Lots of dying, though I expect that's the case for everyone. You will want one as you get farther in especially if you're doing the dark world.
I actually beat the whole game 106% everything with a keyboard. Then I got a PS2 controller to USB converter, so I could use my PS2 controller. I will say that the gamepad feels betters, but isn't necessary in order to beat the game. Would it have made it easier to beat? Probably. Plus now that I can use my gamepad, there's so many more games I'm enjoying on the PC, like any other 2d platformers, (VVVVVV, Spelunky, etc.). Plus it's only like $6 for the converter.

OK, after a night of solid effort I managed to go from ~35 bandages to 51 bandages. 4,973 total deaths, 58% total progress, 84% light world, 38% dark world.
Edit: Put some more time, so 1 day later my stats are now:
62 bandages, 5,920 total deaths, 65% total progress, 84% light world, 47% dark world.

Can you tell me where you found a converter for only 6 dollars? Most of the ones i looked up went for up to 30$.

A quick update since I bought the game, I'm at like 1200 death, 55 bandage and dark world 4. I'm going for 100% this time !!
I'd like to hear about the guy who wanted to 100% in one sitting lol !
While playing yesterday I encountered a bug several times that was unknown to me before ; sometimes while you quickly jump on the side of a small wall it acts like you've touched the ground and it makes you slide up. It is pretty annoying and never happen to me before, don't know why it started but it granted me a few death...

How did the 100% in one sitting go?
After hearing that Super Meat Boy probably won't be out on Wii I bought it for Xbox today. I also have it on Steam, but I prefer it to be a console game.

I'm gonna have to say these are some of the most frustrating controls I've ever had the displeasure to experience. Fuck, why won't this bitch MOVE RIGHT WHEN I HAVE THE RIGHT KEY HELD DOWN ALREADY?! Boss fight took forever to beat because this bastard piece of meat decided to just stand there instead of running right -_-
otherwise pretty fun, but god damn these controls are pissing me off.

Sounds like that's not normal behaviour. Is the game running properly, at a normal framerate, without input delay?

Lol at "now it should be super easy". If by "easy" you mean "brute force trial-and-error your way through this #%&(@%" then yes. + Show Spoiler +Coming from someone who is currently acing all the cotton alley dark world levels.
Figuring out how to get through those levels isn't the challenging part. It's your regular walljump while avoiding the spikes deal, much like many other stages in the game. It's not dying while doing so that is a bit of a snag. I only got the first stage after 40 minutes of buttonmashing.
Also, there is a much easier way of doing the first drop+climb in stage 1. It's more reliable for getting good height, which makes the rest of the jumps a lot easier, so you won't have to do those tiny doublejumps to gain some extra height.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/rgi5b.jpg) To clarify, this is the first thing you have to do in stage 1 of The Kid warpzone. You'll be wanting a sort of 'half jump' for jump #1 and a full as-high-as-you-can jump for #2. This so that you can avoid the vertical spikes during #1 while getting maximum height for #2 - if you, you can just easily jump through the rest.
Final boss battle spoiler: + Show Spoiler +As a side note, this little move is also a needed skill to get many bandages with MB, as well as make the battle with Fetus a lot easier by allowing you to bypass the forward sawblades and do everything at your own pace.

One of the Indie packs I bought during the last holiday sale included VVVVV, which had recommendations and high ratings everywhere. So I played it, expecting something awesome after all the praise - and all I got was a pretty bland platformer. Jumping, avoiding, some puzzle-esque things ... that's it. Sure, that can be fun - for about 5 minutes.
I'm not saying that platformers can't be fun, I've enjoyed playing them every now and then, but especially SMB is hailed as if it revolutionized PC gaming when all you do is jump around and avoid death traps.
I'm quoting myself here, because I stand corrected.
I bought SMB on the current Steam encore sale - and I like it! It's much, much better than VVVVVV, the difficulty is a real challenge and every little bit of jump timing improvement makes me feel like I accomplished something.

Just got the game and it's hard as fuck LOL. One thing I noticed is that I have this annoying delay with my actions; it's like playing a game with a latency of 1000ms. I enabled Vsync and it seems to be reduced but there is still noticeable delay: is this normal?
Also is there any way to enable vsync in-game? Because Windows 7 + Starcraft = no vsync and switching back and forth would be kind of annoying (although not detrimental).

have had the game for about 6 days i think, 221 levels done been playing the hell out of it lol... perfect difficulty and I must say I am so glad I have a USB controller, lol!
Edit: It took 750 lives and 2 hours, but I unlocked the kid.

If anything, vsync should increase the latency, not reduce it. Sounds mostly like a graphics bug. Have you tried running in windowed mode, yet still at full resolution? I recall some people having success with that.

I love this game, I have ordered a USB 360 controller solely for it. Games are too easy these days

Check statistics in the start screen. It shows total deaths so he probably checked how many deaths before and after the stage. As for how long it was probably an estimate.

For any of you guys having lag - if you have an Nvidia Optimus setup, forcing SMB to use the discrete graphics should resolve the lag problem. Integrated cards kinda suck for it

This is also what I did, once I figured out how to do it I had a nearly 100% success rate for getting to the next "resting spot".

I enjoyed the game to a certain extent. I tried unlocking the guy with the double jump (forgot his name). That level is starting to piss me off pretty bad. The 3rd part of that level where you have to jump up the angled wall then fall down the spiked column is driving me nuts. Any tips?
Also wish I could try a controller before buying one to see if it makes enough of a difference.
