That being said there are still core problems with the game,
Examples? and are these "objective" core problems or just personal issues some people have?

For me the most glaring one is the fact that Blizz somehow managed to make obtaining best gear way too easy and way too grindy at the same time. As it is now, one does not wonder whether a certain legendary will drop for them , but when it will drop - which removes any thrill of dropping a legendary item, since usually it turns out to be either useless or you already have like three of them in your stash and you don't care anymore unless it's a ancient one with perfect rolls for your build. The free seasonal sets make it even dumber, further diluting the worth of legendary and set items, to the point where they feel like any other piece of gear instead of those really unique and powerful items everyone wants to have.

Agreed. I feel other than playing on the first page of difficulties, only non casual builds can be effective and fun. The rest feels predetermined by the set bonuses :/

I think there's a genuine problem with the way the game has MMO itemization, and how weapon damage matters way too much. I think the ilvl progression in Diablo is also incredibly flawed. I also think that set bonuses with flat damage increases are a bandaid to the problem of the lack of skill trees. I think thats why they give everyone a free set when they get to level 70, the game isnt fun without it. I like Diablo 3, but there's a lot of core problems at the center of it. They did a good job at putting bandaids on it, however I'd rather them see make something new where they dont have those awful problems that linger around.

The game has core problems, it was filled with them at release, yet little by little they made it a pretty good game, and competent one If they took what good they did, forget the awful i can see the next diablo (sequel or expansion) a super good game

Blizz really dropped the ball with diablo 3 imo and I certainly won't be hyped for D4 before it's released. I think thats the problem. The original D3 team WAS a completely new team than the original D2 team. I have good faith that Wyatt Cheng could do something around. D3 now just has a ton of problems that simply cant be fixed. They need to start over from scratch.

I don't mind d3 but I missed most of the initial fuss, bought the expansion and then promptly broke my computer. Finished hardcore with a witch doctor end of last season without realising I had only 1 week more to play the character (I am with the times, clearly). Then I tried to play this season thinking there'd be a lot more activity (as there generally is start of season(s))... There doesn't seem to be, maybe its just because I have haven't figured out which mode people "start a fresh" on. I thought it would've been max hmmm.. I'd love either an entire revamp of d3; adding skill trees, etc. Or give us a real sequel to d2 without the bots!. Although (contraversially I am a fan of map hack >_<;: unless running extreme fcr "x"char- no to hdins, yes to sorcs/druids!). Honestly I would be thrilled to see a random true D2 (2nd, hd?) expansion filled with everything the community wants but then I doubt that that'd be very profitable...

Diablo 3 started up with glaring flaws and the redesign ended up inflating the numbers greatly. I would definitely prefer that they start from scratch instead of putting more bandaids to the current system. There are plenty of problems that simply can't be fixed. Still, it is an enjoyable game that has sold well. The people who love it and play it just don't post that much. It is similar in a way to what happened to the Civ series. The hardcore Civ 4 fanatics still wouldn't shut up about 1UPT. Civ 5 had a rocky launch but it eventually sold well and it was still one of the most played games in Steam leading up to Civ 6's release. The expansions fixed a lot of what was wrong with the game (Sound familiar?). Civ 6 fixed some of the unfixable stuff in Civ 5 and revamped a bunch of stuff. However, go to civfanatics and half the threads on the Civ 6 subforum are still Civ 4 people whining about 1UPT. They make it seem more controversial than it really is.

Pretty much like that. There is no dance versus the enemies either... Diablo 3 just felt really really bad.. Even with the expansion, SURE make it easy but atleast make you use brain at higher difficulties... Everyone remembered the items at start? HOLY CRIST, they got PAID for making up stuff like that? Then they relese the expansionen, promised LOTS OF GOOD THINGS "WHEN AN ITEM DROPS; YOU WILL BE EXCITED". Sure or not, stop talk out of your hat blizzard. Anyway, the items are just boring as well.. Cant believe they relesed the game like this. Iam talking about the expansion as well. If they make diablo 4, yes i will be excited BUT THEY NEED TO CHANGE their philosophy heavily which i doubt they will but i still have hope. EDIT: they didnt even release a proper pvp mode in diablo3.

Doesn't matter if you play Torment 1 or 10, it's just exactly the same game with higher numbers. And not sure what Foxxan's on about, the actual combat always feels great in any Blizzard game. The characters control so smoothly, like they're an extension of my arm.

But it was certainly gutted after they shitcanned the Blizz North version of D3. BTW, all this talk about D4 being an MMO reminds me of the launch rumors that D3 was supposed to be an MMO (way, way back when runes were items and talked about like a currency between players for example).

I tried googling a bit for number of active players in D3 and poe, but couldnt find any current and reliable sources... In the end I just went to twitch to see the number of current viewers... Not sure how that is affected by time zones, seasons, number of players vs number of viewers, etc, but it's the best I could come up with. D3 has around 500 viewers right now, poe has like 1400. D2? 1600. :o

It's biggest competition was an indie studio that possibly has more players then d3 does now. Diablo is absolutely dying, you're putting your head in the sand to think otherwise. i love this "dying" thing. I use less emo terminology. Diablo may well be declining. It is in the nature of the retail-box copy revenue model and its development cycle. The majority of D3's 30+ million sales occurred more than 8 months after the game came out. Keeping in mind its sold as a retail full box copy that is an amazing long term success. If you look at how slowly Diablo3 and its expansion are decreasing in price relative to every other retail box game that came out in 2012 and March 2014 that is another indicator of how strong the game is. Blizzard has done such a horrible job with D3, SC2, and Hearthstone that Overwatch became Blizzard's fastest IP to hit 20 million paid. all these games are of course "fundamentally flawed". Blizzard has become a horrible, terrible, awful company since it merged with ATVI in 2008/2009. Here we are 7+ years later and last quarter Blizzard made an abysmal $737 million in revenue in Q3. Get ready for some layoffs. Blizzard is going under! Because that's what happens... once you start making lousy games 7 years earlier due to a crappy merger with a megacorporation you end up destroying every tentpole franchise you own and set record breaking sky high revenues 7 years later as a result of your horrible reputation. Mass layoffs are imminent. These job ads for Diablo developers are as fake as all those people claiming the earth is a globe. Hearthstone, D3, and SC2 are such horrible games I went right out and bought Overwatch on day 1 and i bought the BlizzCon virtual ticket.
