Hitler did not unify Germany, you are thinking of Bismarck (Blood and Iron). I thought it was a very good episode with a well choreographed fight scene.

I'm not talking about geopolitical unification. I'm talking about economic/patriotic/... unification. Demonizing other nations under the motto of destroying the economy and suffering it brought from the first war. That's what primarily motivated Germany to relive the way they did.

Would've been better if Toph had gone "I'm the greatest earth bender to ever live!" And kicked Kuvira's ass
Yeah I'm a Toph fan
Would have brought the amazing episode to a whole new level

So if Toph knows that Lavabending is a thing people are capable of doing does that mean she can do it? I can't imagine Toph NOT being able to do any facet of Earthbending...
I as praying that she'd lavabend during the most recent episode. :d

I was talking about the checkpoint Bolin and Varrick had to pass in episode...4? 5? When they were grouped with all of those non-earth benders. There was that big wall, and they said that was the only point where they'd be able to cross over.
Which was rather silly, if you think about it, since Bolin should've been able to Earth Bend them over any kind of wall...whatever, cartoon episode logic.

They said there are guards all along the wall so the best bet was to go through the checkpoint and pretend to be still members of the army and escort "prisoners". unfortunately they already had wanted posters of bolin and varrick.

If they're so good at earthbending, why can't they move underground like moles? I'm hoping for metal benders that can swim in a sea of coins like Scrooge McDuck:

tbh, I'm happy the bending isn't too overpowered though. I think Kuvira is a very good villain in terms of personal ability. She's not overpowered but clearly very strong.

I as praying that she'd lavabend during the most recent episode. :d The fact she said it was a rare ability makes me think it's something special which not everyone can do. Genetic rather than skill-based.

Yes I remember now, my bad. And my apologies, thought you were talking about last season where they infiltrated Ba Sing Se. I guess that's all Kuvira though. It might be a way to structure things on a military level.

I think there has been some speculation that lavabending requires an earthbender to have some firebending lineage. The beifong family was very rich and reputable, and I have a hard time believing that toph had any firebender blood, so I'm gonna guess that she can't lavabend. Bolin, on the other hand, has a firebender mom.

Airbending returning had something to do with the spirit portals being reopened. Like, you could still make an argument for genetics. It's latently present, but not activated since the spiritual energy was kept from the world for so long. Since the spiritual energy has been flowing freely ever since the portals opened, so have the airbending lineages been restored.
As for lavabending, who knows. How did Toph make the fire in the swamp when Korra visited her? She might still be able to do it, but the genetics thing kind of makes sense. Also, it could be possible that at a certain earthbending level alot more possibilities open up.
|
Pretty sure they said before that the lack of Airbenders was largely caused by a decrease in spirituality and connection to the spirit world. That was from commentary before Season 1 even started.
So, really, the appearance of Airbenders in Season 3 was somewhat predictable, though maybe not quite so suddenly.

So, I never watched Legend of Korra. Did the show ended already? I'm thinking about picking it up to watch.
