Amazing Tournament, just a share the finals were a bit of a let down. Would have been so epic with a pudge instead of the nyx pick. Huge congratulations to iG for a superb tournament!

navi vs iG in winners semis, navi vs LGD in winners finals and ehome vs orange in losers are the ones that immediately come to mind

Navi LGD in particular, one of the best series i've ever seen

I agree. Navi vs LGD was by far the best series and the highest lvl of play we saw in the tournament.

Zenith vs LGD was pretty good too but those Na'Vi games were first class.

iG / LGD in the loser's bracket finals. Game 1 was one of the highest-level games I've ever watched.

So, this may have been said somewhere in the 1100 pages previous, but is there a reason they didn't have a true double elim bracket? I don't particularly have a problem with them doing it the way they did in the end, but it strikes me as unfortunate that Na'vi gets knocked out with just the single lost series.

It would have been a bit too much, they were already doing too many games a day, wait times for players gets a bit out of hand. Also keep in mind that IG would have had a bo3 with dk, then a bo3 with lgd, then a bo5 in grand finals against navi, if they did a bo3 of bo5s with navi up 1, It would have lasted way too long. Also excitement factor, one series finals have a higher tension, similar to the reason why proleague finals is one series.

I wouldn't have minded seeing a 1-0 lead for Na'vi to start or something like that. It just doesnt feel right for me that every team except one gets a second life.

People talked about this prior to TI 2 after learning the format. It was decided that having to play continuous games was enough of a punishment for the LB team and that giving the WB finalist a further lead made the series too lop-sided.

Ah got it, makes sense. But there was a pretty big break before grand finals no?

There was a thirty minute break between the losers bracket finals and the grand finals.

Ah okay, that's not too long. Seems like a decent enough advantage for Na'vi !

Still, since I was going for Na'vi, I wouldnt have minded someone with a stick behind iG poking them in the back of the neck periodically. Seems fair, imo.

Nah; the key was the fact that they were forcing both Puppey and XBOCT out of their normal roles. Because Puppey/XBOCT's hero pool is extremely limited, when they are forced out of their normal roles they play far below their normal standard. XBOCT is of course the weakest out of Na'vi from an individual skill standpoint, so forcing him out of his normal hardcarry role is going to hurt him big time. His non-hardcarry play this tournament was pretty mediocre at best. PPY's support was ok, but it was pretty average compared to other support players.

Once they could basically cripple two of Na'vis players, all iG had to do was headhunt one of the other three, of course they chose Dendi since without escapes, Rubick is one of the easiest characters to kill when getting multi-ganked.

In the end I think they were out drafted. They let Naga siren go but enigma was banned and they didn't take the tide for themselves. They tried to do their counter strat with juggernaut, but the templar assassin and especially the keeper of the light pick threw them off. There were other 'puppey/xboct' characters left in the pool (xboct could have played faceless void, puppey had plenty of support options left), but NaVi was trying to counter strat the iG picks. I'm sure that Nyx assassin was a split second decision to 'counter' Keeper of the light (it's possible he meant for it to counter tide, but that's unlikely), but that isn't the kind of thing that will work without a ton of practice.

Well played by iG. One of the announcers pointed out that iG was going to be extremely dangerous in a best of 5, because they undoubtedly had more prepared strats for the tournament. NaVi had shown their hand with the juggernaut/enigma picks and from there iG knew what to ban. On top of that, iG realized that while NaVi knew how to play AGAINST naga siren, they weren't so good at actually using her in their team.

Great tournament to watch, still think this is right up there with MLG as the best the eSports world has to offer. Slightly disappointing grand finals, but other than that it was a pleasure to watch and be a part of :D

I think Na'Vi getting close to a 3 hour break, to eat, sleep, relax, review, and practice, while iG played another grueling bo3 before the Grand Finals is enough of an advantage for Na'Vi

I've said this numerous times.

The main arguments have been:

1. It's just a format to choose the 2 best teams and have an even finals between them. So you'd think of the full double elimination before top 2 as just means to get seeding

2. Losers bracket is disadvantageous enough with the more matches to play so it'd be unfair to have a game advantage on top of that

3. It's their tournament and they told the teams the rules in advance so they shouldn't complain

4. It's not cool to see only a 2 game finals and it'd take too long to have a Bo7 with 1 game advantage (3-6 games) so they had no choice but to make it an even Bo5 (3-5 games).
