I always play a healer in mmos, and I'm sad to say the mercenaries healing seem to suck at this point. The heat fills up way to fast, and after using my one spell to remove heat (with two min cd) I have no other ways of keeping people alive when things are rough (unless I've overlooked something).

The most glaring flaw of the game is that it plays it so goddamn safe. Here they have a huge, expansive, IP to take advantage of and they decided to go the baby route with it. They didn't take any chances. Which really miffed me from the start considering how much shit could have been done but wasn't. But I guess that's the story for plenty of games these days. In a lot of ways, as flawed as it was on launch, SWG offered a lot more to people who like MMO's. There was player housing, a player economy, player set goals, a leveling system that encouraged experimentation and offered ways to change classes if dissatisfied, and social interaction through gameplay. Example. I played a Smuggler. I made my fortune selling Muon Gold and Neutron Pixie in Cantina's. I would go from world to world peddling my illicit substances to regular customers, and try to edge out other smugglers through competitive pricing. I sliced (upgraded) weapons for one of the best crafstman on the server. All my armor and clothing was created by a Fashion Designer who owned a huge fucking mansion and would custom-make your stuff to your specifications. When I got tired of Smuggler, I became a commando to help combat the abuse of AT-ST's. My friends and I sat out on quests across planets to find notable Star Wars NPC's like Han Solo and Chewbacca. If you didn't want to be a hero, you could play an Entertainer, a Cook, or an Image Designer or Fashion Designer. You could be that guy who sat in a cantina all day talking, and still progress in your class and feel satisfaction and build a reputation for yourself. As a smuggler, the personal quest was sort of interesting, but ultimately I just shot shit to death and made a few dialogue options. Not once did I really feel like I was a smuggler. Perhaps my expectations are far too high, I don't know. The production quality has DEFINITELY increased from when I first played it, that's a huge bonus. I'm getting significantly less lag than when I did a week ago and it feels a lot more refined. I don't know what the fuck they were waiting for, but thank god they finally did it. That was my biggest complaint to be honest. Those bugs that I reported on a few dozen pages back are no longer present (except some sound stopping randomly in cutscenes, but happens far less frequently). The game itself seems far more balanced, and mobs aren't spawning seconds after I kill them either. Honestly, I do feel like a lot of my criticism was unwarranted earlier on in the thread -- especially granted since they fixed a lot of shit. I just can't bring myself to enjoy this game truly, it seems. I mean, I mildly enjoyed the Smuggler as I leveled him but it in retrospect was mostly from me nostalgiaing back to my SWG days. I had significantly more fun than I did at first, I will give this game that and the combat did feel a bit more engaging, but yeah. I'll try it out again in 6 months ![]() Hope the rest of you are enjoying the game! Remember, this is just my opinion and you can vehemently disagree if you wish. I wish this game the best of luck for those whom are playing it and whatnot. Hopefully EA doesn't bumfuck you as they inevitably always do.

Just wanted to say if these are your feelings on the game then this probably isn't the game for you. SWTOR is and never will be a sandbox MMO, its pretty much a themepark game all the way.

The heat fills up way to fast, and after using my one spell to remove heat (with two min cd) I have no other ways of keeping people alive when things are rough (unless I've overlooked something). In case you didn't know, heat isn't like mana (for that style of healing you should play a sorceror/sage), it regenerates at different rates depending on how much has been built up (this is the same for agent's energy as well), this is why using combat support cylinder turns Rapid Shots into a heal, it may do very little but it's free and allows you to maintain low heat when big heals are not needed, balancing this vs keeping everyone alive (and the use of vent heat during oh crap moments) is the challenge with the BH healer. The Operative healer is similar but have more ways to regenerate energy (but balanced by the use of the Tactical Advantage mechanic), while the Sorceror is similar to a stereotypical MMO healer (they will need to balance use of consumption but with the larger resource pool, it's no where near as fine a line as the other 2).

I think we need to differentiate between two categories. Firstly, there are the balance problems with PVP, which we really cannot fault anyone as it is very much early days for TOR. Things like a bit too much CC are simply class imbalances and can get fixed easily over time. The second and more important category are the game engine issues. The OP mentioned 3 of these: casting responsiveness, buff/debuff notifications, difficulty of targeting. In the long term, these issues are generally more game making or breaking than the balance issues. I feel these issues are even deserving of their own thread but I will post about them here first. Engine issues vary in difficulty to fix. For example, being able to target enemies by clicking on their nameplates is a relatively easy change that we don't need to discuss. Buff/debuff notifications also do not need a complete overhaul to make it clear which debuffs on the enemy are your debuffs. Responsiveness is probably a lot harder to improve but I will not speculate since I am not a game designer. A few other game engine issues I'd like to add that were not mentioned in the OP. They may have been mentioned in the last 17 pages but I'm not going to flip through them all. 1) Macros - not really a gameplay 'issue', but still a HUGE part of gameplay in games that have them. Are there any plans to implement them? In 'that other game', macros play a huge part in pvp. I don't mean one-button macros; I'm talking about macros allowing you to cast something on focus/mouseover targets, etc. 2) A self-target key - this is especially annoying for healers, but incredibly easy to implement that I'm surprised it hasn't already been. A setting so that whenever you press a certain modifier, your spell is cast on yourself instead of your target. 3) Target of target - seeing who your target is casting on is pretty important. Shouldn't be too hard to implement. Class imbalances are certainly on BioWare's mind and they will be paying very close attention to rectify any problems. But are they ready to change or alter the game engine with regards to the above? A simple 'yes' regarding this question would pacify many players. It would certainly make me very happy, for one. ![]() Thoughts?
