I still think the golden ticket is if someone like Hyorin or Ailee did a US promotion with some hot shot producer.

I'll put five kpawp dollars on Sunny Hill being the group that manages to make headway in the Western market. Won't be from plying their derivative image and musical style to the source, won't be from successfully tackling the language barrier, nor will it be from marketing themselves to the Pro Wrestling market. Sunny Hill will establish the foothold simply by the sheer force of tactically applied Kota flow. Mark it, two years from now, Sunny Hill will be hitting the mall circuit

I'm a Vip and a pretty big 2ne1 fan, but seriously hope that YG and all the other agencies from groups I care about, learnt from the past and won't go into an all-in American Advancement. Boa/Se7en/Wondergirls have shown that spending only 1 year America completely kills your popularity in korea and even Japan. CCM probably didn't but since KKS is a retard, that was expected. YG/SM should just stick to making their millions in Japan/korea and occasionally release an english/international album and hold 1 or 2 Smtowns/YG Family concerts per year there. I don't even count JYP as the big 3 anymore since it looks like they'll go broken as soon as Suzy loses her popularity.

They were novel and interesting. By going to the US and trying to become American artists, they took away what made them stand out and got lost amidst all the other actual American artists. I extremely agree with those. Trying to appeal to the hip hop audience using featurings, or trying to appeal to the US audience in general copying american music won't get them anything more than a weak buzz track imo. I think the only shot they have is to keep it to the original formula, the one that made Kpop so interesting in the first place. Because I don't think they can achieve anything the way they are doing it right now. It's either try to adapt and modify the music to fit it more in american standards, or fight with the weapons you already have and that prooved efficient in the past. And if it really don't work, then maybe they'll realize that the US market is just an unapprochable dream.

What exactly does Jay Park and Ailee bring to the table that Justin Timberlake and Beyonce don't? Until you can answer that question convincingly, neither of those low-tier celebs will stand a chance in the most competitive music industry in the world. Real Asian musicians who've broken into the mainstream are Far East Movement. The problem with K-Pop is they've always been a knock-off of American pop. So most of their shit is just derivative. Meaning they have very low chances of breaking into the American market, which is always hungry for something NEW.

Meaning they have very low chances of breaking into the American market, which is always hungry for something NEW. The answer to your first question is the thing that makes or breaks kpop in foreign markets. The idol culture is just so drastically different in Korean vs Western markets, as is the media surrounding them. Kpop idols are put on pedestals and adored, and their image is as much a part of their sales and fanbase as the actual music. Western artists generally make it with a good song or album (or multiple), but their "image" isn't maintained nearly as much and a lot of what you see behind the curtain comes from intrusive paparazzi or talkshows. For Western artists, you don't see the types of things you see for idols: variety shows, BTS shows, dance practices, viral marketing - not of the song, but of the person themselves. Korean companies get you invested in the individuals as much as their music, and while you see that sometimes over here (mainly with boybands and their 16 year old girl fanbase), it's never on the same level. So while a good song might break a group into the spotlight (or something viral like PSY), until western media and audiences embrace the idol subculture, kpop won't really "make it" in the sense people want it to. I swear I've written like this exact same thing the last time we had this discussion but I'm sleep deprived so woohoo.

(well, watch maybe, you know what i mean)

I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of easy listening on it. I've always liked Hyori's velvety voice. She doesn't try too hard to bust out big vocals (read not at all). She knows her range and sticks to it and the songs come out quite nice. And Bad Girl is obviously just a fun song. I don't know why you're going all preacher man about it.
