I found that I just needed the llanfair timer to finally get me motivated in starting speedrunning. While Raelcun was the catalyst to getting me started I just love watching my times get lower and lower.
Blue splits give me a rush haha.
Also, I highly recommend routing your own path at the game before looking at running tactics. By doing my own routes and then incorporating speedrunning tactics it created a far more solid route where I knew the in and outs of the game. While I haven't finished with the sc2 brutal campaign yet, it feels like I know the in's and out's far better than super meat boy or amnesia because I worked initially without the speedrun tactics. On the other hand, I looked at the speedrunning tactics for amnesia without doing my own routing essentially biasing my entire playthrough. So i've had to work backwards in figuring out what works or what is advantageous. An example is using a chair at the choir-transept skip. I would be using the chair as a higher set point but not really know why I was doing it in the first place.

Blue splits are indeed awesome. I've had some issues with Llanfair so I only use it with games that I need to. If you really really like blue splits you can always customize the colors on wsplit. I know controllerhead customized his so that they're always green even when losing time.

Hi fellow speedrunners. I just did a casual speedrun of Braid yesterday. I did beat the time of Cyberbotx from awesome games done quick 2013. (In-game timer).
I wish I had seen this thread one day earlier so I could have posted the link for live view. Anyhow, if you wanna watch the recording, here it is: http://www.twitch.tv/kanban85/c/1997014 (starts after 5 min. I messed up on my first try (and the editing)...)

Anyone else getting a malware warning when you try to go to the SDA forum?
Anyway, I really want to get into speedrunning but I prefer PC games and I can't really think of any PC games that I'd want to speedrun, haha. Gonna keep looking. I love that we have some accomplished runners in this thread, though.

So I'm about to make a WR attempt on GS1 100%. In the process I will be breaking GS1 more than anyone thought possible lol. Feel free to stop by!

We theorized with S about a god run being close to 1:45, so we both aimed for 1:46 as a good realistic goal. And then I get sub 1:45. It's been pretty much a perfect run with perfect Sunshine Autos luck. There has been a couple of mistakes that cost each a few seconds but nothing major. I don't think this will be improved any time soon. :D This has been a good evening. :D http://www.twitch.tv/tyriounet/c/1992881
Yep Congrats Tyr ! Now get ready for the GTA Race on saturday

Another record in Ace Combat 4

In game time is down to 2:23:33.
I want to take another 2 minutes or so off in game time before I'm satisfied with it.

Good day for TL I guess?
![[image loading]](http://www.teamliquid.net/staff/Plexa/splits.jpg)
It's great that after I think I've totally broken and understood the game, strange things can still pop up in runs which force me to go back and do more work on the run. While I need to go back and count the number of hard resets, there should be approximately 58 of them. That adds nearly 5 minutes to this time - which is still 7-8 minutes quicker than the WR. Tons of stuff for me to work on though, and not satisfied with this run yet. Back to RNG manipulation and trying to understand why things like missing the goblin run on the way back from lunpa happened.
EDIT: After some tests, I've concluded that the strange results were the result of missing the rainbow kills of Saturos and Tret and Ivan dying vs Manticore. As such, my RNG methods are sound except that are dependent on levels. That's a good thing, it means I can be satisfied with my route and just need to focus on not messing it up (yay I don't have to spend a week figuring out these rng methods!). Werster has already let me know that he plans to take the record back so I'm really interested to see what approach he takes.

Congratulations. :D
Teamliquid getting all the records !

Wondering your guys advice as to picking a game to speed run. I've seen a big recommendation being a game I enjoy but their are some games I like to take my time with. Example: I've enjoyed playing FTL...but I like taking my time building my "ship of doom". (I've actually been surprised by the demise of some of them).
As for what games I like: I play a lot of RPGs and rts although I have also been playing some platformers lately (Rayman origins and mark of the ninja)
(Although as I think on this a Final Fantasy Tactics speedrun begins appealing to me. Would certainly be different than the power leveling I normally do)

(Although as I think on this a Final Fantasy Tactics speedrun begins appealing to me. I thought about it a lot beforehand, trying to decide which ship is the fastest, but eventually I just stopped procrastinating and just did it. Now I'm having a lot of fun with it even though it's been really frustrating trying to get sub-20:00. So I would suggest just trying it once or twice and see how you feel about it. You'll decide soon enough for yourself if it's something you enjoy or not.

Congrats to Plexa/Raelcun if we keep this up we will need a very long list to keep track of the TL WRs

If I remember right FF tactics takes the chain of memories / Dragon Quest approach of farming for most of the speed run but I've not seen a run in ages nor know anyone who stills runs it so I could be wrong.
Raelcun can help you with Mark of the ninja if you want to get into that and I know Spikevegeta does Rayman Origins any% (Not sure anyone has done 100% for that game yet).

(Although as I think on this a Final Fantasy Tactics speedrun begins appealing to me. Would certainly be different than the power leveling I normally do) You and I are in a similar boat. For me it's simply a matter of available time, and playing what I can with what I have until I find it.
Tactics is my favorite game of all time, hands down, and a few months ago I was extremely motivated to give it a shot. That motivation hasn't left me, but single segment runs will likely take upwards of 4 hours, time I can't afford until probably this summer unfortunately. If you're looking to get into Tactics and want someone to discuss with, in a couple months time you might hear from me.
In the mean time I've been in the market for shorter games, 1-2hrs. Playin' a lot of Dark Souls still, and trying runs now and then. I also ordered a copy of Ace Combat 4 since Raelcun's runs not only opened my eyes to trying a game I love, but also made me realize I don't own a copy of one of my all-time favorites. Going to be giving that a shot in the next few days, assuming it gets here today I hope.

Disappointed that I missed your run Plexa. I left when you got pretty frustrated with the 2 hrs of resets on. I know personally if I get upset and let it get to me then my gameplay will bomb. Grats on the record, composing yourself and breaking the 5 hr barrier.

There's a big GTA race tomorrow. GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas will be raced in that order by top GTA speedrunners, including all 3 WR holders !
It's starting at 10am GMT and will probably go on all day and half of the night. It's going to be awesome.

Spike actually did an Origins 100% within the last couple of weeks and IIRC said he may start doing more. (Dont quote me on that though I was half distracted doing some "important" testing for CoM)
Coming from someone that started speedrunning recently. Keep your eyes open for games that look interesting to run. I run CoM and honestly I wasnt a great fan of it when I played it casually, but I'm having a ton of fun running it. Sometimes it may not be something you remember but something that has interesting mechanics that you enjoy.

Brought my PB/record for FTL down by almost 5 mins! I've been trying to get sub 20:00, but I only managed to squeak in 20:45. My execution on the flagship fight was really sloppy, which made for a thrilling finish, but I could have saved more time with better decisions. I also picked the wrong choice on an optional fight in sector 3, which also wasted a good amount of time. Of course more time can be saved with better luck on the jump locations/path, but I have no real control over that (as far as I know).
