Also the art is a bit rough in the manga so far.
Overall I will probably continue it but it seems like there is going to be a lot of bad/sad/dark elements in it as a major part of it and that isn't my cup of tea usually for anime/manga when the dark parts is the dominating part of it. I just don't like it in this medium of entertainment I guess (probably because a lot of the stuff I watched early on was mostly happy endings light hearted stuff) Duuude, you should definetly try Mirai Nikki instead. The first 10 or so episodes are so action packed you won't be able to stop watching it. I try to be as objective as I can be, so I won't say you should give up on Elfen Lied, but Mirai Nikki is almost the same, but with an actual story, characters, story, and ending (though with almost any anime, opinions on the ending is mixed, but the anime's ending is actually better than the manga's there), with less gore, which you don't seem to like. MN is brutal, but not as much as EL. Also, MN is beautiful, if you watch it in 720p or better. I didn't hold it againts Elfen Lied, because it's a much older anime, but Mira Nikki is very colourful and well-detailed. Any other animes (recent ones preferred with 720p+) that are just like Elfen Lied? Took a really long hiatus from anime, and only watched the standard duo + a few others like Death Note, Geass, etc., but the dark/tragic/horror/violence really grasped my attention. I really enjoyed Fate Night Stay (?), Claymore, Proxy something (?).. basically pretty much anything that has a complex plot with action and dark undertones. Any suggestions is appreciated!
Ergo Proxy? I would recommend Paranoia Agent, Boogiepop Phantom, Gunslinger Girl, and Kino's Journey.

As for 720+ - usually not going to happen for the kind of anime you're looking for.
What I can reccomend if you liked Ergo Proxy is:
Texhnolyze Paranoia Agent Monster Aoi Bungaku Series Deadman Wonderland
Oh and if you enjoyed F/SN anime (how I honestly don't know how that is possible) you should probably check out Fate/Zero if you haven't already, as welll as Kara no Kyoukai. Both fit your bill anyway, so.

Finished Hoshizora no Memoria.
It was better than expected, although the stuff about stars all the time got a bit annoying. I found all routes somewhat enjoyable, liked Kosame + Komomo combo the most and Isuzu's route was in my opinion the best apart from those. Many people seem to have issues with Isuzu's character, personally I liked it and I also found most of the humor / interaction between the characters funny throughout the VN.
+ Show Spoiler [pretty significant spoilers] +The true route(s) after the 5 "main" heroines were sort of disappointing. I thought that the idea behind Yume's route was really good and it was pretty sad at times but it just didn't take off. Mare's route was pretty disappointing as well. Both had a lot of potential and just fell flat on their face, unlike Komomo/Kosame routes which were incredibly good throughout, except perhaps Komomo's route's very end.
I'd say it's overall about 8/10. Komomo/Kosame routes would be around 9.5/10

Oh yeah, and Rewrite VN by Key.

The animation difference between the first episode and the first episode of the 2nd season is astonishing. is kingdom worth watching? can't get past that lego paper look on the first episode I,m in no position to speak... (I've only seen the first three episodes of first season). At first, the animation was annoying, but i think I can live it... The story is what is keeping me from going on. It feels like Berserk. I train, I beat you. You beat me, but I live, so I train even harder and beat you... Or... You are stronger, but I have the power of friendship so I'm not alone -_-
well, what you said is true for the first 3 episodes. If you go beyond that, you will see that it is not really about what you said, especially in Kingdom season 2, where you get a complete overhaul of the animation, a ton of new interesting characters and less focus on the MC and more on the overall history and it's characters.
of course that is how I think, and yes, I'm a fan of the show.

Although, I would agree that Mare's route is rather lacking. It felt like a side route to Yume's route. Would've been best if she got a seperate route of her own. I liked all the routes except for Chinami. Why did they even include that route, I have no idea.
Finished Higurashi ep7, Finally on the last episode/chapter.
I would say that I liked the atmosphere on Higurashi more than Umineko. That is because Umineko focused more on wordplay and tricks which kind of detracted from the atmosphere. But Umineko has better story overall. Managed to figure out the culprit after ep 6. + Show Spoiler [Higurashi spoilers] +I knew that Takano was faking death ever since her death has been announced and that she died 24 hours before Watanagashi festival since ep 3 or something because it uses a similar trick that Umineko did. But I was suspecting Irie the most because of the manager being involved heavily in ep1. I thought that Takano was just an accomplice or a copycat.

I just realized that I watched Nisemono without ever seeing OP and ED because I played them with VLC, which did not work properly. Worst mistake of my life. That ED looks so gorgeous :3

Aren't we having too many posts about recommendations lately?
I'm glad everyone is being helpful (even though there are plenty of better sources to find new anime than asking here) but it's not a very interesting topic

Are we even watching the same anime? People keep dying every episode (except for the three main ones just like in every single other action anime out there). Animation is on the higher end considering most anime have pretty bad animation and the pacing is pretty decent imo.
If you are comparing new anime series to your all time favorites, you are going to have a difficult time finding new anime that you like + Show Spoiler [hint] +There is some good stuff between 0/10 and 10/10 animes, such as 8/10 and 9/10

Still-frames and 10-minute smoke screens. They got dat tight budget on lockdown yo.
Prolly shouldnt have wasted all that flashy tree acrobatics animation on the first ep.
