I think that WCG staff do not understand the game at all thats why they made that "mistake",but not on purpose, they probably thought that contemporary maps is better and even if they thought about people who practiced the old ones they cannot realize the impact from that change, I mean imagine a person who saw the game few times only, he/she won't think so in deep, but will give the most obvious solution: Bring the recent pro maps...

Then let me say you that I love this map. I got SO fucking bored of all those macro boring maps where we ALWAYS do the same shit. Bring back lotem, dire strait (Yes i'm zerg and yes i lose against protoss so what ? It doesn't change the fact that this map is just INTERESTING to play) and whatever, hell even bifrost, god i love bifrost, so many cheesy strats that were just pure fun.

Fuk macro boring python, fuk gaia and its obstacles and critter everywhere that just annoy the sh!t out of me, baek is just plain boring because we have to scout all over the maps in order to prevent any greedy bases, and its center is just painfull to play. And no i don't like them just because i lose everytime on them, in fact i've a positive ratio on all those maps, it's just that it's so boring to play nothing more.
I'll just say : stop whining.

I think that a massive hole in your argument is that maps shouldn't necessarily be interesting for the World Cyber Games, they should be balanced. Andromeda is not balanced. Troy is not balanced. Python and Blue Storm, having been played for longer, are at the point where all of the best map strategies have been discovered and play on the maps is balanced. If you want interesting, then when you play Python, if you scout him fast 9pool rather than 12hatch; it's the players' decision to play standard or non-standard, the maps should still remain as balanced as possible.

This is basically like saying "Let's make Mercury a WCG map! It's soooooo fun and completely not boring to watch Protoss players try to sneak an impossible win over Zergs!!"

Just because maps are overplayed that doesn't mean they are inherently boring.

Also, rush maps/games can be pretty lame.

There is a reason why maps became more macro oriented. It's because it game better matches for the spectators.

lol

I like the maps

my guess is that WCG Korea is gonna use the new maps so WCG decided to follow suit

and if Korean leagues use those maps, why not WCG...

They shouldn't change maps all of a sudden.
But that they want to use the new Korean maps is normal, they always did that. The whole foreigner scene always used whatever new maps the Korean scene created. And that's good, because otherwise we'd still be playing on fucking Lost Temple. We need new maps... and progamers or wannabe pros need to train for and play on whatever maps the tournament organizers choose.

Play on Lost Temple declined due to ladders such as PGT dropping it from the map pool altoghether. It had almost nothing to do with it being removed from the WCG pool.

Some people here really like talking outta their asses...

Someone mentioned WCG should make their own maps. Well, they did, in fact they ALWAYS did. The problem was they didn't change it for the past few years (not 8 as someone mentioned LOL), except for adding Peaks of Baekdu last year as a half-assed effort to make them look they care. They were also lazy to do something unique this year, so originally they scrapped half the map pool and added some popular maps, which they just shafted for the even more recent pro maps.

Imo, this isn't totally a bad thing...I mean it is BAD, LAZY, AND HALF-ASSED to change while the qualifications in some nations are already under way, BUT at least we are not playing on the same old fucking Gaia again which I bet everyone was FUCKING SICK OF. And we had to whine for 2+ years to make them change their damn map pool, let's just be happy they didn't revert to the good ol' Azalea PA Gaia wootwooooot.

Eh.
Complete the cycle!

You can't blame WCG. Troy is a Korean map.

You can only blame them for changing them.

Although I am not a top tier SC player, or someone who knows a ton about map balance aside from what I find on TLPD, I see one thing that's a problem here, and it is the fact that it was changed half-way through. As a tournament organizer myself, once I start ANY event, I stick to how it was from the beginning, unless something is completely unplayable (i.e, glitches). NonY, you pointed out that practice time isn't an issue, but it may be for some people. Some people barely squeeze in time for Starcraft between work, family, and other things in the world outside of Starcraft. And even if there is enough time to practice, it's still not right to change it midway. It's a dick move. I don't have a problem with WCG catering to Koreans in the tournament as long as its reasonable. They do, after all, set the bar for our level of play, and until foreignors start raiding the Star league ranks and winning Golden Mice, we should follow their lead. However, changing maps mid-season for them is unreasonable. You can still cater to them without screwing over the rest of the world.
You're toast, R1CH
