Bran needs to go north of the wall, and she's a wildling.. Yeah, except who's gonna go with Rickon? He ain't leaving by himself. Wouldn't be too hard to just not kill off Maester Luwin and have him take Rickon. Good ideas here. That is exactly how it could go down.

As far as pure performance, Charles Dance's Tywin gets my vote. But of course, despicable characters don't often get award nominations.
I think it would be a great travesty if they were to cut the Reeds considering: 1. All the Reeds are badasses. 2. Assuming R+L=J is right, Howland is the only person(by extension, his children) left that can possibly know of Jon's secret. The question remains of how will Jon learn his secret?
As an aside, in my rereading, Arya is skill-less with bow & arrow.

That's assuming she was trying to hit the target? What if her intention was actually to kill Bran?

Why would Arya want to hit her brother?

I agree...although Peter Dinklage does the best job out of the main characters Charles Dance is #1 to me as far as overall performance from book to TV. If you took Tywin right out of the book he plays him EXACTLY how I'd picture him looks and all. I think the kid that plays Joffrey does an excellent job too....he's pretty much exactly how he is in the books and just as hateable

Arya hits the target during Bran's bow training, like a baws.

If the actor is good you will love him.
If the actor is great you will hate him.
Joffrey #1

Just watched the third episode and read the last few pages of this thread.
They're doing SUCH A GOOD JOB with casting. I hate how little time they get for everythign. Just as I'm realizing that Yoren is fucking awesome, he goes off and dies. Was anyone else dissapointed in that battle scene? That was one of my favorite parts of the entire series. Lorch attacking the little keep as the black brothers defend, everyone getting plenty of kills. Hot Pie yelling his awesome battle cry. I was so excited for it, hoping against hope that they'd include it somehow...
and we just get Yoren go out in a blaze of glory. =[
How did Arya learn her prayer in the books? I don't remember. It seems like they're going to skip right over the whole Tickler et al thing (no torture, etc) and go straight to Harrenhal.
As for the Reeds, I think I read somehwere that htey were going to be cast in the third season? You might be able to pull it off without them in book 2, but they're too vital the to story to copmletley cut out.
I think. :/

Jaqen taught her the prayer in the books.

nobody taught her the prayer in the books, Jaqen only gives here the iron coin and the phrase for "all men must die" which she doesn't even understand at the time and uses it on her own to end her nightly "prayers".

correct, no one taught arya how to be a cold blooded gangster praying for niggas demises, she just IS one.
as to the Reeds - those are going to be two very difficult roles to cast. its possible the producers just couldn't find two young actors they really liked, and held out on them in season two in hopes of finding the right ones.
|
Yeah she just tought herself in the books...but I loved how they added in Yoren's story. Probably my fav part of the episode. In the books we understand her mindset so the prayer just coming from her makes sense but it would look weird on TV if it just came out of nowhere.

Unless Osha goes with Bran and Maester Luwin goes with Rickon (which is plausible), I think the Reeds will come sooner or later (maybe next season), can't imagine the epic legend of Bran and the dumb giant making much sense.
I also liked Yoren's part, can't wait for the rest of the season.

I think the writers could bring the reeds in next season pretty easily. Maybe they could meet them on the way to the wall? It wouldn't make sense geographically from a book viewpoint, but they could make it work.

the only gripe i have about charles dance is that his TV version of tywin isnt completely bald
a minor detail but come on! there was even an explanation for his baldness (didnt believe in half measures -> shaved his head when he started losing his hair)

One thing that struck me is that in ACoK Amory Lorch and his group are mainly looking around for Beric and burning and foraging the Riverlands, the engagement with the Night's Watch was not planned or anything. In the TV adaptation Amory Lorch came around looking for Gendry specifically rather than looking for Beric. In fact, we've had no mention of Beric and the Brotherhood Without Banners this season. Surely they'll be introducing the Brotherhood later on, but we're missing out on all the stories of Beric having been killed all those times, and still rebelling.
|
I'm pretty sure the first mention of Dondarrion comes when Arya and co. are captured by the Mountain, which appears to have been cut from the show. I'm sure we'll hear about them in the next episode or two once Arya reaches Harranhal.
|
I thought they were mentioned (in the books) when Amory Lorch attacks them. He demands they open the gates to see if Beric is there, and then after they decline the fight breaks out. The Tickler then "questions" the remaining survivors (and random people in the riverlands) about Beric and the Brotherhood, where they are, how many of them are there, etc. Its seeing that torture that makes Arya want to kill him. Seems odd that they'll introduce the Tickler (which they kind of have to) without first giving the viewers information about the brotherhood and why Amory Lorch wants to find them.
In ACoK: Amory: "we're looking for Beric" Yoren: "he's not here" Amory: "open up" Yoren: "no" *fight* Tickler: "where's Beric?" "where's Beric?" "where's Beric?"...
In the TV show: Amory: "we're looking for Gendry" Yoren: "attack!" *fight* Tickler: "where's Beric?" "where's Beric?" "where's Beric?" ?????
wouldn't make as much sense.
