The trick is to not watch F/SN and read the VN instead, it's readily available in Eng.
I mean plenty people watched F/Z first and that's fine, but it should not be the conscious choice if one want most out of the series.
F/Z was written with expectation of prior knowledge from F/SN, even though it's fine as a standalone, not as much the other way, so if you do F/Z first you will find some things less explained in F/Z and some things doesn't quite add up in F/SN.

Actually the ones who introduced the fate series to me first wasn't this thread but two of my friends. They said that fate zero was a prequel i should watch FSN first and i started googling about what order and i think i even asked here(i think ?). So i started with deen FSN. I absolutely fucking hated it at times but i managed to go through all 25 or was it 26 episodes.
Then i watched fate zero everything was suddenly golden. 26/25 episode of suffering was fucking worth it.(well it was not entirely terrible i had times where i enjoyed but mostly i didn't.)

On another note, I just finished watching kodomo no jikan. I must say, i expected it to be much more ecchi based off what i had heard about it. I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a lolicon, and i didn't particularly enjoy the "sexual" jokes and advances by the little girl on her teacher, but that's not what the show was about. It was an interesting attempt at showing how extreme tragedy early on in a child's life can affect that child. I think they did an ok job at showing that with Kokonoe, and with her hmm what should i call him, adoptive father Reiji.

Well, the Studio Deen adaptation was terrible.
But the biggest issues with watching Fate/Zero first is that it spoils + Show Spoiler +Saber's identity, Kotomine being pure evil, Gilgamesh even existing, Sakura's "issues", Ilya being a homunculus...
So basically watching FSN after, a lot of time is spent building up to surprises that you already know.
