everything Abe has done has ranged from extremely solid (neia_7) to mindblowingly good (lain, renmei). elfen lied is terrible, entry level garbage. note: it's not bad because it's entry level, it's just that people tend to recommend it because they think it carries shock value and it's one of those "mature anime for mature people like myself". I laughed through the elfen lied anime because it really was that terrible. also, neither is a "mindfuck" nor is evangelion or ergo proxy. Big O is a mindfuck. I dare you to try and figure out what happens at the end of that one. R+V sucks but I like it anyway. The artwork for the manga was really good but I havent read it in a solid year so I dont know what it's like now (if it's even still running). The show was very monster of the week + ecchi + dumb humor which works for me as long as Im only watching one episode a week. Sort of like a shitty version of gintama that you watch because the author is sooooooo slow that the show has to go on (what is looking like a more permanent) hiatus. If you want something good to watch they made a YKK oav years ago. Honestly though you would be better off reading the manga, which along with Aria and Nausicaa are the best youre going to find out there.

If I could I'd make a heart with my hands for you through the internet. Also for the Elfen Lied bit.

Honestly though you would be better off reading the manga, which along with Aria and Nausicaa are the best youre going to find out there. Um, are you disagreeing with me? I said the two shows are extremely different, and I said that Elfen Lied was trashy. I never said it was mature at all, exactly the opposite. That doesn't mean that it isn't good. In fact, if you dislike it because it isn't mature and you laugh at it, aren't you saying you dislike it because it isn't "mature anime for mature people like myself"? Your stance seems hypocritical. I don't know why you hated it so much (or indeed, why a lot of people despise the show). Most of them seem to take it way way to seriously. Is Lain a mindfuck? Well, it's certainly extremely confusing and difficult to understand, and it has an ambiguous ending, and it's thought provoking. I'm not sure what you qualifications are for "mindfuck" but Lain is certainly close to being one under any reasonable definition. And Abe is seriously brilliant. I hope PH watched Haibane Renmei as I recommended to him about a month ago. Right PH? Right?

+ Show Spoiler + I'm not sure I've seen a vampire story presented quite like this. Maybe I just haven't seen enough vampire stories, or it's really that good? ;P Also, Ya! Oee is freaking hilarious.

Big O is straight up with little thinking involved until the last couple episodes so should fit your criteria well. For non-stop development/group dynamics, I vouche for Mugen no Ryvius.

Death to the industry death to my mindless hours spent watching nothing. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh EDIT Sorry i didn't read the (pretty much) + Show Spoiler + Tokyo’s manga ban has been signed into law after passing a final vote, and is set to come into effect in 2011, with Tokyo governor Ishihara crowing that “Japan still has some common sense left after all!” The ban already passed a committee vote, and as expected also passed a final vote on the 15th – the law stipulates that “voluntary restraints” must begun in April of 2011, with the full force of the ban to come in July. All the major parties supported the ban – the ruling DPJ (leftist) insisted on a “prudent application” rider but otherwise did nothing to oppose the law as they did with the previous bill. The LDP (right-wing) proposed and supported the original and current version of the bill. Their usual coalition partners, the Koumeito (the political arm of a Buddhist cult), also supported the bill, leaving only small parties to the left of the DPJ to oppose it. Once again the motives of the DPJ can only be guessed at – they have repeatedly blocked national bans on possession of child pornography (already illegal to distribute) on civil liberties grounds, opposed the previously rejected version of the bill because it was worded as a ban on “virtual child pornography,” and actually insisted the just passed Tokyo law remove a “duty not to possess [real] child pornography” clause. However, when the current bill’s wording was changed to ban depictions “promoting illegal or immoral sexual activity” (effectively a vastly more far-reaching ban than previously) rather than “[virtual] sexual activity involving minors” (this version of the ban was clearly targeting loli manga) as in the current version, their previous opposition all but evaporated. That the law explicitly excludes photographic material can probably be interpreted both as a specific attack on “otaku” culture and an effort to avoid antagonising Japan’s mass media, who obviously would not support any restrictions on themselves but are only too happy to support them on other industries. can only quote sankaku on this one but you wouldnt be able to read japanese anyway ![]() here's your japanese source http://sankei.jp.msn.com/politics/local/101215/lcl1012150901000-n1.htm so starting with 2011 late night anime is pretty much dead, because in the Tokyo area almost 30% of the japanese population live so it's very unlikely that this law wont affect the whole country, as it should not be profitable enough to leave Tokyo out.
