Also you gotta remember since vile never intended to play in tournies he could use all the addons he wanted to basically play for him, which none of the tournament players did because they played without addons because that's how you had to play in tournaments. But yeah comparing a ladder player to a tournament player (say, vileroze to orangemarmalade) is dumb, that's like comparing deezer or destiny (ladder players) to idra or huk (tournament players)

Sorry for the depressing post.
I wouldn't say this entirely. Progaming does change scenes quickly tho, but its more about genre than game.
Starcraft has been huge for a while, and the transition between BW and SC2 isn't huge. It would probably behoove the RTS community to just all play SC2 (BW vs SC2 aside, just as a spectator sports SC2 is easier to watch, prettier, etc) from a viewership standpoint.
MOBAs are the hot new thing, and I doubt that, if LoL faill, top LoL pros will have any difficulty changing games to whatever new MOBA is hot.
Really, FPS is the most fragmented community (because console gamers are so cute. They think they're people!)

Careful about Destiny, he beat MaNa and HasuObs in IPL TAC2

Destiny is still just a ladder player because he does almost nothing but ladder and stream, rarely goes to tournaments, and when he does doesn't get very far. But that's not really what this is about, if you're a big fan of destiny and want to pretend like he's more than a ladder player, then you can pretend I used someone else as an example instead of him, like say combatex or some other ladder player.

Not anymore, but the ones that played at MLG were I guess technically "pro." But like I said, the only ones who were even remotely good enough to actually be called pro were orangemarmalade and numberone. Both were korean, and I'd love to see if they're doing something in SC2.

What about Raziel , you know the RTCW player from Dignitas ? I heard he played some CSS ( made a movie , iratus2 I think) but nothing more serious ...

I wonder if CS:GO will pull any old heroes out of the woodwork.
I'd love another NoA vs SK rivalry

How can people forget Laintime? That guy was so ahead of his time.

Were seeing it now with League of Legends and all the pros of LoL will be left in the dark with their hands in the air once the collective drones move onto the next big "esport" game. Blizzard killed competitive WoW with rated battlegrounds and "balancing" for them. They for the most part were just sick of trying to balance a game that could not be balanced, there are just too many abilities. Furthermore the only reason WoW ever had a competitive scene with sponsors and a place at MLG was because there were 12 million people playing it. Valve and Riot's games only have competitive modes, and WoW's was an experiment that failed. If I remember correctly they even said that "arena was a mistake" right before they killed it in Cata.
It wasn't just about the abilities.
Blizzard attempted to balance PvE/PvP at the same time. With the way the mechanics work for both of those things that is pretty much impossible if you're talking about simple abilities. However, with nine different classes, each with 20 some odd abilities to balance, and a full gear loadout to balance...yea it's never happening.
If WoW had just stayed the way it was, and Blizzard had made a new game based on WoW for PvP and balanced around it then you would have had a pretty strong competitive game. WoW PvP is pretty comnplex at the high levels, it was just impossible to balance properly.

A lot of European Counter-Strike players are still playing, but North America is pretty much dead. I haven't followed the CS 1.6 scene since 2009, but I do check HLTV.org now and then. I think CS:GO will revive the North American scene a little since retired players such as method, Volcano, etc have been playing it. Valve sent out a lot of beta keys for North American CS 1.6 and CS:S former and current pros. Last time I checked (like others have mentioned), SpawN and HeatoN are working for Zowie and the EC1, EC2, and AM were designed and tested by them. I think moto of Team 3D worked (or still working) at QPAD, but there hasn't been any information on him. I know that method and Volcano plays CS 1.6 and CS:S now and then, but it seems that they are just playing a mix of games for fun or semi-competitively.

I haven't talked to Orangemarmalade for quite sometime, I know at MLG Raleigh 2010 he was being extremely modest about his SC2 skill. I am pretty sure he was really good. As far as I know he stopped playing video games seriously and is/was just focusing on school.

How do you guys define "progamer"? I wasn't aware that the scene in WoW and LoL had enough money going into it for players to play those games full time. o.O

If you watch his last video from wrath, it wasn't all that impressive. He plays well, by all means, but not even top notch sadly.
