This is why I think the "believe me" angle is a good one. I don't think Tim Kaine isn't going to be a great attack dog VP - which is why I felt his speech yesterday was a bit lackluster - he's just too nice. But the line of attack is solid.
I criticized Trump's acceptance speech at the RNC for too many "believe me's", heh.

Probably the most accurate assessment of the comment. While I do admire the courage/arrogance that it takes to make that kind of comment regularly, and the fact that if employed correctly has the potential to intimidate competitors on trade deals etc. it is a glass cannon that could easily backfire and cause damage to existing relationships.
The "America First" stance while great in the short term (if he actually does manage to get some great trade deals done) would necessarily erode some of the good will between countries that we have managed to accumulate over the years. He will be taking us from a country that "plays-ball" when it comes to deal making, to a country that is out for the most reward come hell or high water (at least that's my interpretation of his negotiation style and demeanor so far). This cannot last, and will make more enemies than friends.
His belief that the world needs the US, while ultimately grounded in truth, is not the exaggerated story he tells himself, and it will bite us in the ass.

Doesn't seem very intimidating if he says he wasn't serious a day later.

I've lost count of the number of time Trump defenders have had to interpret his quotes to make them less horrible. If it is so obvious, why did it take 24 hours to say? My bet is he waited to see if the reaction was negative. When it was, he backtracked like he always does.
Read the fucking tweet it has obvious sarcasm.
Unless you honestly fucking think Trump was saying the press would mightily reward Putin for this, you have to admit it was made with sarcastic intent.
This is going back to why Trump got so much support in the first place with regards to people throwing a fit over the most mundane shit
It wasn't a tweet, and there is no sarcasm on his face.
EDIT: He also goes on to say he doesn't know Putin and has never spoken to him which is a direct contradiction to his prior comments that they met a couple of times backstage on TV shows.
I think Fiorina was the one who was bullshitting about having met Putin, where did you get him saying he knows Putin?
“I got to know him very well because we were both on 60 Minutes, we were stablemates,” he said, then he seemed to reference the show’s ratings. “We did well that night.” The remark drew a rebuke from former HP head Carly Fiorina, who noted that she had met Putin “not in a green room for a show, but in a private meeting.”
But both Trump and Fiorina’s remarks weren’t entirely on the mark. Trump and Putin did not meet in a “green room” for the show, which does not have the typical off-stage waiting area for guests that a talk show has.
In fact, they weren’t even on the same continent. Trump was interviewed by CBS’s Scott Pelley in his New York City penthouse for the season premiere of the hour-long docu-series, while Charlie Rose travelled to Moscow to interview Vladimir Putin.
Also... holy crap. As I was trying to find the time stamp... I didn't realize he was was offering 50 million dollars to donate to a charity of choice to see Obama's college applications.

It's very shortsighted, he's sacrificing long term good will for short term benefits. Sure our trading partners come to the table this time and they reluctantly take a deal that is 'good for America' but less good for them. Next time we want to talk they might not even come to the table.
But that's kind of Trump's modus operandi. He screwed over many of his old investors and business partners. I'm convinced that's why he hasn't built a skyscraper or a big project in years, no one wants to finance or work with a guy with his record for screwing them over. If he were a truly, insanely successful businessman or innovator it might be worth the risk... but he's not.

So do we think that Trump has ever actually met Putin? So far he's said he has, he has, and he hasn't.
I think the first case he was stretching the truth into an outright falsehood to beef up his foreign affairs credentials. So say that you were on the same show (true) and imply that you were chatting behind the scenes (false), but never actually say that so technically you didn't tell a lie, you just omitted some pretty important facts... like that they were on separate continents (see my quote from Times).
The second one... I don't know. He might have run into Putin in Russia. Then again he might have stretched the truth again to try and show international experience and is now trying to walk back from it all because people are unhappy with how cozy he sounded with Putin. It's sort of a catch 22- either he has pretty much nothing for international experience, but was pretending to have some (most likely) or he does and thinks Putin is a swell guy... except in crowds that don't think Putin is that great a leader, then deny you ever knew the man.)

Thats the very issue with his risky politics. Throw out the meanest hits and wait till something sticks. If it doesn't then just reframe and play the victim. He did the same thing with the Abortion comment, Mulsim ban, etc.. etc..

I think you're giving him too much credit for savvy intention rather than shooting from the hip as he goes. Even if he does have savvy intention but has to walk it back so much, then other countries know that and don't take him seriously. Thus it's no longer savvy.
Also the Muslim ban is still alive and well. As is mass deportation.

Trump seems more and more the sort of guy that'll make the Reagan mic check mistake (arguably the biggest issue was that it got leaked, putting Russia on high alert), but brazenly in a public speech or on twitter. Just joking guys, please disarm.

Oh i am under no belief that he is doing this consciously lol, its all alpha male intuition driving him, but I don't think even he believes he is an alpha male (as evidenced by his extreme defensive reactions to criticism).

I'm certain it wasn't a joke, and I'm also certain he didn't mean it.

Trump seems more and more the sort of guy that'll make the Reagan mic check mistake (arguably the biggest issue was that it got leaked, putting Russia on high alert), but brazenly in a public speech or on twitter. Just joking guys, please disarm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv13ZnkpWos
That time when Reagan almost caused World War III because of a joke... that's going to be President Trump every day.
Just watched President Obama's DNC speech. My god, what an orator. What a preacher. What a boss. I said it when Michelle spoke a few days ago and I'll say it again: #1 power couple and best speakers.
