batman seems like his back is broken and this prison doctor just fixes him by hanging him there ... the 'doctor' did punch his vertebrae a bit :p - Batman really seems very very crippled at the start of the movie but then kicks ass like nothing ever happened not realistic, true, but it represents how wounded he is (emotionally, mentally, physically) - How did batman get on the island ? he's batman :D - thousands policemen living in the sewers were they are trapped for month ... and none of them had beards!

Interesting points! Just came from the movie and thought I'd chime in.
About Bain, it was a crappy movie death for a villain like him, they never said he was dead. He seemed like a really tough guy, and I'd like to see him in the next film, bigger and meaner. I was kind of disappointed he wasn't the juiced up juggernaut he was in the cartoon. Maybe they're saving it. Just a guess.

There won't be another film, not with Nolan and Bale at least.
|
Wasn't Batman given a gadget to put on his leg to fix it near the beginning of the movie? I'm sure he did. I thought the film was pretty good. One of the better action movie out there.

I for one thought the movie had too many close calls.
1. Batman magically showing up when Gordon was walking to his death on ice 2. Batman magically showing up (again) when Robin was about to die to the terrorist 3. Catwoman (somehow knowing where batman was in the midst of the chaos between the cops and the terrorist) shows up and saves batman right when bane was about to shoot him with the shotgun. 4. Batman saving catwoman from Bane and his henchmen on the roof tops 5. Gordon finding the truck that had the bomb and then using the device to neutralize it. One minute later, the lady presses the detonator and the bomb doesn't go off. 6. Gordon being injured in the hospital when two henchmen show up to kill him and he manages to kill them. But, where did he get the gun from in the first place? 7. Gordon rolling into the sewer water and somehow manages not to get hit by any bullets from automatic machine guns.
I am sure there is more but these are what I remember from off the top. Feel free to add to the list if you like.

One last thing. What happened to all of the criminals with automatic weapons? They just disappeared? lol
|
This movie was soo good i didn't know if it would shape up to the last one but it did only thing i didnt like was bane's voice, sounded like such a douche canoe
|
I didn't like it. So much hype, so little content. Heath Ledger was the best! They should officially retitle The Dark Knight as Joker.

I just saw it, and skimmed the last few pages of this thread, but there's one thing I really don't get that I'd like explained: what was Bane's deal?
like, as far as I can tell his whole plan was 1. acquire a nuke 2. induce anarchy by holding the city hostage with said nuke 3. nuke the city anyways lolol. I guess he was trying to teach us a valuable lesson about human nature in that if you get rid of all the cops and release all the prisoners, some people might commit crimes and we might as well nuke the lot?
then they spent a good amount of screentime explaining his backstory, only to reveal at the last minute that "jk lol, that was actually someone else's backstory, the person you were interested in was one of the extras in the background"
and I still have no idea what his abilities are... I guess he can defeat Batman in a fistfight due to secret ninja training and beating up nerds in prison? why does he wear a mask? I know it hurts him if you hit him there a few times, but does he die without it? does it make him immune to pain? does it transform an inhuman growl of a voice into a distinguished British accent? is there a little tube in it so that he can slurp up food?
Besides that, the effects were awesome (especially the beginning scene with the plane), and Catwoman was a much more interesting villian/anti-hero, and the ending was pretty sweet. I'm just a little disappointed because clearly Nolan is trying to tell a complex story with complex characters and send a complex message that makes us think complex thoughts, on a bigger scale than in the Dark Knight. He's trying so hard... but all that's really coming across is that Batman kicks ass and doesn't need cartilage or a spine to do it and Anne Hathaway is hot.

