Lol Magic. Fuck me.
The mystery picks can't be any good. The Lakers will never be a lotto team; Denver won't be for the forseeable future with Iggy on board (I love this trade for Denver...); and Philly will maybe be a low lotto team at best (but likely a Playoff team).
So if I'm reading this right the Magic trade Dwight for some late first rounders, Vucevic, Afflalo and Harrington?
FML if you're a Magic fan. Just let him walk if that's really the best you can do.
Can someone tell me how this is a better package than the Houston option (for the Magic that is)?

No way Stern can nix this deal. It's actually a good deal for every team bar Orlando (and in a big way).
Stern was in a unique position as owner of the Hornets where he could actually do something but the NBA owns none of these teams involved and must let them act on their own accord--no matter how bad the perceived deal might be. If he were to to veto this deal it would open the NBA to all manner of lawsuits I imagine (ironically, the Lakers could probably invoke antitrust laws on this one).

Imagine if Nash and Kobe weren't geriatric...

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA Final Nets offer Orlando rejected in July: Lopez, Humphries (1 year, $9.6M), Brooks, 4 unprotected No. 1’s for Howard, JRich, Duhon, Clark.
I'm not going to bother watching basketball this season. Will definitely catch a few Warriors games, but honestly, fuck the NBA.

Howard's definitely an improvement if only because the Lakers need a real defensive presence in the paint, but they're not THAT much better effectively trading Bynum for Howard, especially considering his likelihood of resigning (I think Bynum would've been a much easier resign).
|
If they get to the WCFs, he'll resign.
Also, wft. The salary cap is under $60 million. The Lakers salary is over $90 million. So much for paritiy.

don't think stern will veto this, i'm 99% confident. he got quite a bad backlash last time, but more importantly he has nothing to do with the franchises involved.
fuckin lakers man. it's like they're the only team in the league without a salary cap, you know? it's like the fuckin yankees
also, that deal above... there's no way the magic rejected that and accepted this one. i don't believe it.

That's not a great deal either for the Magic though. All those players are average at best and the picks would have likely been pretty medicore given how good the Nets would be with Howard and Deron on board.
I think Houston had a pretty decent offer on the table but who knows what happened with that. I'd love to hear Hennigan's thoughts on why he thinks this trade is better than the Nets and or Houston deals.

iunno though, projected standings (yeah they don't really mean shit) suggest that 76ers nuggets are gonna do quite well. magic are gonna crash probably but 4 unprotected first round picks seems more enticing.
i really wanna see that houston deal lol. kept hearing commentators say that they were literally giving away their team for dwight howard

Two theories. 1) He thought he could turn a deal that was actually good and waited and waited until everyone got tired of it. 2) He overvalues those draft picks. I made a rant about that earlier in the thread. :p

Thats a pretty scary team for the Lakers. I dont know how they managed this one but they did

Lmfao wow
the 50 fans left at orlando games are gonna boo howard hard

If you're going to go for picks though you've surely got to go for high ones?! Philly, Denver and the Lakers don't look like teams that are going to be yielding high lotto picks within even the next 5 years. Doesn't make sense to me.
What makes it worse is they're taking on more salary? Bringing in Vucevic/Afflalo/Harrington is ~$61 mill in salary and they're only sending out like ~$38 mill in D12 and JRich? They should at least be sending out Turkeyglue if they're really going to do this.

This was probably the best the Magic could do without trying to tie on their shitty contracts w/ Howard. Everyone knows the Magic can't keep Howard, the Magic know they can't keep Howard, so every team in the league has the upper hand in bargaining with the Magic. Personally, I don't think Orlando could've done much better, as there aren't that many contracts taht are similar to Howard's in the first place. Orlando is in the middle of some major reconstruction anyways, so while they didn't get the best of everything, they almost got everything they wanted (they still have some shit contracts like turgolu and jj redick just to name a few).
That being said, as a Laker fan, all worship the Mitchgod.

I seriously don't know how the NBA salary cap works. The Laker's cap figure next year if this goes down is well above 98 million. How does that even fucking work?
I mean I know you can always make trades but man this is ridiculous. They're bordering on 2 teams worth of salary.

I love how the Lakers keep the rape train going. Orlando is as usual, stupid.
Denver is going to be a MONSTER team next year, or at least has the potential to be.

Haha, yeah. Philly, Denver and LA are actually all better from this trade, but Orlando is getting so monumentally shit on it beggars belief as to why they'd okay it...
Maybe they'll "miraculously" win the lotto in a couple of year ala the Hornets or Chicago.
