I would start to read and feel tired sometimes, just to realize that I already read 30 pages or something. Already ordered War and Peace, also by Tolstoy. While waiting for delivery I'll read The Process by Kafka, along with some of his short stories. Not sure if The Process and The Trial are the same story but I have read The Trial and it is incedible. I too loved Anna Karenina but I struggled with War and Peace. It becomes very philosophical at times and for about 100 pages is almost devoid of any story and seems to be almost a rant. I finished it but didnt enjoy large parts of it. Anna Karenina is a much better novel than War and Peace. My two cents

Also yeah from what I've heard "War and Peace" is not as fluid as "Anna Karenina". But I really liked the last part of the latter, which is mostly philosophical rambling by Levin, so I guess I'm gonna enjoy it.

Do the stories get significantly better or is it the same quality as its been up until the poet story? I heard fall of hyperion is even more tedious lol....sorta discouraging. Poet was filled with references to John Keats, and random poems, none of which I really understood. I think his part was supposed to partially cover the origin of the Shrike, and it is intentionally confusion and abstract. The parts after the Poet are the Scholar, Detective and Consul. The Scholar's tale is probably most touching; Detective, most informative about hyperion; Consul, most well-written. My favourite part is probably still the first chapter, that really reminded me Speaker for the Dead for some reason, a book I read ten years ago.

But check out Ender's Shadow and the other Bean books, they are very good. When I read the books, I felt like I was reading two different series within the same world. Speaker, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind seemed really different from Ender's Game, and the Shadow books. For those who really like Ender's Game, you'll probably like the Shadow Quartet, since its written in a similar style. Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind, are written much more similarly to some of Card's older books, like Songmaster. I personally liked those stories, but most people don't. The new prequel trilogy involving Earth, is somewhat in between in style.

My favourite part is probably still the first chapter, that really reminded me Speaker for the Dead for some reason, a book I read ten years ago. So I finished Hyperion yesterday as well. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Sci-Fi and it is a step above the other sci-fi that I have read (admittedly I haven't read a lot). The stories are really varied and fleshes out this universe so well. It's a love letter to the future & space and is a wonderful portrayal of how the human spirit/whatever might adapt to these new problems in the future. I really enjoyed all the stories but the Consul's story bought a tear to my eye and the Scholar's story was a tragedy the likes of which I've never read. These two stood out to me. The rest of the book is amazing. Skip the last two pages though. I don't know what those are about. I'll get around to reading the sequel soon but actually, I'm not sure I need to. Next up is The Shadow of the Soul by Sarah Pinborough. It's the second in a trilogy, A Matter of Blood is the first, and it's a detective story with some gritty super-natural intrigue thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed the first one a bunch and keen to see where this one goes. It has already annoyed me by being a tall book with 400 pages but about 100 words per page. I hate non-mass-market paperbacks of thriller books. I feel like I'm reading a kids story holding this thing. It's not super smart and if you're looking for a high fantasy book, this isn't even close to it. I can't remember if I've said this before, but I'm also reading the Four Hour Body by Timothy Ferris. I'm not using it to lose weight or anything like that, but it's been interesting so far. I like his way of writing and I can always learn a few things from his books. I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a book for dieters (I'm not doing the diet in the book) but it's pretty good as an accessory for a general healthy lifestyle.

It's so wonderfully, disgustingly descriptive. I actually read Iron Council a few years back but I was probably too young to completely understand it, but reading Perdido Street Station is a wonderland for the imagination.

russian books are so fucking crazy and hard to understand, in terms of the personal interactions. my copy of the book has a funnier cover though, with the giant black cat just laying back in a chair smashing some voddy

I think his idea of "double movement" limiting, but it is a fascinating way of seeing the reaction and counter reactions of recent Western political and economic history. A top read.

Merci en Avance. P.S: I personally really like the psychological/philosophical genre but if anything that have blown your mind that doesn't belong to them, I'm absolutely fine with it as well.
