Aldnoah isn't completly terrible but it has a lot of bad things about it that shade the good things. There are definitely tons of better shows out there. You could go more into detail to what you are looking for and people might be able to recommend something to your likings.

If you want to fully enjoy it the Fate series then read the Fate:Stay Night visual novel. Then you can read or watch Fate/Zero (I dunno if F/Z Ln is translated or not). You can check out the recently started FSN: UBW anime (2nd season airing this spring).
If you do not want to mess with VNs or LNs then I guess watch the UBW 1st then go to Fate/Zero? I would ignore the UBW movie and the original Fate: Stay Night series. Although I guess you could watch it to get a rough idea of the Fate route (though heavily heavily recommended that you just read the FSN VN).
To make this clear: Is UBW another route of the same story of Fate Stay/Night or is it a Sequel/Prequel or is it a new adaption of the same thing just better? I'm really confused by this as well.
Fate: Stay Night is a visual novel and has 3 different routes you can take.
Fate Unlimited Blade Works Heaven's Feel
Each of these progresses through the events of the Holy Grail war but they emphasize a different heroine and the way the main character progresses through the events are different as he faces different challenges etc. So the Unlimited Blade Works is one way Fate Stay Night could have happened. The older FSN anime tried (and lolfailed) to animate the Fate route.
Ugh. Seems like I will stay away from the Fate series at least until that second season is done. I don't really wanna read stuff.

Well here is my animelist that I've put together over some time: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/DwwwD Basically all the "planning to watch" are things I will look into more before I invest the time to start watching.
I'm thinking I will start Noragami or Aldonoah next not sure yet though

Oh lord you haven't seen anything. I recommend checking out the recommendation chart lol.
You can just watch UBW without any prior knowledge about the series afaik? I dont really plan to watch the prior seasons after I finish UBW anyways tbh.

i think so. BigFan watched UBW 1st season without having any prior involvement in the series iirc

Fate fucking zero is glorious . Don't skip it. I mean try to watch it if ever you get time.

yes, I did. Someone mentioned that its probably a good start into the fate world since I don't have much knowledge about it.

I personally enjoy Aldnoah Zero. I don't really care about some of the 'bad' things that people talk about. The story is pretty entertaining and really weird at times lol. Graphics and sound are superb and the characters aren't too bad either. Some of their personalities change as the show goes on as well so that's nice to see. The only thing I will say is that the MC can be pretty OP at times. If you don't mind that (I love seeing him kick ass personally), go for it and let us know what you think afterwards ^^
edit: Noragami was great fun too! Totally different stories though lol. Hard for me to recommend one over the other seeing as I liked them both just as much though Noragami's start felt really slow to me but once it got moving, it never stopped! (till the end )
Start with UBW makes more sense than start at F/Z at least. You can always go back and catch the VN if you want. Heavens Feel have a movie (series?) in the works.
You will miss out on Fate route, but it is pretty straight forward and mostly background info for the other two routes. It is generally considered weakest of the routes.

That's not a lot to work with. I agree with Souma, check out the recommendations chart in the OP. Furthermore you could just list what you generally like about series (more descriptive). Like humorous, dark, fighting, romance etc. Or you could describe what you like about the shows you watched.

@goody: So Shigatsu will have 45 chapters or what?
On another note: The new FT zero chapter is out. + Show Spoiler +
Shit just got real. Apparently, Yuriy was cast into the bone dragon statue from the blue skulls and seeks to destroy everything now. Just more questions: Why did the jade absorb dark magic and from which actions. And why is the dark magic able to control humans all by itself?
But now we know who founded the "power of friendship beats everything"-principle. Treasure-Hunter of friendship, lmao. But somehow it's cute.

This is sad. Gonna miss Akatsuki no Yona once it ends. Haven't heard anything but I haven't started looking yet. + Show Spoiler +
Seems like he's a relaxed dragon so guess 1 is enough lol but I want to know just what Su-won is up to and what Yona's goal will be after she gathers all the four dragons which I'm not sure we'll get in the last episode next week :/

If you're looking for something to watch that's currently airing you could try Junketsu no Maria. It's actually pretty good, much better than I expected. It's got a few interesting characters and after the first two episodes the plot picks up and some intrigue begins.

I, myself, started with F/Z. It's only after being stunned by that show that I started looking for more!
Also note that F/Z was one of the first anime I've watched (before becoming an anime fan ^^). Still today, it holds a special value to me.
FSN was pale compared to FZ... I wonder if it would have been better than FZ if I would have watched FSN first (less expectations = enjoy more)
Mmm well until very recently with the new UBW adaptation there wasn't any good FSN anime lol. FSN as a story I liked a lot better then F/Z, mainly because I didn't despise 92.4% of the cast like I did in F/Z.

"mainly because I didn't despise 92.4% of the cast like I did in F/Z" Hah. I couldn't stand Shirou (Shirou seems to be a common achetype in certain series). I prefer the brutal nature of FZ. It seems more fitting for that universe
