I really like the levels, and I enjoy platformers...But it's so god damn unresponsive when I hit the keys that I have to rage quit after five minutes of playing. 95% of the times I've died have been from a refusal for the game to recognize I've hit the space bar (my keyboard is fine in other games).
I know what you mean, but in my experience it's just because the timing is "strange" (not intuitive), not because the game doesn't register

I don't get that at all. I played around in the first level for 10 seconds and then I had the controls down pat, and have never had any response issues.

Sorry for the help question in this thread.
SuperMeatBoy just won't run open .exe game = crash run through steam = steam crash This even happened when I tried to pirate it... Exact same files also people were saying the game was working for them.
(I bought it in recent steam sales)

I second this, SMB is notorious for having high quality controls, this is 100% a problem on your end.

Great game, got it yesterday for $3.75 like I'm sure most people did. I love how it basically tells you to use a gamepad or else, but I've been getting A+ on all the levels so far without much trouble.
Lots of dying, though I expect that's the case for everyone.

One of these games I bought during the last holiday sale included StarCraft 2, which had recommendations and high ratings everywhere. So I played it, expecting something awesome after all the praise - and all I got was a pretty bland RTS. Mining, scouting, some micro things ... that's it. Sure, that can be fun - for about 5 minutes.
I'm not saying that rts can't be fun, I've enjoyed playing them every now and then, but especially StarCraft 2 is hailed as if it revolutionized PC gaming when all you do is click around and kill your enemy before they do to you.
Starcraft II has an interesting and deep gameplay system. Super Meat Boy is designed to be the antithesis of a deep gameplay system, instead using a substantial difficulty level to make sure the player can grasp its shallow platforming mechanics. Conceptually, Super Meat Boy does absolutely nothing that Mario or Sonic hasn't done in the last twenty-plus years. It just makes those elements really, really hard.

And conceptually SC2 didn't do anything that SC1 or other RTS didn't already do. So I'm not sure the point you are trying to convey here, since it applies to your precious SC2 just as much as it does to Super Meat Boy.

Super Meat Boy has several things that Mario or Sonic doesn't. The levels are broken up into small pieces to minimize frustration. The replay system is, as far as I know, unique to the genre. There are also other things, but I feel these two are enough to prove to myself you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm not one of the fanboys on the forum. I would have liked to seen Starcraft II be a lot less like the original game, but that's not what happened. The difference is that Starcraft II took a very deep game model and didn't do anything interesting with it. Super Meat Boy regressed in comparison to the rest of the genre and didn't bother to do anything interesting with it.

Unless you're prepared to argue that bite-sizing the level design allows individual gameplay mechanics a better chance to become memorable or the replay function makes the game deeper.

I had the same problems. Then after ~30mins I moved my lazy ass to get my ps3 controller. Suddenly everything is working perfect. My jump timing is now working when earlier I missed jumps. All because of the keyboard -> controller switch. Seems keyboard input is not that precise :/ Maybe you can borrow a controller from a friend?
Edit: Since I was asked via PM how to use a PS3 controller on a PC (and to prevent further PMs): guide

You will want one as you get farther in especially if you're doing the dark world.

SC2 and SMB is all I've been playing.
I feel like there are levels that I'm just never going to beat. I'm working on the dark worlds (on Salt Factory now) and collecting bandages. So much value in this game though, and while I love the game's music I've started to really enjoy putting on my own music in the background.
There's something really calming about trying a level over and over and getting a little further each time. I haven't raged at this game at all, I enjoy each and every death. I think I'm a masochist.
