To be fair, Secret seems to be going downhill ever since getting that third place at DAC, and their only LAN wins were with a different roster so to say that their invite isn't all that "100% secure" is hardly delusional... Empire getting an invite ahead of them wouldn't be all that crazy; I mean, Secret's current roster played in literally two lans and while their DAC performance was great, their bombing out of SL12 surely can't be dismissed so easily, given rather small sample size. Of course online matches should count for 'something' too but eh, it isn't all that clear cut, I don't think. If Red Bull LAN is played before the invites are out and Secret don't place well there either, I would be very surprised to see them getting a direct invite.

Secret has not had any LAN wins with any roster

He probably means Dotapit and the Captain's Draft tournament lol. Which are of course online tournaments, and CD is not even the same game as CM Dota 2.

I agree that Secret has had some shaky looking performances ever since DAC, but they've still won online more than other teams. I find it very difficult to place Empire above either Secret or c9 for the pure reason that Empire does not have any sort of results in tournaments with multiple top teams present. They didn't qualify for DAC, they didn't qualify for Starladder, they didn't qualify for the Summit, and I wouldn't be surprised if they lost to c9 in the ESL quals soon. Their results are from Starladder (with no Chinese teams, no EG, no c9, no Secret), from Major Allstars (placing behind iG and the next best team at the event was NiP), and from MLG (where they did beat EG of course but otherwise the event was not very high quality).

In addition, in my personal opinion results around the year should mean something even with the roster change in between. The old Secret placed well in all events they played other than Dreamleague (meaning that they had far better tournament placings than all other western teams except EG and c9), and Arteezy and Zai played for the most dominant western team for half of the season.

And even if one were to weigh recent results far more, who would take Secret's place? Empire and c9 are already getting invited, and Alliance, NiP or VP hardly have sufficient results to put them anywhere close to Secret's overall performance. Of course Secret had a bad SL performance, but the only EU teams better than them in the event were still Alliance and c9. Everyone else essentially participated in the qualifiers but didn't get through.

IMO CD tournament is the highest viewer rated tournament by far, dont undervalue that 1st place. It also shows how deep the heropools go and the prizepool is big so every team wants to win! I would not be surprised if Capt. invitiational was the first non valve tournament that breaches 1kk prizepool.

I meant they didn't even win a series on a LAN with this roster since DAC, I guess they haven't had that much time to get more opportunities to do so but that's also their own fault. It's true that even in spite of that there aren't many teams with better results than Secret recently however if anything that is not so much a reason to invite Secret but rather an argument in favor having a more robust invite / qualifier system. Giving out TI invites based on results of online qualifiers seems rather cheap, to me at least.

SL has been the only tier 1 tourney since.... 3rd place @ DAC guarantees an invite, there's nothing to argue about.

The last time an EU team won a LAN with top tier Chinese teams was TI3. Since then the only wins have been SPG.int at MLG and EG at TS1, WEC, and DAC.

Kuroky AMA:

http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/3433tk/kuroky_from_team_secret_ama/

Its such a joy to read/hear Kuro talk. Its still going.

Some interesting stuff like:

thank you very much!
We practice individually, scrim together, pretty much like any other team
We are working to really click together, I think we just need more time than others just because humans are different and we made a team out of players with rich experiences, so we need to set things straight

We are more concerned about our teamplay than individual issues, as everyone has the obligation to work on himself in their weaknesses. In this tournament Zai and Puppey had the main input, we still need to figure out what works best for us as a team. Puppey is a strong voice as a leader, it has not really worked out for us so we are switching things up, as different methods work for different teams/players

We have considered putting me on drafting, but we all talked it out yesterday and decided to let s4 do the drafting and be a captain

We all agreed that we approached the draft faulty against Alliance, so the tree ban was probably unneccesary. I am still confident, every now and then doubts arise like we all have in our lifes, but I still realize that I can only appreciate my teammates and we have to try our best at least, no matter the result in the end.

Our new director is a relaxed guy, he helped us set up a bootcamp so he has my gratitude

Team Secret will probably end up as a brand, but all plans are set after Ti5, and we never know what will happen after the season is over. The plans of Kemal, our team director, will mainly be set by then so I am not thinking about it too much right now

We are experimenting as a team, we want to learn as much as possible together and explore our options. We felt it is needed to do so because we have 5 individuals who come from rather strong backgrounds and everyone has different ideas how to play the game.
I feel Zai did not really have the chance to convey himself as a drafter, as we had issues at hand that led to a lot of interference, so I wouldn't take any judgement on his drafting capablities and see it as a team failure more than anything else

yeah anyone saying secret shouldn't be invited is actually crazy and hasn't looked at the accomplishments since TI4 list for all potential invites. 2 online first places and numerous high rankings at LANs is better than almost every other EU team since TI4.

If there was only 1 regional invite, I think there would be grounds to say that C9 deserves it more, but there's no way that you could find 3-4 other teams that deserve it more than Secret.

Kyroku AMA on reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/3433tk/kuroky_from_team_secret_ama/ going on now

He says a lot of stuff, like morale is better and they will work hard, they had some issues, etc...

He also said this "Team Secret will probably end up as a brand" :D

SPARKS_DOTA
Are you still at all in touch with Funn1k, Dendi or Xboct?

zeroKuroKy
yea, but mostly with Dendi and funn1k. We still cheer each other up when we both go through rough times!

WHAT ? they are still friends ? but people on LD told me that they hate each other !!! MADNESS

Like i said, the whole drama is on the comunity, not on the players.

Odd you say that, because he basically admitted that there was a lot of backroom drama hurting the team.

Thats from a profesional point of view, it doesnt necessarily have to do with their friendship or stuff

They could (and will) have problems as co-workers, but you dont have to bring that to your life itself, which is pretty much what some people dont get

There's a lot to argue about when we're in a situation where having a THIRD place in ONE event may be enough to warrant a TI invite... Not even saying this as criticism to Team Secret or an argument as to whether they should be invited or not, rather the scene / TI invite system as a whole.
