He was basically a shitty version of Taylor Hall drafted in 2002. He is Hall without the drive and will that makes Hall special. This is why I like how a good number of those goals were short handed. When Hitchcock coached Nash, he made him a two way forward and didn't shy away from letting him play on the PK. I don't think you'll see Hall out there much on the penalty kill, who knows - Hall is still pretty young at 22 (that and I don't watch much oilers hockey). Columbus was not blessed with three first overall picks either. Nash was a pretty polarizing player, but TJ Oshie laid him out a couple times I didn't think Nash was soft. It made me realize how good of a hitter Oshie is.

St L was also a juggernaut but they peaked too early. They definitely had the potential to go late. Just shows you the depth of the western conference.

According to you though, Miller deserved as much playing time in the Olympics as Quick. so not sure what the waffling is all about. i guess Quick is over rated in your stats world or something.

They played a tough series against a team with a lot more playoff experience and were the defending champs. That's a hard combo to overcome and they've drawn that short straw two playoffs in a row. Just advancing through the playoffs in the gauntlet that's the West is impressive.

Just advancing through the playoffs in the gauntlet that's the West is impressive. I was using LA as a reference. The year they won the cup they severely underachieved throughout the regular season until they hired Darryl Sutter. I think that is an example of a team peaking at the right time. You could see the wheels moving as they entered playoffs. St Louis was struggling down the last stretch, maybe it was the Miller move - who knows. If the playoffs started mid season, it may have been a different story. The amount of depth in both rosters is comparable. Sure they may not have had a lot of playoff experience on the team, but think about how many of the players have played in a high stakes environment. Lots of olympians on the roster and Ken Hitchcock who has coached his share of playoff games and international nail biters. Pietrangelo Bouwmeester Oshie Steen Backes Miller Shattenkirk Berglund were in the olympics and should have the mental focus and experience to put it together. What do I know, I'm not an olympian and I didn't make the show. I'm an arm chair observer.

I am still more of the mind that they are a really good team that ran into a better team, but you can't really discount that.

Wayne Gretzky, 15G 25A that year.... he was on his way to being the only player to score 20 goals in the playoffs....when he ran into ... guess who? Mr. Longevity himself.. Patrick Roy.

It would appear that more guys than Randy Carlyle are suspect of Reimer's ability. ![]() I guess Team Canada can see why Reimer lost his starting job this year. i love the "puck possession stats" zealots that act like Bowman and Tikhonov's 1960s coaching methods didn't exist until they had a stat for it. the tiny perfect commissioner was named executive of the year http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/bettman-named-sports-executive-of-the-year/ the NHL also won "league of the year" and the winter classic took home the "event of the year" award.
