Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.

Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.

K-pop hasn't been widely successful anywhere else other than in Korea...It makes you wonder. Personally, I'm a pretty big fan. I don't care what anybody else says or thinks about my tastes. OP was obviously a little bit sarcastic but so far this thread has been pretty troll-free (AFAIK). Personally I'd also like to see more diversity in the music. It's too bland at times you know?
It's good to at least see some electronica being mixed in recently, I think starting last year, Shinawa and the Brown Eyed Girls are some mainstream examples of the mixing of genres.
Friends of mine can't seem to distinguish between any of the bands looool. I don't blame them. Other than a few notable songs like L.O.V.E. nothing stands out for them apparently. Rock-K? Does that exist? Or K-Rap? I'd love to sample a few of those if they exist.
For my friends, can anyone recommend something that's mind blowingly good? I dunno. All of them, despite being pretty unenthused about the entire genre, are really really open minded. Guys seem to really enjoy kpop when I show them the videos though :D So yeah, I love k-pop but I'd love to see a lot more creativity in it. It needs a lady gaga....
Thing is I think K-Pop is kinda robotic especially with idol groups. They get trained so hard in the performance aspect so the songs are tailored for them to sing live (and be catchy and all that...) The song itself might be kinda crappy, but it's more geared for performances on live music shows. The more creative side of K-Pop is really unknown to a casual fan unless you delve deep into other groups and stuff.
You want electronica this is probably one of the most well known songs of that genre (by a really good group IMO)
If anyone knows about this band it's because of the female vocal
Korea's Indie Scene is like... invisible except to hardcore fans (and fuck CNBlue)
Taru and No Reply
Misty Blue (under Pastel Music, probably the biggest Indie label in Korea)
Thing about Kpop is it's not origingally intended to appeal to other people besides Koreans. They could care less if other people like it, as long as Koreans like it, it's all good. The same holds true to the Korean SC scene too.
is NIA particularly indie?
I dont really have a point of reference, but they are fantastic.
Probably pop rock bur they're good
where do you find your indie stuff? just searching through soompi?
You could do that =P How I did it, which is way more time consuming, let youtube take you to random places... music wise of course
oh the scenic route... lol I wish i had that kinda time on my hands. might just have to schedule some youtube spelunking time.

I also don't recommend it because when I was in school, like when I took hw or study breaks I'd go on youtube and start listening to stuff, and then like hours later it's 4AM and I haven't done half of my assignment yet... oops. I didn't pick the easiest majors either (Statistics) so big oops right there.

off topic but here are some examples as to why i think DBSK for #1 idol group vocals is not controversial at all. unfortunately you never get to see them like this in korea. + Show Spoiler +
Hmm... I was at a bar last weekend and saw a video with girls dancing outside on very green grass, wearing green dresses. I think the chorus was one word repeated over and over...
I've searched for a while trying to figure out the song (I keep hearing it on the streets, but forget the song later) but no luck - anyone, by chance, know what song I'm referring to? Otherwise, I hope I find it just youtubing all the major bands, eventually... -_-

Thanks! Going through some of these now; I know some K Pop already (Gee is a catchy song!)
I guess I didn't think that a lot of songs do have repetitive, one word chrous...
The only thing really specific I could say was that the music video is outdoors, whereas the vast majority of songs I've seen aren't. And as I mentioned, they are dancing on very nice looking grass! And wearing green dresses. That's all I got.
I'm sure I'll find it. Everyone in the bar seemed to know it, so I'm sure it'll turn up somewhere for me. Thanks for trying though.
