How are the Bulls not one of the best teams in the NBA? http://www.nba.com/reportcard/midseason/2011/bulls/index.html 1st overall on defense. And you guys criticized Rose for his "mediocre" defense when he is in fact, an outstanding perimeter defender who averages almost a block on a shooter every game. Not to mention the fact that the bulls played the first month without boozer, followed by the absence of Noah who would've made the allstar this season. And yet, you're saying he's not the #1 PG in the NBA. He practically carried his team through his own will and they are currently 3rd in the East, 1 game behind the Heat. But the truth is being told. Just give up man, face the facts. He's a superstar, a 1st-tier PG, and currently the top spot in the MVP race. Cheers

But shouldn't he be averaging at least 10 assists per game (10th in the league?) Everyone picked Durant, but Durant hasn't been blowing everyone out of the water like expected, so it's like they asked, who else is doing really well on a good team? Don't want James, because he has good teammates/the heat aren't consistent enough, can't pick san antonio because they're not sexy enough and share the ball, similar with boston, can't pick lakers because they faltered, can't pick dirk because he got injured, can't pick howard because he hasn't improved enough that we'd be admitting we're just giving it out in a weaker year.

I think we've all said he's definitely good and has immense talent. But some of us don't think he is an MVP level player or even the best Point Guard in the game. Pardon us for not saying he isn't Michael Jordan ![]() Secondly the Bulls are one of the top defenses and a lot of that has to do with the system - not Rose. He's better than last year but make no mistake he is NOT All-NBA level defense. They aren't better than Boston, Miami, Dallas, LA, or San Antonio in a BO7 yet. They've got a really good shot and I wouldn't be surprised if they beat any of them - but to say they've got are ELITE is stretching it. ELITE is last year's Boston team going through Wade, Lebron, Dwight, and Kobe. Do you think Chicago could accomplish that? Also remember Chicago has a very cake schedule right now so their D-Ranking is going to be inflated. Are they top 5? Definitely. #1? Doubt it. Funny how you also say he's the #1 PG in the NBA for carrying his team as if Chris Paul hasn't done that, D-Will hasn't done that and Rondo in the playoffs without KG didn't do it. Stop being biased. It's also amazing that he showed a page with Rose's stats and somehow ignored the alarming shooting % you'd expect from an MVP candidate. It's not like Rose is BLOWING everyone away. More like circumstances make it a year where somebody has to get hyped.

They were actually getting things going in the right direction. I do doubt they could go more to Blake Griffin than they already do though lol. I guess we will see more of the rookie Aminu maybe or Randy Foye (oh boy). Gordon seriously had a chance at MIP, but will probably easily go to Love now.

But their recent schedule has been pretty fortunate due to the timing of their injuries. Boston(1), Miami(1), and Dallas (1) were the only tough games they had for the month so far. The game vs Orlando on Friday is the other. Likewise their December schedule wasn't too hard either. But the schedule they for the first 2 months was clearly one of the toughest in the league. Aminu is going to have a shot at having a mini-breakout which will be good for the Clippers in the long run. No idea what the hell happened to Randy Foye's career. He used to be serviceable now he doesn't seem like the same guy that was a starter in Minnesota on a decent career arc.

While Individual Defensive Rating is a flawed stat with a lot of noise, Rose leads the league in it, and his defense is excellent when watching him play defense as well. He nearly always funnels the offensive player properly to the help defender, is greatly improved in pick and roll defense, and has always been a solid isolation defender. He's also probably the best shot blocking point guard in the league. I honestly can't name any point guards that are substantially better than Rose defensively, so how does that not constitute All-NBA level defense?

All-NBA level defense means he's a top 4 (or close to it) defensive guard in the NBA. Since he's not a top 4 defensive guard in the NBA, and is not really a threat to get to there this year, he's not an All-NBA level defender. Also, Rondo's defensive rating is better than Rose's.

I don't want you to think that I'm saying Rose sucks as a defender. However when talking top tier PG defenders he hasn't hit that point - yet. I think under a defensive oriented coach like Tibs that seems to know how to coach defense he will hit that level. I also think that it is amazing Rose blocks so many shots for a Point Guard. That IS damn amazing. I think once he ups his steal rate and awareness (ok I know a few of you cringed) he'll hit that Rondo/Chris Paul level of all around havoc. But make no mistake that those 2 are currently the gold standard for all around PG defense (if looking at steals) - by a mile. Also this is an interesting article that paints Rose in a very good light defensively among the other Top 5 Point Guards. Really good read. Point Guard Defensive Ratings ETA: Why is no one speaking of the BEATING the Lakers put on the Jazz tonight?

However if Haywood said that then it's pretty stupid of him. I'd think a "good" hard foul is one where you foul the guy hard but not when he is like spinning through the air where he could seriously end up hurt. The NBA speaking out on that though would probably be an issue as they really don't want to look like they are "softening" up the game. Mr.Stern is a control freak when it comes to marketing the league. Maybe there is more going on here though. With Andre Miller's actions against Blake, this and I think that recent spat with the Lakers (iirc) he probably isn't a well liked person to some teams.

And then there's the thing where he sticks his arm out on people's backs whenever he's boxed out on a rebound ![]()

As a raptors fan, I've seen Calderon outplay Rose in certain games. Look up the boxscores in those games. Jose Calderon should not be able to shred an All-NBA defender, much less defend a top tier PG.