-typical Nortan action sequences that are hard to follow and expose his poor directing when it comes to action
-dumb shit like the doctor suddenly being sent to the fusion core thing and then two minutes later he's like "ok now it is a 4 megaton bomb" just felt like lazy writing, ok baddie has a nuclear bomb me understands now
-a lot of plot holes like how Bale got back to Gotham, what happened in the end to bane's army? why did they just allow that cop and some other dudes to wander around Gotham, what the fuck was even going on in Gotham after Bane took it? it just seemed like everyone was just indoors lazying around and this made it feel pointless and made "the revolution" a little bathetic
-why did anyone want to work for Bane knowing that as soon as you have done your job you get killed
1, Agree, but its a movie based on comics. Cheesey Dialog is part of the deal sometimes. Cops being horribly stereotypical in comics is standard. Some transfer doesnt ruin a movie.
2. No worse then 90% of every other action directors
3. They explain this earlier in the movie about who the Doctor is and why they are able to turn the reactor into a bomb. Scientists do way more insane shit in the comics (REMEMBER THATS WHAT THIS SERIES IS BASED ON!)
4.Its a city of millions and they are acting as insurgents. They can sneak around, Gotham is a big place. Fear keeps people indoors as anyone of stature or wealth was being rounded up and executed. Banes "Army" were just released bag guys from prison, militia at best. You think the Army surrounding the city had issues putting them down or they just fled afterwards taking to opportunity at their freedom vs jail again. No loyalty to bane what so ever.
5. 1 word;Venom.
All in all it was a decent movie. Maybe more paying attention to whats being said instead of looking for the next muzzle flash would allow you to enjoy it more. Also if your completely unfamiliar with the various comics that feature Batman then I really dont blame you for not enjoying it as much as some, there is a lot of fan service(comic fans that is)

It´s........a Batman movie alright. Just feels like a letdown after the Joker movie.
Why do several thousand men armed with pistols and assault rifles charge and then punch each other. Why are we forcefed so much copious backstory at once? Why is the fucking prison in a well so "unescapable"? It has rope hanging downwards, no visible guards and electricity.
The whole thing with the nuke was stupid too. The core could be turned into a bomb by 1 guy with no problems, in such a way that it can only be defused by attaching it back to the reactor. Was that some kind of magic? Even Iron Man had better science than that.
Miss Heath Ledger. All he needed was some guns, some gasoline and some dynamite. Not a fucking nuclear bomb, on which he then sat 3 months.

How about this question, which pertains to both the dark knight and this one; where do the bad guys get all their henchmen who are willing to die for the villan without batting an eye?

Suicide bombers do that shit in real life, and this is just a movie. Some suspension of disbelief, and this is not a problem.
IMO the movie was great. Far from perfect (the bomb stuff was just way to hollywoodesce, "oh man 5 minutes left and there's no hope BUT WAIT there is hope, no shit there isn't, OR IS THERE!?") but I liked how the story from the comics was adapted for the movie and I thought everything was very well portrayed, especially Bane and Catwoman. I HATED "The Bat" since it should be a proper batwing, but meh. Also pretty dumb that Blakes real name was Robin, you felt like the movie took you for a fucking idiot. "Oh, yeah, if you didn't know, this dude actually becomes robin." Yeah, we knew that from the start, it was very obvious, you didn't have to fucking name him Robin. His real name should have been Dick Grayson, that way it would be a nice throwback to people who know about the comics, and everyone else would still realize he was Robin.

^ About Hollywood'esque thing... I hate the usual "1 minute on Bomb timer = 10 minutes of the movie". Everytime I see such things... I wonder why they do that and doesn't... I don't know, put realistic durations... ?
I mean, you don't need a Ph.D to see that it's inaccurate, and I don't feel more "pressure" seeing "OMG 5 - 4 - 3 minutes left" all along the last 30 minutes of the movie...

Thought this movie sucked.... the cops had riot shields when they went charging into the tunnels but they somehow forgot them when they charged a bunch of hooligans armed with automatic weapons?
Oh, and he escaped a fucking 1 megaton nuclear bomb!?!?!? Those were my two main gripes but the rest of the movie didnt hold back on the BS either. Will not watch again.

do not spent your time w this movie, absolute bullsh*t. I'm disapointed, they just crash batman story and piss on it

Some plot twists were far too obvious.
Miranda always being in the thick of it, inexplicable gaining Bruce's trust, Bane talking about not having seen light well into his adolescence, thus making it obvious he couldn't be the one having escaped from the "well" and Batman having survived the explosion, which felt extremely cheesy. I would have much prefered him being actually dead, which would be at least consequential.
Then there was "The Bat", which seemed to be the be all end all and much and more of the action focused about it. First he escaped with it from the cops, then him and Catwoman escaped with it from Bane, then he freed the cops with it, then he chased the bomb-carrying truck, then he flew the bomb away into savety. Come on, the vehicle is cool, but not cool enough to get more screen time than Alfred and Lucious Fox combined.
On the other hand, I loved Nolan's take on Robin. It's the first decent Robin I have ever seen in any Batman adaptation, who didn't seem chi
