And since they don't attack your monsters, the whole field is full and you can't even send them to the grave. The Destiny Defender was the most annoying since I had 5 fusions, yep, 5 fusions, yet I still couldn't kill it. Then a second one came out. Worst part was I had 2 more cards that could have made me win, the two super polys that I had left out of 10 cards left which was annoying. I don't think that anyone watching the duel could possibly know how hard it was unless they tried themselves. So I found out I couldn't destroy my own monster and since my oppenent never attack, I was basicly waiting for my end. And I could have won if it wasn't for one little rule. Now I just don't feeling like playing anymore
What are you running because of the cards I was having difficulty with that certainly wasn't one (zemn, hunter, stardust). I mean what about compul evac device, dark hole, brionac, stardust, smashing ground etc?? I wouldn't feel demoralised everybody missplays but I wouldn't describe it being one little rule that you can't destroy your own monsters randomly!

Just read top decklists and learn what they all do.
I'll think about writing a general YGO guide that explains some concepts like card advantage, +/-, utilizing traps , and how to predict your opponent and stuff like that
the best way to get better is to think ahead like you do in chess. a lot of new players always just play their strongest combos but you don't need to go crazy every turn cause if you blow everything to summon your big monster and they negate it, you have nothing left to play with

a lot can be learned just from simple sayings like: Card advantage is only meaningful if you can convert it into something that matters. Possiblity is more important than probability. Hold your removal until there is a reason to use it. Big dudes are only as big as the protection backing them. (Just killing them is the best form of protection.)

Their seems to be a lot of lack of content in terms of advanced deck building and such in yugioh still, as was when I stopped playing a long time ago. Sad about that though,I loved the game. Just when I was able to compare it to stuff like magic where it has really awesome video and written content (in terms of even books and protour vods and such) yugioh was so much smaller.
Has this changed or is it still very similar and not a lot of content is produced on the written or visual side of things?
One thing I did like in comparsion to magic was that I could use cards of any age, wether they be from the first set or from the most recent one. I could use them all. In magic I couldn't, so it was a big money sink if you took breaks often like I did haha.

Return of the Duelist is on DN now
YGO is just as bad as magic in a lot of regards because even though old cards are legal they are unplayable due to being terrible
deck building is pretty straightforward in yugioh and a lot of people run the exact same cards, most of the differences come in what we call "tech" and in sideboards. tech is a card that is used to counter other decks or isn't part of a decks main engine and while there are cards that you see a lot (starlight road, effect veiler, etc.) you can still surprise people with your choices.
i hate playing ygo right now because decks are just too fast. hieratic for instance is so anti-fun it's unbelievable. each turn takes 5+ minutes and it's rare they can't set the field up with at least 3-4 of their big summons every single turn

Every other ranked match I see is either Dino-Rabbit or Hieratics >.< The occasional Heroes, Dark World, blah blah blah, but I'm sick of seeing so many Rabbits. You would think people would use DN as a creative outlet, and not as a way to show off how lucky you are at drawing Rabbit first turn with 4 backrow or something like that, but apparently, people care too much about rating to give fun matches :/
|
If you're just looking for fun games, you should only play against friends, or unrated games. The alternative is playing a deck built to beat those kinds of decks (heroes has a great rabbit matchup, TG has a great hero matchup, dark world has a great hero/TG matchup)

i hate hieratic decks the most

I was waondering if you folks knew of any good resources in terms of solid video and witten content other than whats on the main page. Like high quality youtube videos and articles. Like high level written, not like a lot of whats out there.
Sort of like a Starcity of yugioh. or do not many of those sites exist in yugioh?
also do people stream yugioh like people stream magic, or is that sort of stuff not happening?

Few questions. I basically have no idea about Synchro monsters and XYZ monsters. I read about them in the OP but I still don't have a good idea of how they work in regular gameplay. When would you normally summon one? How many tuners should you have in your deck? Etc, etc.
Also, how do you find matches?

synchro monsters/xyz monsters are usually summoned for their effects, although many do have high attack power as well (stardust, scrap dragon, utopia, ect..) If your deck is dependent on synchros for your main power, then I fell like a little under half of your monsters need to be tuners unless you have great searching power. If you find that alot of the monsters in your deck are the same level, and are easy to bring out, then xyz's are probably the way to go.
To find matches go to the Duel room. Advanced unrated are normal, unranked games, and Advanced Rated are the normal ranked games. Traditional means that the duels do not follow the banlist, and all cards are allowed. To join a game simply click on the name of the person hosting it, and they will accept you.

The most common meme in yugioh is "lol pojo" generally used to express that no one outside of pojo could possible be so stupid as to post what was just written. http://duelistgroundz.com/ or http://yugioh.tcgplayer.com/ are going to give you on average much better results for everything.
