Dany is still far away. Dragons are small still. Only 8000 men. She will be a force, that is obvious, but I doubt it will be this season. Wonder how they're gonna make her a threat but not overpowered, with dragons.
This is not an mmo, they don't have to balance anything and on top of that grrm loves to kill people. I believe that in the end daenerys is destined to own everyone, easily. And maybe she won't need to, the ice zombie apocalypse may make her seem as a savior if she arrives at westeros in just the right time. The last targaryen with 3 bamf dragons vs the ice thingies. I think everyone will love her.
I also think it's going to come down to this, Dany will save the realm from the whites. It's called "A Song of Ice and Fire"... But then again, in a devotion GRRM wrote that he thanked his wife for "making me put the Dragons back in", so presumably that's not what he had in mind when thinking about the overarching story.
Only time will tell, so I passionately hope GRRM lives long enough.

I find reading the books AFTER watching the shows is much more satisfactory

I'd think it would be more suprising to read the books afterwards, not necessarily more satisfactory. For me it is a way to visit the world I read about again, and view it in a different way. I read all the books after watching season 1. So I get the opportunity to first let my phantasy run free using GRRMs descriptions of the world (admittedly, the characters in my phantasy look somewhat similar to the ones that were in season 1), and then seeing what the TV adaptation made of it. I have to say they're doing a great job.
A different point I would like to make: theorycrafting in this thread is always going to feel a bit fishy, as the people who craft the best theories might actually have read the books. Never trust anonymous people on the internet, unfortunately.

I dont read this thread for a couple of days to avoid unintentional spoilers and never read youtube comments for GOT related stuff and never been spoiled so far. Hope it stays that way

Season 3 has been moving so slow. Almost nothing happened in 3 episodes besides some politics.

Season 1 and 2 where moving a lot quicker, but hopefully it's just a slow build up in season 3...

Seriously, for all these people talking about books they can't read the giant text at the top of this thread...
Go talk in the other thread about the show and how you feel superior for reading the books, I like having something to look forward to each week. I've read the first and second book and sure they're great, you'd have to be fucking stupid to think that a book directly translated into a movie or show would be anything but a complete mess and horribly boring.

Mod Edit: How hard can it be to not mention the books at all?
User was warned for this post

And there again "book blahblah book"... IS IT THAT HARD?

Updated the mod note. Don't mention the books or I will do bad things to your account.

The slow buildup is because the third book has been split in two for Season 3 and 4. So the fourth episode in this season is about the same pace as the second episode in Season 1 or 2
|
I don't actually feel this season has developed that slow. I felt that the start of the second season was a lot duller than the start of this one. I also feel there is more stories that are being followed simultaneously in all episodes (up to the point where all stories cannot be in every episode), but I could be wrong :D
+ Show Spoiler +Can't wait to see how Jamie's and Brienne's relationship develops now that Jamie sort of saved her and got his hand chopped off in the process, and also what kind of impact their relationship is ultimately going to have in the grand sceme of things!

Thanks for the moderating Kadaver, been lucky to not catch any spoilers while participating in discussion yet and hope it stays like that!
Really excited for Arya's plot, I hope she meets up with that badass Jaqen again someday

Thanks KadaverB, updated my signature too, all bits help

Maybe it's an idea to rename the thread title too. Instead of
[TV] HBO Game of Thrones
to something like
Game of Thrones (no book talk)
Reason being, that some don't see the white box, but they will see the link they click.

maybe we need a thread where you can spoiler book 3 but not any further. so there is a place where you can compare the book to the tv show adaption without fearing to be spoilered when you havent finished all books yet and dont spoiler people that only watch the tv show.
because to me and a lot of other people that havent finished the books its like walking a tightrope. You have to be super careful with what you say here to not spoiler and if you go to the spoiler book thread you might stumble upon spoilers for book 5.

Doesn't work since some of the book is left out and some of the show features thins perhaps later in the series but drawn back a bit or expanded upon. You can just never be safe enough for a spoiler not to happen.
