Just finished the game and i didn't get a few things. + Show Spoiler + Is Darrow part of Illuminati or not? If not, what exactly have they done so far, or wanted to do, that justifies his whole plan? Also who is Darrow anyway? Either i missed it or he never got introduced, he just appears to be higher ranked than Sarif in Sarifs own industry. What exactly is so special about Adam? What have they been doing in the facility when he was a baby? And what the hell is this computer thing at the end. Since Eliza is still "alive" afterwards it is not the super AI , so what does it do?

He's the guy who created the first mechanical augmentations and he's a leader in the field, but I guess he also owns Picus (the news network) and obviously Panchea as well. His position is actually Taggart's stated position - mechanical augmentation is too dangerous, used by the privileged to keep the underclasses down, etc. How or why he came to that realization isn't made clear nor does it really make sense why he funded the largest research institution for a technology he dislikes. They say he's just jealous because he can't receive implants, but that's a really shitty explanation. I don't think he's in the Illuminati (he may have defected), but Taggart is and wants regulation basically so the Illuminati can control it. But Taggart also tells Jenson he should basically be the world's dictator or let the Illuminati do it, which is also pretty stupid and completely against the liberty arguments he made earlier. Plus the Illuminati were the ones who distributed the new biochip through Tai Yong Medical which gave them the ability to control everyone, so Taggart's anti-aug position doesn't make much sense if he wants the Illuminati to control things. What exactly is so special about Adam? His body doesn't reject the implants. Other people need that drug, neuropozyne, otherwise the implant will slowly kill them. How that leads into the mech augs from DX1... no idea. I'm curious why some augs are stronger than others though. Just the grade of technology? Who's making the stuff for the bad guys such that it's so much better than what Sarif Industries can produce. What have they been doing in the facility when he was a baby? They killed a bunch of babies until they found one with special DNA (Adam.) And what the hell is this computer thing at the end. Since Eliza is still "alive" afterwards it is not the super AI , so what does it do?
I have no idea, but it was apparently a quantum computer which is a bigger deal than having mechanical arms. EDIT: From the Wiki When Adam arrives in the Hyron Project chamber, he discovers that it is indeed a very advanced computer network - but its operational status depends on three human females connected to it via special interface suits.
Before having further time to examine it, Zhao Yun Ru appears and connects herself to the Hyron in an attempt to control it, and alter Darrow's broadcast to the Illuminati specifications. But the system doesn't recognize her biochip, and so she cannot take full control of it. However, she does manage to activate the defenses, consisting of turrets and security bots. Adam is forced to eliminate the female drones first, before being able to take out Zhao. Firstly, wtf with the girls? This seems straight out of Minority Report. I guess the system doesn't recognize her because Darrow designed it that way thinking she'd try it? He could've just killed her. I don't know, she's just kind of a faceless character (that nearly seduces Adam!) making a power grab.

Ty in advance. o_o
Don't get the augmented edition. The OST is great but it can be found on the net.

+ Show Spoiler +I think he's more of a double agent. In that he might appear to be part of the Illuminati, but he has his own agenda. Primarily being that he is personally jealous of people with augmentations since he himself can't have them and wants his own creation to die. Plus he has fears that the Illuminati will control people with the biochip in this heads.
I do think he is part of the Illuminati though since you can see blueprints of Hyron in Zhao's penthouse as well as the suits that the conduits in Hyron wear in her penthouse as well. So he did get that technology from TYM, and TYM is pretty much Illuminati run.

It's Deus Ex, so the answer to things like that is Illuminati most likely is involved. Like maybe he was a genetic experiment or something. I didn't pay attention during that mission, and I probably should have since it's supposed to be a big plot point.

Eliza is controlled in Montreal in the Picus building. But it's poorly explained what it is too though. Given the after credits discussion with Bob Page about "sifting through wreckage for the Morpheus initiative" it might be a precursor to that. And it's also slightly confirmed later on as well when you head deep into the subterranean bunker with a statue in the foyer of a hand enveloping the world. The same style of statue is behind Everett in the Illuminati end to the first Deus Ex.

Darrow is a bitter one that masks his intentions and justifies his actions through seemingly logical arguments when in fact he's the most self-serving of the cast.
Also the Illuminati is not a happy family, do not treat it as such.

+ Show Spoiler +According to the Wiki, Everett is the CEO, Darrow is the founder.
If the Illuminati want to control everyone (and do so through biochips) and they also control Picus, then why is Picus sending out anti-augmentation propaganda?
Darrow being self serving about augmentation seems so stupid. He's at the end of his life and the technology hasn't been around that long anyways.

Easiest way to control populations is to give them the illusion of choice, in this case pro/anti aug.

His real parents decided to burn down the facility (and leave adam to die?) It just doesnt occur to me, why it have to be babies and what exactly they did to them. And due to coincidence he then ends up with megan, who also searches for the same cure.

The whole thing really needed to get flushed out with Talion AD included. That was the most compelling part of the entire game, imo.

just finished my first playthrough of this... its 6am here and i spent the last 6 hours finishing the game up. this game is definitely the best i've played all year, all things considered.
one thing i really liked was how they handled stealth, and the takedowns were VERY VERY satisfying. one time i even did a + Show Spoiler + and i felt so badass. other times when i got my cover blown i felt like i was in actual danger and could die any moment. things like this gives a real sense of tension and immersion. well done DXHR, well done.

Question: I jsut did the sidequest "Cloak and Daggers". Knocked out the dude and killed all his buddies. Quest marker is now showing me a random building that I can't get into and still says I haven't "Neutralized the gang members". Is this a bug or am I really supposed to go somewhere else?
|
I enjoyed the game, played it rambo-style as I'm not really the stealthy kind of guy. I was just sad at the lack of an epilogue though, would've loved to run aronud in the different areas and talk to people after it was all said and done and feels a bit cheap to not have that. + Show Spoiler +Except on the ending where he blows the building up of course, seems logical that you can't continue there.

So... I bought the game yesterday evening on steam and downloaded it in the night, because it's been a loooong time since I played a good single player game and I saw excellent reviews for this one. Looks pretty awesome and I can't wait to get back from work to start playing
That said, I did not play the first two Deus Ex episodes and I know nothing about the story, Is there anything that I should know concerning the story and background before I start playing so that I'm not lost? or can I just jump into it without knowledge of the previous story?
|
I jumped into it with no previous knowledge Bob, and I quite liked it so I don't think you do.
|
BoB in the deus ex timeline it's a prequel to the other two games so no knowledge is neccessary/useful.

Oh ok, I didn't know that, well that's prefect I guess then

Bob, I haven't played the other 2 and this was one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. The story is explained clearly, and I didn't feel like I missed anything

I really don't feel like reading the thread because of spoilers but would you guys recommend this to someone who loved the first game for it's story and atmosphere? Also the role playing elements combined to shooting were pretty good, but that was less important.
How does this compare to Deus Ex?
What kind of hardware are you guys running this on? How does it run? The game is out for ps3 and xbox 360 so I would assume it runs with a 3-4-year old computer (provided that it once was pretty "high end").
|
I'll answer the hardware question, I ran it at 800x600 with a HD2400, Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz and 4GB Ram, just upgraded a week ago, runs smoothly at 1400x900 on a HD5770
