Genoa is interesting in that two of your trading posts are in Golden Horde territory, meaning you want to do your best not to get dragged in a war against them. You also have Lesbos (next to Ottomans) and then a few provinces at home. Basically if you want to have any friends in the east, you're going to lose a lot of prestige in the process. As Muscovy, you can play an economic-focused expansion game. You're always going to be in fights with the Golden Horde, and if you take Economic/Trade ideas (usually you'd take expansion and/or religious, but you have leeway as Muscovy so it's not necessary), you can use the land you conquer to create your own silk road from the east to Novgorod or Kiev. You can also try Portugal and build a trade empire via colonies. You'll get trade power transferred from Brazil/Africa to you in Seville, and you're not OP like Spain if you want to screw around with the North African countries. Aragon is the same deal, except instead of Brazil your trade is coming from the Mediterranean islands (like Sicily, etc.) and you also have to watch out for Castille PU'ing you, which means you have to deal with the French, either allying them or some other shenanigans. | ||

Great trade-oriented ideas, best trade node in the game outside of the end-nodes (Zanzibar), and a decently difficult start - you start with a center of trade but that's pretty much all the positives going for you. | ||

What have you done in your ten hours? I started as Castile twice, first time was fairly short and I got crushed by my neighbors because I did some stupid stuff. My second try is still running and going way better so far, I got a good portion of northern Africa and some colonies overseas, though France crushed me cause I was way out of position and I stopped playing since it was late anyways. I'll see if I can salvage the situation from one of the autosaves. Though I won't be too sad when I have to start over, I'd do a lot of things differently (presumably better). I'll just keep playing with the wiki open | ||

You can play really agressive in Northern Africa though. They are no match for you and your allies. At some point you want to decide if you want to backstab your big brother Castille/Spain but you probably have to play dirty and ally France for that. | ||
