Anyone else feel like the shorter 3pt line in international basketball lowers the skill cap amongst players and tends to give less talented players a better shot?
Kind of how people felt like SC2 lowered the skill cap as compared to SC/BW due to stuff like auto-mining and MBS by reducing the amount of ways top-tier players could distinguish themselves from the rest of the crowd, I feel like the shorter arc takes away one of the key skills for NBA players to distinguish themselves, i.e. being able to score from behind the NBA arc.
I see all these players on other teams who manage to stay on the floor by being able to make international 3's and can't help but think that it'd be totally different if they were forced to shoot NBA 3's instead. In the NBA, their efficient international 3 becomes the most inefficient shot in the game, i.e. the long 2.
Thoughts?

Meh, US also makes more 3s in that sense. The 3 pt % shooting for the US team has been pretty ridiculous overall, and the amount of attempts is also ridiculously high. Since the US has like 4 legitimate 3 pt shooters on the floor at all times I think it benefits the US more.

While the US team has been one of the better teams at shooting 3's in the Olympics, they're hardly unique in having 4 or even 5 guys on the floor who can shoot 3's at any given time. The other countries have plenty of "bigs" who can knock down international 3's, so I don't see the US as being unique in that regard.

Need a 4 point line. Until then, KD will just have to settle for 60%.

Lakers getting desperate imo. The Magic want the teams to give them their best stuff and this is a pretty fair trade for them. Lakers shouldn't pull the trigger on this. They should keep working at it, I know they can get a deal that is more in their favor.

I can't imagine the Lakers giving up boh Gasol and Bynum, particularly if they're getting back D12 and Harrington in return. Obviously, I hope that they manage to hold onto one or the other.

That's a trade I can live with. I think the Lakers should do it if they can. As good as Bynum and Gasol are, you wouldn't baulk at gaining a top 5 level talent for fear of losing them. Jamison could easily slot into PF next to Howard with Hill off the bench as the backup big. It would also save the Lakers a ton of salary.

Howard traded to Lakers. And unless I misread, Lakers keep Gasol.

howard gasol artest kobe nash jamison hill

Looks like lakers will be keeping Pau

gasol stays with the lakers

I'm holding my breath a little bit on this one.
Did Mitch really manage to keep Gasol and get Howard? If so this is a pretty crazy trade. One worth being excited over.

I was very afraid that Pau would've been dealt as a part of this trade. But as it stands, the Lakers have a great chance to challenge the Thunder for the west.

lmao the Magic are stupid

Well, I certainly like this new deal for the Lakers.

i'm wondering what the details of the protected pick is
because essentially lakers traded away a protected pick and bynum to get dwight howard, lol
i can't really believe this offseason tbh

Bynum and a future pick is all they give up while retaining Gasol.
Jesus christ the Lakers make it look so easy.
