No need to spoiler it anymore, already released. The 4th character was the bad guy Tarlock refereed to earlier in the episode. Probably has something to do with Amon. Was it tarlock? Or they guy Aang had to take care of 40 years before korra arrived to Republic City?
Tarrlok is younger than 40, I believe. I'm going to go on a hunch and say that Aang didn't permanently take care of the problem, leading to the guy becoming Amon. Being a pacifistic and all due to his Air Nomad upbringing.
On another note, the rage produced by shippers from this episode is delicious.
Late edit: Forgot to put my second thought that Amon might be related to the guy Aang took care of, cause of the 40 year time difference.

Nah. Amon already has his own backstory.

I actually really liked this episode. Probably because they put in two characters you know have more to them then meets the eye. But I felt it was a pretty damn good episode. Im not a fan of some of the wierd old timey music and old timey "Last on"s. But compared to where the character developments are going, and the story in general its awesome.
One thing I remember someone saying about Amon constantly letting Korra go, I actually think his reasoning fits him perfectly and actually makes some sense (isnt pride or anything lol)

Arrrrgh when will they upload to nick.com...

You can put any story, regardless of how great it is, the way you did and make it sound terrible. I thought it was a good episode
I just wanted to give Korra a hug at the end!
Edit: Oh and I know theres gonna be that guy saying "Omg the bad guy always lets the hero live because theyre cocky and dumb then regret it later." Normally Id agree with you, but Amon's operation is supposed to operate in the shadows. Korra isn't strong enough to be a threat. She can't Airbend, no Avatar state, and even her current bending is unpolished. She doesn't stand a chance 1v1 even against the normal chi-blockers. For Amon, killing/energy bending the Avatar would be hardly any gain at the moment in exchange for the huge setback of getting an gigantic target sign on his back from people much more dangerous than at-the-moment Korra.

So I just had this crazy theory. Yakon was the person who aang dealt with in the past right? It sounds sort of like a fire bender name (like Kuzon, or Sozin, but it just doesn't have a Z ). If the times line up maybe he is the firebender who killed Amon's family (and perhaps even the parents of Mako and Bolin, but that seems a little less likely)

Yeah at the moment, taking korra's bending powers away would be hurting him more than helping him.

Korra should totally call for help and get like all the world's bending masters to kick amon's ass then.

I think the 4th episode is somewhat disappointing compared to the last 3. Not much happens at the beginning except for introduction to new characters and all the really revealing stuff only happens towards the end and feels very rushed. The dialogue also kinda felt a bit forced in some instances.

Loveddddd the 4th episode. I was a little worried about Amon. I think the best part of of a story is how evil the enemy is and Amon is fuckin badass. Only complaint is the episodes are way too short!

Am I the only one who really misses the characters Ty Lee and Mai from TLA?! They were some of my favorite and most interesting story backgrounds. Not to mention their fighting styles were so dynamic and freaking awesome to watch. I really hope they bring in mirror characters like them.
4th episode was pretty good. I do hope Korra goes out from Republic City and ventures off into the world real soon. I really loved when Aang and the crew went to different places like the Mysterious Jungle Tree Forest place with the swamp and the floating air temples and all that stuff

Something I read from reddit. In the fourth episode Mako gets defensive about his scarf but someone noticed that in episode 3, Mako actually lent his scarf to Korra. Just a little a detail I thought was nice, showing who Mako really likes hehe.

Just about every Equalist knows how to chi block like Ty Lee; they might not be as acrobatic as her (which is contestable from what we've seen with the upper tier Equalist members) but they got the basics down pretty tightly. I would like more of Mai's throwing knives (like Maes Hughes from FMA), but what I've seen from Amon's lieutenant (electric powered kali sticks), I'm fine with it.
Oh and a little interesting tidbit I found on some other sites regarding Amon's namesake: + Show Spoiler +

In the flashback was it aang toph and soka? And do you think Aang dragon kicked Amon 40 years ago? Looking at amons eyes triggered a flashback of some sort. Amon did say that a firebender killed his family. Could that firebender have been Aang?

I noticed that as well when I first saw it, its why I think one of the possibilities is that his energy bending is a fake somehow. I can see Korra getting her powers taken away to only figure out how to break it. (maybe its more of a permanent seal rather then actually taking it away)
|
Single Korra had the flashback when she looked into Amon's eyes something must have happened between Aang and Amon, which conflicts the quiet life story Amon gives.

really liking this show, I loved the original avatar and so far this has been going quite well. also finding this thread made me realised that another episode came out lol

From what I remember, Legend of Korra will revolve around Republic City. Opposite of how it was with Aang; he travelled he world, Korra stayed in Republic City, Aang had to learn 3 elements, Korra is learning Air.

I suppose you could assume that Korra will learn metalbending and lightning too
in the 4th episode you get a short glimpse on Amands eyes so I guess we can rule out the theory with Koh the facestealer. Would have been nice though

I've seen the first three episodes so far... I must say I am very impressed. I love the artwork, the music, and the story.
Its so far surpassing the expectations I had for this series. Not only that I love that there are cars and motorcycles.Just a beautiful thing to watch. :o I also like how this avatar is practically the opposite of the old one, in terms of how they approach problems, and I enjoy watching the contrast in both the characters. ^^
Just my perspective so far on the series.
