Lewis was all emotional "sorry i let mom and dad down, please take care of my home" in the end of the previous episode, and very quickly in this episode [unknown time but apparently very short time later] he was very combative. Louis is emotional that is why he reacts intens to everything. But he reacts based on his emotions, his resignation was sad emotionally. Mike's secret feels like a terrible injustice to him and that makes him angry ^-^.
Fairness and justice are big with louis, he felt he needed to resign because he had been in the wrong and threatend the whole firm. Mike's secret exposed Jessica's extreme hypocrisy and that is the one thing Louis hates above all else. I think it's consistent writing. Louis reacts in extremes.

Ah, when he was pissed that he couldn't take any clients with him? Yeah he was pretty exasperated since he had said (at the beginning of the episode, when he visited Harvey boxing) that he applied and interviewed at a bunch of places but was shot down each time for not having any clients to bring. It appears that this episode takes place a week or two after he resigned, which gave him plenty of time to become a little bitter and frustrated.
Anyway, I just realized this episode was great because I can't remember any Rachel or new-black-lawyer scenes.
Haha yeah Rachel was pretty much irrelevant this episode, and Jeff Malone wasn't in it at all. I was happy with that too

Yeah, the show seems a bit schizophrenic sometimes. The same went for Harvey and the question of whether he's more of a bad-ass when he picks up any woman he wants or commits his love to one woman. The writers don't seem to know if Louis should be more lovable or fearsome as a reflection of his emotional outbursts (contrasted with the relative coolness of Harvey and Mike).
But it has been alluded several times over the show that Louis inevitably channels every emotion into rage, the rage that makes him a great lawyer when he tries (and which promptly turns to the contempt that is his ultimate weakness). I suppose it's plausible that he left gracefully when his choice was jump or be fired, but the bad job market quickly disillusioned him into realizing that he wasn't prepared at all to leave because he hadn't taken any clients. Of course, he should have known since he already played this game with Allison Holt, who wouldn't make him a senior partner because he couldn't bring any clients.

I hope something real happens soon. Every season is stuff happening and then everything reverting mostly back to normal by the end of it...
+ Show Spoiler +I had to look up last seasons episode synopsis to remember what happened. Louis is going to get name partner for sure and that leaves us back at square one except Louis knows about Mike and his secret.

At least Louis will be back to being a dick, albeit an awesome one. The cast was starting to feel too much like a happy family. I want more awesome lawyer bickering.
|
Yeah Louis is going back to the opportunistic douche he was early on in the series... he's trying to blackmail Jessica, he's lost Sheila, he found out Mike never went to Harvard... he's surely in a worse place now than when he was a few seasons ago. He feels betrayed by pretty much everyone, even Donna, since she kept Mike's lie a secret. He feels like such a fool.
But then again, I'm sure we'll see the other side to Louis come out pretty soon like it always inevitably does- the side that just wants to be appreciated and loved and buddy-buddy with everyone. He really makes the show what it is.

That's about as far from square 1 as you can possibly get to. Other then the fact that they are all still working at a law firm not a lot is really the same as it was in season 1 or even season 2 for that matter.

You wouldn't think that Suits is a "case of the week" type show where any real development happens during the first and last seasons, but I fear that's what it is except it's "case of the season" this time around. What I mean is all the stuff that has happened haven't left any real lasting effects on the people working at the firm. Let me explain...
+ Show Spoiler + In the beginning the firm was really (I don't remember exactly if there were any other higher ups except Jessica, but we didn't see them at least) run by Harvey and Jessica just like it is now, nothing has changed.
Mike and Rachel's relationship hasn't been very complicated throughout the seasons. They are in love, stuff happens and they fight but ultimately get together again and forget all that has happened in the past. Nothing has changed.
Harvey and Donna, just like in the first season still has this will they/won't they thing going on. Scottie could have changed things but didn't in the end. If I recall correctly Donna made it clear in the first season that she and Harvey would never be a couple and after all that has happened in their love lives they are still single and still attracted to each other just like in the first season. Nothing has changed.
Louis has always been underappreciated. Sometimes Jessica and/or Harvey throws him a bone, but in the end he is still that comedic relief character who doesn't get to pull strings. What happened in the latest arc is some really big stuff, but I expect that him becoming name partner won't change anything. He'll be name partner but whenever anything serious comes around Jessica and Harvey will handle it with Louis getting frustrated on the sidelines, just like it's always been. It'd be great if I was wrong, but I am pretty confident about this.
Other big characters (or so I thought) like Daniel Hardman, Darby, Scottie and whoever is Harveys rival that season are almost completely forgotten after their arc is done (Scottie was around for a bit longer than the others). Sometimes their names are mentioned in conversations but they aren't there in any meaningful way. Also worth mentioning is that the big season arcs (Mergers, Hardmans strong arming, malpractice claims, Mikes investment banking) haven't affected the firm in any way. I seriously can't think of any effects. When was the last time we heard anything about Hardman or the Darby merger?
One of the few changes that has happened is the Louis/Katrina relationship, which doesn't really affect the plot in any way but at least it's something new. Katrina just shows up to stir the pot sometimes be it annoying Mike/Rachel or helping Louis somehow. She's really hot though so she's the best thing that has happened to this show. I doubt they will mention her name again now that she's gone.
Another is the Jessica/Jeff Malone relationship. At first I thought Malone was going to be a rival to Harvey in the firm, but I don't think that's the case. We'll see how it develops but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's just a good lawyer and Jessicas love interest, nothing else.
And lastly Louis and Sheilas relationship has evolved over the seasons. Bombs have been dropped that resulted in casualties, which still haven't been fixed. This is an example of real development in this show. I think she still has a part to play in this series.
This is my opinion of the show and how I see it. It's all subjective so let's agree to disagree if I haven't convinced you. Don't get me wrong though, this is still one of my favorite shows because of the excellent dialogue and characters.

I completely agree with your assessment. Basically one important person finds out about Mike per season but everything always ends up the same as before. Personally, I'm perfectly ok with it.
I like to think of Suits as the lawyer version of House. In House, you had 8 seasons of a brilliant asshole doctor being a brilliant asshole doctor. Sure, the supporting cast changed every few seasons and "House's woman" changed a few times, but it was pretty much the same thing from beginning to end. The formula worked for 8 seasons before people finally got bored of it and they brought the show to a rather unspectacular end.
I wonder how things will go for Suits. I'm hoping for a Breaking Bad type ending, where playing with fire finally catches up to Mike and everything finally explodes. I'd love to see the show end with the firm crashing down and Mike, Harvey and Jessica all getting thrown in jail. Realistically, this probably won't happen but one can certainly hope =D

Which would lead to a sequel spin-off series titled "Jumpsuits"
