Yeah because footballers never break the rules. They never shout abuse at the camera.
They get punished if they do. Either by Fifa or their clubs.

He will be important for SC2 especially the early transition,.

In this case Idra didn't even break a rule but you could argue he acted poorly. Maybe take a game away from him in the next round.
But as I said if it was football the commentator would be fired in an instant. You can't make personal attacks live on air it's totally unprofessional.

Well it is his tournament, so he can do what he wants.
I am sure the same thing would apply to other sports, the owner of the tournament can do w/e he wants.

this thread should be about how SDM was a complete fucking idiot

Wooww, wherever Idra goes, controversy and drama follows.
Actually on a second thought, maybe Idra is good for Esports because he represents a different kind of personality than the typical oh-so-polite korean Pro-gamer, which I think is just fake and ridiculous. I mean people even give Bisu sh*t coz saying "I will win" in his interviews makes him arrogant??
Some might argue that what he did is not "professional" and degrades Esports but if you look at other sports out there, athletes are not forced to throw away their personality in order to conform to a certain stereotype. In interviews with other athletes in competitive sports, a lot of them are always dissing on their opponents and cursing.
I think having a little swag simply makes things more interesting and it makes Esports more appealing to the mass market. Maybe its an Asian thing to conform.
Just my 2 cents =P

how about from now on you just assume every game you play is gonna be broadcast and not say anything offensive? might solve some problems

Oh yeah, I remember the interview with Roger Rederer when he called everyone 'fucking skilless newbies'.

Not everyone is politically correct all the time. And it's unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that. It's easy to tell people to act mannered all the time, but it's really shows that you're not thinking about the situation and you're just labeling the other person as worse than you.

Nice first post =D
Seriously though, he didn't say anything offensive, unless you actually take ''fuck'' as being offensive and rage about hearing the word....Besides IdrA is hilarious, at least his BM's are creative and entertaining.

Oh yeah, I remember the interview with Roger Rederer when he called everyone 'fucking skilless newbies'. A certain John McEnroe once said to a ref. "You can't see as well as these fucking flowers - and they're fucking plastic."

Well someone had to rage on IdrA sooner or later, he's been BM in most tournaments. Many of you are acting as if this is the only thing he did.
Daniel might have overreacted, but there is a cultureclash+personal feelings too i guess. Daniel chose a guy to represent us foreigners and he turns out to be bad mannered most of the time, I don't think daniel likes that.

Love em or hate em, polarizing characters at least provoke emotion and spark interest.

Idra is an American, not Korean. For whatever reason Koreans want good manner whether it be for the target audience influence or a world wide stance on the Korean perspective. The problem here is Idra is not Korean. He is American. As an American, I'm sure he's going to act the way he wants and the audience will respond accordingly. Drama is no new thing for Americans, in fact it drives the views way up. People either love it, or tune in to see him be beaten so they can feel that 'dude' got what he had coming.
Personally, he's in Korea playing a game professionally. That is an awesome experience to have. Attitude has absolutely positively nothing whatsoever to do with the fact he is in Korea and he's quite good. Don't confuse that with mindset. Michael Jordan could have had the worst attitude in basketball, but he would still be the best basketball player in history. As long Idra's mindset is good and he's having a blast, he's going to get what he wanted out of this experience.
Don't express so much your opinion about him if you honestly think that your opinion is going to matter to the guy who is doing what he wants in Korea. It's not. He already made it there. What any of us think is merely branded as horse shit in the wind.
-CreeD (I am American)
Oh yea, stop feeling like he represents foreigners. That's your view, not his. He's representing himself. He's good mannered where it should be. :-)
Great VODs.

I also think its important to put this whole thing into Context.
I think SDM overreacted because he was trying to hold this whole tournament up to the standards of Korean gaming and broadcasted games, which its NOT. I agree that saying "fucking" would not be acceptable in a live TV broadcast game because there will be small kids watching and other such issues.
But in this case, this is just a amateur tournament between foreigners and its largely marketed towards foreigners too (for its audience) and thus there is no need to hold the gamers up to the standards of korean broadcast matches.
On a separate but related note, I think Korean organizations should realize that foreigners have different tastes in their TV shows and celebrities. I mean, when I go back to Japan and watch the TV there, I think its boring as fuck, they literally have 1 hour TV shows which show their celebrities eating some food and stuff, which is just dumb. But I was born and raised in america where I like my TV shows to have a little action and excitement. I mean.. look at Jerry Springer! we like to watch people beat the fk out of each other and act hella stupid coz its more entertaining.
In the context of Starcraft and progaming, Maybe koreans likes their progamers to be all polite and fake and their only way of showing personality is by dress as up women and dancing or talk about their skin n stuff but I just think thats dumb and gay. I rather see pro gamers have a little rivalry, cheese the heck out of each other, make BM ceremonies, build nexus/cc in each other's base. Which is why I liked FBH and the go.go vs BeSt thing.
This is exactly the reason why Idra still has so many fans despite of him being so BM. Coz he's brutally honest, is not afraid of saying whatever he thinks and despite of pressure from all sides to make him conform, he does not but remain true to his individuality. Maybe foreigners are simply more accepting to personalities like this rather than another cookie-cutter pro-gamer.

overanalysing inc.

I like this. I believe there should be a rule implemented to prevent vulgar remarks if it's a problem for the target audience or the hosts expectations of depicted behavior. UFC gets a lot of views.
