Spring line up looks so dissapointing. Even Kore wa Zombie doesnt interest me anymore, I feel like I grew out of those types of animes.
gg =(
Don't fret, there is always Thomas the Tank Engine.
o_O
Spring line up looks better than this season at least. A lot of the shows just didn't interest me at all.
Psssh, this season has plenty of good shows, more than what next season is at least. Next season has like 2 I'm hyped for, this season had 4, plus various others still airing/decentish.

Ah, depends. Usually I don't like shounen action(or any genre) animes but I like soul eaters characters and it's stupid humour. Fighting scenes just even more waste of time for me than pantyshot fanservice (Atlest theylast only few seconds). I like to do something else when I watch that show, so overall I'd say I can really enjoy my time watching it. Haven't watched for a while and I'm at about 17 ep yet, I think.
Still if you got a lot of time to waste and like shounen action then definitely recommending it. It's also probably one of those animes it's good to have watched (at least some).
Meh, atm the only ones Im anticipating are Shining Hearts, cause of the seiyuus (holy goodness). And Upotte, only cause its xebec, and Im hoping for ecchi skecchi.
But I feel like Winter season was very good. We had Nisemonogatari and Amagami SS, which are no-brainer-must-watch-season 2s. And Aquarion EVOL and Rinne no Lagrange, which were both surprisingly very good.

Code Geass still my favorite. Sure, LoGH has a way better plot and characterization, with more epicess, but Code Geass is still my number 1. Code Geass caused a more intimate emotional reaction from me, while LoGH opens me up to perspectives about war and politics I'd never really considered (with emotional reactions also, but those reactions weren't about me, but rather my feelings of how crazy our own world is). Code Geass may be inferior, but it still is my number one. It was the first anime I ever completed that I viewed as an anime, and it made a slight change in my life. LoGH is making my more open-minded though, and showing me things about the world I never really noticed. My favorite anime would probably be in this order: Code Geass, Madoka, LoGH, and then Steins; Gate.
What did everyone think about the Black Lagoon OVA? I just watched it a week ago and thought it got pretty damn dark and creepy. The TV anime at least seemed lighthearted in most arcs, but the OVA was like O_O.

Yeah, aside from wondering how he didn't get lung cancer and die immediately, it felt like he turned into a major asshole by the end of the OVAs. Other than that, since the OVAs were released at such ridiculous lengths apart, I never really understood much of the story and was confused as hell as to why Rock was pissed at Mr. Chang and why/how he outplayed him in the end.
Spring Season For sure will be watching Fate/Zero, Sankarea, and Saki. Will probably pick up others depending on the initial episode reviews I read.

Especially Rock. If it wasn't clear to you that he had dramatically changed by the end of the TV series, it's extremely obvious in the OVA.
You thought Black Lagoon was lighthearted in the TV anime...? Really? The series had been steady progressing in the same direction the entire time, towards where it was in the OVA. By season 2, it should have been clear.

Intimate reaction? What do you mean? Like, the anime getting you emotional over something? If so, LoGH will deliver, just you see lol. And when you say that Geass is inferior, but you still like it more, is that because of nostalgia?

First of all a major theme of Black Lagoon is the difference between the world of the living and the world of the dead, the latter of which is what Balalaika and Revy love calling their carnage-filled underworld. From the first arc, when Rock is left for dead, to the Tokyo arc (end of season 2) there's this slow build-up as Rock tries to adjust from transitioning from a "living" mentality to a "dead" one.
Rock, then, is motivated by his inability to provide a safe "out" for the girl in Tokyo, who was pretty much a sacrificial pawn in the face of Hotel Moscow and the Yakuza. You see, that whole shenanigan was plotted from the start: the girl and Gin were basically set up as like the scapegoat for a major Yakuza gang (hence her sudden elevation to the post), and Hotel Moscow would demolish the gang - the other Yakuza gangs would essentially secure their own footing, while being subordinate to Hotel Moscow without shedding any of their blood. Hotel Moscow would in turn gain significant rule over the Japanese underworld. By the time he realized what was going on (car scene) it was too late - he'd been fucking around for so long with one foot still in the "world of the living" that he'd not amassed the power to do anything.
When Roberta comes knocking, he realizes that what Chan is trying to do is manipulate everything: he uses Roberta as an excuse to play the leader over Balalaika (a position that was more-or-less in place since he beat Balalaika in the duel), deflects the US army from Roanapla to the Golden Triangle by using the drug cartel as bait, and also wants to get on the US army's good side by selling Roberta to them. His "victory" as such is simply the following: 1) without doing shit, he can (use others, including Rock) to distance Roberta from Roanapla 2) if the US army dies, they'll die away from Roanapla, so no attention falls on them 3) if Roberta dies, he'll have provided sufficient assistance (Black Lagoon transportation, Hotel Moscow, etc.) that he can claim assistance and get on their "good side" I believe his "best" outcome was extermination of both sides: Roberta slaughters most of the US army, Roberta, Garcia, and Fabiola are slain. Attention is shifted from Roanapla (Roberta is "unrelated" after all), the bother (Roberta, Garcia) are removed from the picture, and the survival of the US army puts them in his debt. Furthermore by pulling off a perfect victory he secures his standing as the "top" of Roanapla. Bam. This is also why Chan said the moment Roberta moved out of Roanapla and the US army followed via Black Lagoon, "he'd won."
Now, on the flip side, the CIA stands to gain from Chan's ego being bruised, which is why Eda offers Rock assistance (for reasons unbeknownst to him).
In the Roberta arc Rock brainstorms (that night scene as he's scribbling on the map) trying to understand the whole power structure of Roanapla, each faction's interests, attempts to guess their actions, and tries to find a "way out" for those involved. After all, both Roberta and Garcia are supposed to be sacrificed as pawns for Chan's glory. The end result is that he comes up with a psychopathic method of ensuring "jackpot" (survival of all parties), a victory that comes as a result of him "playing with other peoples' lives" (he sacrificed vast numbers of the US army to weaken Roberta, then gambled Garcia's life).
Edit: Forgot, the other smack in the face of Chan is that because of the way it played out, to an extent, the US army feels more indebted to Black Lagoon (not Chan), and unbeknownst to him (but Chan certainly realizes it), the CIA tilts its scales away from Chan.

