Well watched the 1st episode and read the 1st chapter of Elfen Lied. Not a fan of the mass gore in the anime and the killing of that secretary (sad in both but in the manga she is told she is basically worthless and she is happy to 'help' the chief?). Also the art is a bit rough in the manga so far.
Overall I will probably continue it but it seems like there is going to be a lot of bad/sad/dark elements in it as a major part of it and that isn't my cup of tea usually for anime/manga when the dark parts is the dominating part of it. I just don't like it in this medium of entertainment I guess (probably because a lot of the stuff I watched early on was mostly happy endings light hearted stuff)
So is TWGOK a worthy anime? I picked it up like 2 months ago but once i got to the pop idol whos like a ghost or whatever I stopped. Were huge mistakes made in my decision?

The first and second season builds up for the third season. I found the girls in second season a lot more interesting than the first season. And when you get to the third season, then everything comes full circle.

No, you didn't make a mistake. I thought the first season was okay at best, the second season was pretty bad, and I didn't bother with the 3rd.
I see people reading the manga and honestly for the material I'd say it's a much better option.

Duuude, you should definetly try Mirai Nikki instead. The first 10 or so episodes are so action packed you won't be able to stop watching it.
I try to be as objective as I can be, so I won't say you should give up on Elfen Lied, but Mirai Nikki is almost the same, but with an actual story, characters, story, and ending (though with almost any anime, opinions on the ending is mixed, but the anime's ending is actually better than the manga's there), with less gore, which you don't seem to like. MN is brutal, but not as much as EL.
Also, MN is beautiful, if you watch it in 720p or better. I didn't hold it againts Elfen Lied, because it's a much older anime, but Mira Nikki is very colourful and well-detailed.
As mediocre as SnK is sometimes, that most recent episode was pretty good. A little late with watching it because I've been dumping all of my free time into MMOs whoops.
Soooo I fnally watched Angel Beats, and I don't mean finally as in a thank god it's over way, but rather in a thank god I gave it a try way. After finishing Clannad a year (or so) ago, I was desperately looking for animes to replace the sudden emptiness inside me, but never got around to start any of them, because I was afraid they would all look bad compared to Clannad. You know, much love, some drama, and then you feel sad, but all you can think about is that it was done before, just much better.
Well, the best thing about Angel Beats is that it's not Clannad; it takes a whole different approach to drama. It's action-packed, a bit bloody (nothing like MN or EL, have to clear it up, cuz I've been talking about these two recently), and has some dark humour to it. It's not a spoiler, that our main characters are already dead, so there's plenty of room to kill them off again, and again, and again in funny ways. Like in an old cartoon. The whole setting is absurd: a war in some heaven-like place, but the villain is a shy girl, and the war plans include stealing meal tickets, and winning baseball matches, because that will surely show her!
Clannad focuses on real life issues and relationships, while Angel Beats focuses on the term life and living itself. Rebel is also a center motive, the intention to change something radically, because you believe the way it works now is wrong. These are quite heavy topics, but you won't feel pressured, the story slowly but surely walks you around it, and at the end you can reach to your own conclusions. But even if you don't care about all of this, tehere are characters and a story behind them - much to my sadness, we don't get to know all of it, I think it's something AB could've done better, but with 13 episodes it's understandable. I don't think you'd find any of the characters obnoxious, they are surprisingly not annoying; especially Yuri - I was sure they would eventually make me want to hate her, but no.
The score is really good; I'm not gonna say "ohmagahd best ever!", but it has some really nice tracks, and even the "worst" ones get you into the proper mood. I especially liked the scenes where the band was performing, while the others were mindig their mission, I think those were the coolest moments of the series.
It's not nearly as sad and emotionally destroying as Clannad, but I think it's a pro in many ways. I mean, it really shows Clannad's greatness that it can make you an emotional wreck for weeks/months, no matter what state you were in before you started watching it, but I'm totally fine with being "just sad", or rather, moved. Angel Beats got the better of me many times: there were some truly great scenes. My favourites were + Show Spoiler +
ending of the metro scene, the "wedding", and of course Kanade's confession at the end. Damn, when she didn't say "I love you too" I suddenly felt soooo uneasy, because I knew what was coming.
I managed to hold on to my manhood, never dropped a single tear (had to fight bravely though), so it only reached a 2 out of 4 on my "how much Clannad humiliated me" chart. 3 being actual tears falling off, and 4... CUT IT, CUT IT!! --
I don't have an urge to tell the world that this is the best anime ever created, and everyone must see it, etc. etc., it's just simply... perfect. You get exactly what you would want, nothing more, nothing less. It has a beginning, and an end, and you feel fulfilled after you finishing it. 9/10 Why not 10? I feel it could've been longer. I was really looking forward to see the past of every support character, and have a proper closure for everyone. On the other hand, it would've probably slowed down the pace of the anime, but for me personally, it would've been better.
I'm looking at the recommended animes poster, and I think I might try Gunslinger Girl next, sounds cool, and it's labeled as a drama as well. I mean, girl, gun, drama, what could go wrong, right? Right?! Anyway, if you have a better suggestion within drama (or Gunslinger Girl sucks) feel free to tell me about it!:D I'd really like to try something Mirai Nikki-like anime again as well, but Elfen Lied was such a letdown...

Let me tell you the story of my experience with the TWGOK manga.
I liked the manga. I liked how the arcs were short and self contained. I liked how it was a little tongue in cheek with regards to all the anime tropes it explored. I liked how it sidestepped becoming a harem story at the end of each arc.
And then the goddess arc happened. Originally, I was excited to see how the mangaka was going to handle a long, overarching story. But as it turns out, he really sucks at pacing them. The entire thing took 100 chapters to wrap up, at which point I had lost most of my initial enthusiasm. On top of that, the followup to the goddess arc seems destined to be drawn out as well. I get the distinct impression that the mangaka had a plan on what to do for the goddess arc, but lost his way when trying to extend the projected life of the manga.
As for the anime, it's ok. It's not bad, but at the same time, not good enough to hold my attention, having prior knowledge of the story's events.
Angel Beat's problem is that it wasn't 26 episodes, though it was supposed to be, otherwise it'd be a 10/10 anime. As it is it's like a 7 or 9 depending on preference.
