And rightfully so.
Also, I'd argue they've performed better than LGD and OG, and about on par with coL, so I think that they're spot is still well deserved.
I think that the invite distribution is more or less perfect.
The only change that I would have made, is that I probably would not invite Navi, and hold two EU qualifiers instead, but that's a tough call.

if anything I'd say Navi is a bit too low in the list. They've been really on fire lately and I'd put them above Alliance and probably above Col as well making col/A/LGD the weakest out of the 12 for me.
I mean they finished 11-3 in the DL league-play, miles ahead of everyone else against pretty much what is the EU qualifier (Vega, VP, No Diggity etc) while joking around with pudge picks to have some fun.

Talking as if NA is any better than SEA. NA is just as much of a joke. Let's shut them both down.
We have EG and one team that has posted middling results like Fnatic. Secret doesn't count. If Secret actually was forced to qualify in tournaments I would guarantee they would always play in EU like they traditionally have done.

So where was valve's sympathy when liquid was rekting left and right before shanghai major(even won a lan).heck Even that LGD squad deserve an invite. but since there werent as popular as na'vi,[a] ,They were left out.
if na'vi was in the place of liquid they would've got an extended invite.

They are all based in EU as well.

Why is secret na when they are in turkey? WTF? also they play in EU most of the times.
I mean anyway putting teams in regions is dumb because there's always the argument of nationality vs place they bootcamp vs server they play etc.
I mean if Secret's NA then Col's EU.
|
I mean Col lives in NA, as does secret, hence NA.
I base it on where players live, because that makes the most sense as compared to arguing over citizenship where the owner lives etc.
|
Secret players live in turkey, they have their house there, so Secret is EU then by your standards

The only way to prove that the invite distribution from Valve is unjustified is for qualified SEA team and/or NA team to beat those questionably invited teams. But what are the chances? It is as unlikely if not more as Wings suddenly get win a LAN championship. How dare those EU teams took NA and SEA spots.

seriously? people are doubting Alliance's invite? yeah their run at SL Invitational wasnt impressive, but why no one questions Secret (who did not make it out of the groupstage at ESL One Manila) and EG (who are obviously much weaker now - the game vs Vega just proved that)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that all of these teams are deserving of invites based on their performances in international competitions over the past six months, relative to the other teams in their region.

because Secret is the standing champion who gets an invite no matter what and EG made 3rd place as well as being really, really stable (prior to invites). There's no point arguing about those if that's not an invite. The invites are pretty obviously ranked by how "safe" the invite was on top of that. Again, Secret standing champion, TL 2nd place as well as decent results except for C9 curse, EG didn't fail prior to the anouncements etc and it pretty much is a PowerRanking of how deserving of a an invite a team is according to Valve.
Because again, the top 7 teams are all the teams, in that exact order, that everyone called 99% sure invites continuing with the less certain ones from spot 8 and on.
And with Vega showing a strong performance over EG today, if this goes on like that you can argue that giving an invite to teams like OG/Alliance/Navi (to stay in the same Euro-range but same applies to LGD and col imo) was too short-sighted. That's what I've been saying. What's the point of inviting so much when the patch right after invites might just scramble everything again and only god knows who's going to perform decently. Though, I certainly wouldn't single out Alliance on that.

Secret are reigning major champions, EG are reigning TI champions and both have incredibly consistent LAN histories even if you only look at post TI5.
I'll almost say that if there were only two invites these would probably be the teams to get them.

China got robbed. Hard. And as much as I am a navi fan, srsly direct invite?
Pretty sure Vavle should develop robust and transparent quota system for regions, thats not working anymore.

I still think that it is a wrong discission of Valve to invite teams that changed two players and are playing no games or performing bad afterwards. And I do not understand why DC is not getting the same treatment although they have two Major-Winners in their rosters. You can only explain that when Valve is handing invites more to the organisations than to the players actually playing. I think their should be clear guidelines how to handle rosterchanges. The healthiest one would be, that Valve demands some kind of performance after a roosterchange to justify the invite. This would force teams to plan to play at least some Dota in the period between Majors just for the case they change up. I don't get the fact that everyone counted EG in as a sure invite while DC wasn't even considered as possible invite. EG has a roster with two players who did not qualify for both Frankfurt and Shanghai, while DC has two shanghai-Winners. Alliance and OG have at least shown that they can win tournaments with their current roster. This is something that neither EG nor Secret can claim for themself.
The fact that 12 teams are invited is also very bad for the teams who played a good amount of Dota in between and will now have to battle for just one spot. The region is too close. Their are enogh teams that might be capable of beating Navi, Secret, Alliance and OG and for me the amount of invitations to normal tournaments makes it easier to get a good result for popular teams like Alliance or Navi than for teams who don't get the invites to bigger Lans. If Starladder would not have invited Navi they would not have had the chance to perform without going through a tough qualifier.
