Sad truth is most VNs are forcing eroge scenes into the stories and that's the only way they can boost sells and survive. That said, there are still good VNs that not relied on that as Clannad ect. And some VNs have good storyline and worth reading even if you skip all those eroge scences. However, the fact isn't changed as majority of the VNs are relying on those 18X stuff. The question at hand is whether T-M needed that, not a random startup or low budget nukige company, but T-M.
At the point when F/SN released, they probably didn't need it, but it was a good safety net to build in. Considering the multiple ports since then, it is pretty probable that they won't be relying on that much from now on.
So yeah, like I said earlier. The reasoning is pretty obvious, a degree of appeal to fans is good. The real question would be whether anything was actually hurt from this act.

They changed the setup because they want the protagonist to have eroge scenes with rin and sakura too. Not hard to understand.

Truth is, even the best VN producing companies cannot live without eroge scenes. Clannad is great and successful, but when they do Tomoyo after, they still have to add a bunch of eroge stuff. If a company stick to making all-age VNs? Just look at how KID turns out.

However as long as the action is something like the previous installment then it should be worth watching.
I still hate how they made Arthur a female just b/c it is an anime and they need sex appeal/someone for the male to love. I guess you missed Southlight's post on that circling scene earlier. Irritating? Yeah, it was supposed to be. Forced? lol. You realize that F/Z is a prequel, and that Saber was a girl in FSN too, right? And that originally FSN was a Visual Novel, not an anime, right? And that the MC already has a love interest in this show who isn't Saber, right? Why is Arthur a female, regardless of how the series started? What possible reason could there be other than some stupid attempt to get males to like the show more than they would otherwise because it is a hot female in armor rather than some badass like all the other heroes. Maybe it's "edgy" that they can change lore around for one mythic char but keep others much more in line with the original. Why not just make every hero a hot female reinterpretation of the old heroes?
Does the phrase "artistic license" mean anything to you? No? How about "who gives a fuck?" Besides, Saber IS a badass, so either you haven't read/watched it, or you are grossly misinformed like Spazer.

VNs aren't as limited by time constraints as anime (season length) and can take their time, pace themselves and the reader. This can make for a stunning story telling, the way the author of the story intended it to go. Visuals and music/sound are also a huge part of the experience. It feels like you're reading a book, but the characters each have their own voices and feel more alive.
They also have a varying amount of interaction required from the reader. F/SN has a lot of choices for the player to make, which more often than not, result in a dead end. This can be fun in and of itself, to figure out the right sequence to progress with the story further. The dead ends in F/SN aren't meaningless. You get a tiger-stamp and get to see a special scene or dialogue between characters. Collecting is fun.
Such VNs as Ef - a Fairy Tale of the Two, have very few choices, which are quite obvious, limiting the interaction to almost zero.
There are also VNs like Planetarian which require no interaction at all. You just click or press a key and the narrative of the story continues.
Granted there are times when characters fuck, but honestly I just fast forward those scenes. The descriptions become very long and though out, and are usually not worth the read unless you're into erotica novels I guess. They break the feel of the VN for me personally, unless sex is a big part of the novel and it's selling point.
I guess "A drug that makes you dream" has a rather mature plot with a lot of fucking, while a VN like "My girlfriend is the president" has a very weak plot, is a comedy, and can attribute it's popularity to the sex scenes.
Overall I enjoy VNs. They are fun to read with a walkthrough when you're not in the mood for playing your usual games and want something different. Everyone should go read Eustia Find me a DL link and an english patch and I'll give it a spin -_- It isn't in english to my knowledge, so IDK why he wants everyone to read it. It will be in English in hopefully another 8-12 months . Hopefully I won't have forgotten about it when that happens.
I really doubt that it'll be finished that fast. If you can read Chinese, there's a completed patch for it somewhere.

Lafiel is the best female heroine of forever. Too bad the novel series is pretty much dead. We will never get to see her ascend to the Ahb throne.
Mahoutsukai no Yoru (if it ever comes out) is all-ages so they're probably moving away from porn now. Considering the success of the Science series (Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate), hopefully more companies will be following suit.

Except they got slammed for Tomoyo After, and the whole affair with LB Ex! was them trolling players. Sticking to making all-age VN is honestly not as bad as you make it out to be, look at the shit we see on PS2. There are also stuff like IMas that's basically VN, if even.
tbh it is an ok trend far as I am concerned. Focus on all-age market, use 18+ content as cash cow. Also consistent with the focus getting placed on consoles (and in nitro+ case, iPad) to keep revenue stream steady.

Mahouyoru trolling us for so long, I'd be amazed if it even releases 2011. At this rate it might beat Cross Days in terms of being one of the most delayed games. But yeah, Nitro+ and T-M both taking the Key route and focusing hard on all-age and to an extent, console. btw, did you see that new one for the science series on the 360?
RW Ex would be scary, but Kotori-san too good. Disclaimer + lolikotori = Ferrose jailbait?

Alright guys I just wanted to say that I've been starting to enjoy anime again after 4years of manga
I obviously started out with Anime and then I just found it shitty to wait for new episodes and for just that period of time I was happy to be up to date and later to found out I had to wait for chapters anyways... Which is rather shit But the good thing is that ofcourse a chapter of manga is less time consuming than an episode of anime!
Ok with that said, let me give you a list that I've followed before the manga-craze Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Dragonball Z, Hunter x Hunter (till GIfinal), Slam Dunk, YuYuHakusho and Death Note. Now that I've been watching again I watched some new ones recommended by friends. Which of these I would also recommend them to you. Aswell as the ones I've already seen or are still ongoing! Anyhow I started with Code Geass + R2, then I went on to an anime that I've been waiting for since the 5th manga chapter - Deadman Wonderland, after that a series that is just awesome imho - Steins;Gate
So here you go. Watch these :D
PS, new HxH out so go watch that one.

Random poster that posts a bunch of manga with no yuri or shoujo or even decent Seinen in it aside from SG....sigh

Just watched Horizon. It seemed like a bunch of action while explaining the world. There's so many characters already; how many of them are actually main cast? Also the main guy's face is drawn weird...kinda annoys me. At least I was happily surprised to find out Minori Chihara is in it and sings the OP. No real opinion yet, but since it's been hyped in this thread, I look forward to future episodes.

Did you end up getting Hadena's subs, or something else that I don't know about? I have no clue when "The Anime Network" does their simulcast. If the former, how were they? I downloaded and saw how horrible they did on C^3, so I'm curious if I should wait to see if Commie's still planning on subbing it.

UTW should have it up tomorrow, right? Hadena's C3 made me puke (and not because of C3 itself, hehe).

Hmm let me see... Shiki, Saber, Arcueid, Canan. Yea preety much everything that comes from Type Moon got a female fighter as the main character and useless support male character. Thats their thing i guess.
Does every VN is actually eroge or got some eroge elements ?
