Miami's team fit together pretty damn well in the 1st year. They made the NBA Finals how much more of a fit do you need?

They definitely made it work VERY well, but I think you have to admit that it at least looked a little questionable on paper. The idea of two of the most ball-dominant perimeter players in the league with shaky perimeter shots playing together doesn't sounds like the most complementary pairing. I freely admit to being one of the people who were skeptical about how well they'd be able to play off of each other because it looked like a lot of redundancy between the two.

On the other hand, the Lakers combination of stars looks like they'd mesh together better on paper from the outset. That doesn't guarantee anything in terms of what will actually happen on the court, but it would appear to make more sense than Miami's team up intuitively. Of course, this is assuming that Kobe actually changes his ball-dominating ways and learns to play well with everyone.

To me it wasn't questionable at all since both of them are top tier defensive players, with the ability to do other things on offense besides scoring. Even with shaky jumpers their ability to cut in and out of lanes (especially Wade since he is the best slashing guard ever imo) would have eventually fit.

I'm not sure about the Lakers meshing at all just yet. It's more of a problem of where is the space offensively (Orlando suffered badly when they relied on Dwight to carry them offensively if they stopped hitting 3s) and how they cope with a Kobe/Nash back court which is one of the worst defensively especially with Kobe being worse last year.

I'm sure if anyone could get the defense together Mike Brown can. However seeing how Wade/Lebron/Durant all went off against Dwight Howard led defenses for years I don't have much optimism for them beating OKC/Miami yet.

The NBA has been on a roll every year since the 2007-2008 season. They've had some absurdly good story lines every year.

There's a reason why he's been on 7 teams in his career and only started on one. Averaging 33 MPG ofc. ._.

For anyone calling me an idiot, 33 is kinda normal for a starter, but it's also low tier for one as well (him being a PG).

I dunno. When I would be in here complaining about him all the time there'd always be at least one or two people coming to defend his decision making.

There's some people who support him just because of his COTY award, but I think they'll eventually come around.

Dunno where Nash and Gasol have egos that need to be kept in check? Only ego problem should be D12 and if he can accept not being #1 choice on offense but i'm sure Nash will know how to keep him happy.

Nash/Blake will keep him happy on defense too, by letting him inflate his bpg stats when the point guards of the west blow by them.

Also, Perkins going to OKC suddenly seems much more worthwhile with their main west coast rivals being so big men centric. Spurs, Memphis, Lakers, Nuggets. Only the Clippers are missing a premier scoring center, but im sure Perkins will be on Griffin to foul him 6 times in that match-up. It would make sense for OKC to cut Ibaka (let him walk) resign Harden to just under max (or perhaps a performance bonus) and run their lineup of Westbrook, Thabo, Durant, Collison? Perkins, with Harden off the bench for as long as they can.

The thing is even if Dwight isn't technically the number one scoring option he's going to get an insane amount of points off of put backs because he has Pau Gasol to help him out.

I mean honestly I think Pau Gasol is really a big key here. How does HE accept being put even further back into the offensive rotation than he was before, now that we have a point guard who can be relied on to hit open shots.

Dwight Howard I think is going to perform amazingly on the Lakers simply because the Lakers are a team that will punish the hell out of any team that just focuses their defense on Howard, something the Magic were only able to do with a great degree of inconsistency. Nash and Bryant offensively are just guys that you will never leave open if you can avoid it.

So even if the first three offensive options are shut down in Bryant Nash and Howard, Gasol is the 4th option. How in the world do you guard that?

Zone is out, Nash will pick it apart and Pau Gasol isn't going to lose his great interior passing ability overnight.

Opposing teams best option really is to do what they were doing to the Lakers in the past and pack the paint and deny entry passes to the post, but you're still now leaving open Nash where before that open guard would have been Fisher, Sessions or Blake, and none of those three are even remotely comparable to Nash in terms of sheer shooting ability.

No. This team has way too many offensive weapons I don't see HOW their offense can stagnate now not with the kind of line up they'll field.

The real make or break for the Lakers this year is as Ace said, their back court defense (as well of course their bench production). Nash is a defensive liability and Kobe Bryant isn't getting any faster. D12 and Metta World Peace are still premier defensive players but that's only 2/5 guys.

If they can overcome their defensive deficiencies I just don't see how any team can match the kind of firepower they have now.

I don't think scoring is what okc or the spurs are worried about.

plus, as far as I've heard, pau will be strerched further from the rim this year as the lakers implement the princeton offense.

Well I'm in agreement that Pau Gasol is the key here. I think if they lost him a Kobe/Dwight/Nash trio would be a fucking disaster. Really interested to see how it works with Pau there because I kind of view him as an Andre Iguodala type of player: Not your best bet as a #1 kind of guy, but if he is a #2 or worse he will wreck havoc doing all the other things besides scoring.

Ehhh. His game is more scoring reliant than Iggy considering his mediocre defense (good help defender, bad at defending his position man to man).

edit -- don't get me wrong I'm not saying he isn't an absolutely elite #2 player to have on a team, I just think it's a bit weird comparing him to Iggy considering Iggy is like the ultimate guts and glue guy.
