What do you mean in a few years time?
Hall led the west in points last year. Yakupov scored 18 goals in 48 games, or 30 in 80. Eberle scored 76 in 80 a few years ago. RNH has been a 0.8 PPG player since he entered the league.
All four are already top line players on pretty well any team in the league. Yakupov still has growing pains, but he's 19.,..

Pit became a good team once they got defenders who could defend. At this rate I cant imagine the Oilers being able to find an entire defensive corps out of thin air so another year another top 3 draft pick. But I guess they got their number one draft picks all locked up at 6 million for a couple of years so there is that.

We already have a D-Core that isn't that bad. lol.
We have had only 113 shots against in 5 games, the only teams with less shots against per gameare Boston, San Jose, Saint Louis, Anaheim, LA, and Minnesota...
Pretty good company. Problem is that Dubnyk has let in three goals from outside the blueline already... His SV% is a solid .811, which is last in the league aside from a backup that got pulled in the first period and his GAA is 5.43. Just awful.
With just below average goaltending this year we are a 3-2-1 hockey club. Problem is we;ve had absolutely atrocious goaltending. Dubnyk has not made a good save all year. Not one.

@iCanada. My point about those top line guys was comparing them to PIT. The two of them were huge offensive producers, but had similar issues with defending, closing out games, and generally being young and inexperienced. While outscoring opponents is the name of the game, I think we can all agree they are unlikely to score 5 goals a game.
I don't doubt their offensive abilities, but the other aspects of the game take some time to adjust to. And Sub40 is actually kinda right, PIT had a respectable d-core when they got good. But with Smid, Schultz, Klefbom, and Nurse as the nucleus of the defense for future years, I think EDM is sitting pretty. They may well make the playoffs this year, and if they trade for/sign a #1 dman they could be a top team next year.

Its not even that. lol.
Who do you take out of the lineup right now for Yakupov?
Hall-RNH-Hemsky (Our top three scorers, and best players) Perron-Gordon-Joensuu (Been a damn solid line all around, good defensively, hard working line that have all contributed a ton) Smyth-Arcobello-Eberle (all three just came off a 3 point night in Toronto)
And while Yakupov is a better player than Gazdic-Acton-Brown, removing one of them for Yakupov does not make the Oilers a better hockey club because we dont need more skill, we need that Toughness and defensive responsibility. Secondly, it also doesn't really re-inforce why he was benched in the first place which is that he does not utilize his teammates as well as he needs to; fair enough he has been best player on his team in junior, fair enough he has been successful playing by himself in junior and even in the NHL, but last few games he just been playing by himself without Smyth or Arco at all. And they are talented players, Smyth is old and slow sure, but Eberle made him look like a 30-40 goal scorer on Saturday.
I actually dont mind Eakins being real tough on Yakupov. The kid is a gem, but he also kind of an enigma. Sometimes he goes out and railroads people like a prime Lindros, sometimes he is skating all over the ice, just dominating, and at other times he just kind of... bleh. And thats the nature of this league, if you try and play the game 1 on 1 then you will be a 50/50 player; Hockey is not about playign 1 on 1, its about paying 2 on 1. A good hockey team finds ways to make every battle a 2 on 1 for them. this is hard. This requires solid system play and buy in to that system. This requires speed. This requires you to use your teammates. Yakupov has not been doing that, and he very much could.
Eakins has said several times that if he sees the capability in someone to play to a certain level, if that level is positive and consistency is achievable then that level will be the expectation. As far as I am concerned, that is fine.
Stamkos was benched four straight games in his rookie year. Duchene was benched, Ovi has been benched, Malkin has been benched, Eberle has been benched, Hall has been benched... Eakins is the same guy that turned Kadri in a huge star from being just mediocre in the AHL after scratching him several times and then saying soime candid things to the media about his fitness levels.
Yakupov has the potential to be an absolute monster. He has size, speed, toughness, strength, puck handling ability, the hardest shot I've ever seen in the NHL (I'd say his one timer as good as Stamkos'), he has a ton of Hockey IQ as well. I really dont mind Eakins being feisty with him and trying to make him be an Ovechkin/Bure instead of a Kovalev.

It's not that uncommon and Detroit is in good position to get a win against Boston with Dan Clearly getting a goal. Who would have thunk it? `\('.')/' Now a two minute five on three. Thanks Clearly. hue. ._.

Good thing he is out there killing penalties with his heart. Fucking Babcock.

and Boston cannot hit the net hue. lol Oh God it's entertaining nonetheless.

OH MY GOD CLEARY YOU ARE AWFUL.

And quite frankly, the 4 number 1 picks yall have havent done anything for you so you wouldnt miss one.
I should have clarified. My 'second best goaltender on someone else's team' comment was direct towards what the Oilers are more likely to get in a trade, not at Ryan Miller. In which case I could adjust the statement to say "ridiculous over-payment for someone else's second best goalie or one year of Ryan Miller."
Either way, the goaltending market is pretty closed right now and anything they get will likely involve a really bad trade from their end.

Probably as part of the trade youd want him to sign a 4-5 year deal at 5m a year. Straight up Miller for Yakupov so they can re-sign Vanek by offering him a real center to play with. Everyone wins.

3-2 With 1:20 left. Lucic = trouble! Hard fought Detroit wtg.

But Yakupov plays RW.

Also, Yakupov is not the kind of kid to sit and pout for a long time. He'll get it, he is a hard working coachable kid. He has always been as such. He has an interview being taken out of context and done in his second language where he didn't communicate overly well, but he'll bounce back. I think the second scratch he has gotten it figure out before game even starts. he just did an interview with a russian reporter:

Red Wings steal one. Gustavson moves around so much the crease.

He plays way better when he`s playing a style that got him to the big dance. Yet the Leafs tried to make him a butterfly goalie with Allaire.

this is exactly why hes getting benched, dump and chase is fundamental hockey regardless of how much skill you have. he tries to do too much

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1798163-will-taylor-hall-ascend-to-superstar-status-in-2013-14-nhl-season
So, will Taylor Hall ascend to superstar status in 2013-14 NHL season? Surprisingly the answer is no, because he already has. The real question is when his superstar status will finally achieve full recognition.
To the observant eye, Hall is one of the league's fastest and most skilled players who gets the puck on his stick like a magnet, just refusing to let it go. Not only do the analytics confirm this assessment, but they also identify him as one of the league's top 10 at everything from puck possession, power-play scoring and drawing penalties.

Coaches preach a simplified game. When you try and get fancy or do too much you start making mistakes and tighten up regardless of how good you are. He better learn fast and I'm sure he'll change his tune fast.

Yup, and he knows that. He understands that. Its a loose translation. Hes getting a reset button to think about things. /shrug.
Eakins know that frustrated skilled guys start to cheat. Thats just how it works. He taking a hard line. And its good. I liek the accountability.