The manga is pretty damn dark actually imo, I guess being a broadcast anime they had to tone things down but for a straight to DVD OVA they could have it more faithful to the source material. If only they'd start releasing chapters again :<

At the cost of sounding very base, there wasnt enough Revy. Her only role was begrudgingly trying to keep him out and constant warning leading to a "whatever, do what you want".
And like you said his jackpot method had soo many "what ifs" in it the only thing it really helped do was put him over the edge. And personally I didnt mind stuck in limbo Rock. The buffer and dynamic that made with Revy was fun enough for me to want more of the same after such a hiatus.
Ill admit if I had just watched back to back seasons and gone to Blood trail it wouldve been better. So very "Grimdark"

It's a series that I've mostly enjoyed so far, but I literally had to stop watching because of the protagonist. How far in does he stop being a tremendous asshole and start being a decent legitimate human being? Cause I'm really tired of him yelling and screaming and treating everyone like shit yet still getting love, not only from the characters in the anime but also from fans in reviews and the like.
Where are you? I finished the series but I never really found him as a big asshole, the only assholish moments are imo in the first 10 episodes of the first anime, I think you will have to try to understand him, though, in order to enjoy any of the deeper stuff that's going to happen.. You can't just block a person like perhaps you do IRL? Try putting yourself in his shoes, etc. That said, I understand if you simply do not like Chiyaki - in that case, though, the show is probably not for you. Can't imagine a scenario in which you hate the MC but you like the show, anyway. Oh wait, School days.
Agreed. Part of the series is him learning to be less of an asshole. It comes from him being a perfectionist, and is a part of his personality that he never completely gets rid of, but yeah, there is more to it than just he is an annoying MC. As a pianist, I really enjoyed the series overall and found it quite inspirational at times. If only I didn't have tiny hands, I wouldn't have given up so easily on this amazing piece.
well, I can play up to like page 15 but then it just starts getting really crazy. That said, I can understand not liking MC (let's be honest though, Nodame gives him way more stress than he deserves). Anyway, I guess it really depends how far you are into the series. If you're not even halfway through season 1, keep going. If you're done with season 1, I can't imagine you liking the rest.
I really liked this series and the MC, speaking as both a pianist and at times (or in certain areas) a perfectionist and going through life trying to become less of an asshole, although it's not always working out. But I think I've become a lot better the past year.

Hey guys, its yet another annoying anime noob. Since I have absolutely 0 experience with anime hopefully you guys can help me out a bit. Fear not i won't ask for any recommendations, because i got a lot of that while skimming through this thread, however almost all of the titles i encountered, do (according to wikipedia^^) exist in form of a manga as well as anime.
Personally i would probably prefer reading a manga (i found mirai nikki in this thread and i thank you for that gem guys), but most of you guys seem to rather watch an anime (hence the thread title i guess). So what do you think is the better choice and why?
Some examples of titles i found and might consider (a selection based solely on their number of appereances in this thread, i have no clue what they are about^^):
Steins;gate clannad fate/zero madoka
So my question is: manga or anime? (if thats a stupid question you just can't hear anymore, which I could imagine, I appologize^^)

For series that started off as manga I'd recommend reading them as for the most part the first medium is usually better. However the first two series you listed started off as VNs (visual novels), with the third being a light novel prequeal of a VN and lastly Madoka which is original work. The manga is usually just used as a storyboard for the eventual anime and in that case I'd rather play it and if you're not willing to go that far watch it.
