prolly why the sentence began with "i guess". "sports hernia injury " is so vague its impossible to tell when recovery is... it was so urgent they waited a month before doing it.
Bernier would've been a better option, i guess that is a contributor to why Canada got knocked out in the quarters again.... mediocre goaltending ( by Scrivens own admission ).
and in the competition between Scrivens and Reimer, Scrivens got the nod.
it appears the Russian coach is suspended for the championship game against Finland for his throat-slash gesture.
"NEW YORK — Rangers coach Alain Vigneault has fired back at the Canadiens, saying there is no such thing as a gentleman’s agreement that coaches not watch the other team practice on off-days."
Vignault and Therrien are going back and forth griping and moaning. Why would there be a "gentleman's agreement" ?? There are no gentlemen in Hockey. The last game was brutal with all the cheap shots and tonight's will be just as "chippy"
If there are any gentleman in hockey its the ref's that actually make decent calls! But apparently, they aren't even around during this series. Missed called, harsh penalties... 2 mins for snowing? Come on!
So the Hab's coach needs to quit his whining ... he certainly is giving as much as he's getting.
Then if you think about this, last year during the worlds russia's roster had different players and different game plan, where they would lose more games than win Then under same coach they would fail horribly at olympics, playing (no, scratch that), desperately trying to play defensive hockey. apparently for our team the best coaching is "just let them do their thing" (which means don't put ovi and malkin in the same line). This Znarok guy probably understands this. I still carry plenty of disappointment though so unless this generation of players (the ones with the Kulemin and Voynov and Kuznetsov and Tarasenko) prove me wrong i keep being skeptical. Congrats to Tikhonov and Bobrovskiy though - these guys made me proud.
i think if Russia's best tried to trade chances with a Canadian team coached by Babcock it would be the most entertaining hockey possible.
it'd be like the 1987 Canada Cup.. or that WJHC that Russia won in Buffalo.
i think Canada would win, but it would be close and it would be the best hockey ever played.
sry, Sweden, USA, Finland, Czech Republic.
It's fascinating that before 1989 Russia's elite hockey players had never known real freedom.
Now that they have it the Russian hockey regime must deal with the unique issue of free thinking players with a lot of personal resources. These types of players are a lot more difficult to coach than a bunch of 60s, 70s, and 80s ice robots.
Until Russia pushes through these growing pains ( which Canada and USA dealt with in the 70s and 80s as NHL players signed rich contracts ) they will go through the exact same issues Team Canada went through in the 1980s.
Billy Smith and Patrick Roy were Canada's 2 best goalies in the 1980s and never played in 1 international event.
Russia faces this issue now with players of great wealth who can easily afford to have a "take it or leave it" attitude.
Michel Therrien is one stubborn SOB. He keeps playing Bourque-Briere-Vanek in the begining of every single power play. Basically the Habs waste sometimes more than a minute of their power play failing to gain the blue line.

i would do that only because i'd minimize Vanek's 5-on-5 time. and the Montreal power play for the last 6 opportunities was really dangerous.
as a caveat, i'm not in the dressing room, there could be any number of personal level things going on that i have no clue about.
Wow...CBC is ripping into Subban over that Nash goal, that Nash goal that was shot at 30mph maybe from the boards about 4 feet north of the goal line and with no traffic at all that went in 5 hole.

That puck should never ever go in. Ever. Under any circumstance.

wtf was subban doin' try to fuck with St. Louis at his offensive blue line with no one behind him.... just bad.
nice unsportsmanlike conduct call by the ref... Canadiens were diving all over the ice in Game4 as noted by CBC.

So what? It resulted in a scoring chance that is only tagged as a scoring chance because Tokarski let in a MEGA soft one. Once in the defensive zone Subban kept Nash to the outside and on his backhand. He did fine.
4-4 Now. 3 unanswered goals after that weak sauce goal by Nash. All on the goalie there

lol Subban was so lucky St. Louis didn't turn that into a break-away.
watching the Canadiens this playoffs its crystal clear why Subban played for 11 minutes in the Olympics.
the score of the best games ever played in the history of hockey is either 5-4 or 6-5.
Kelly Hrudey pwns. Great analysis on the Hot Stove.
