If there are disagreements over anything going on with the event, discuss it,don't muck it up with memes and copypasta, this is a final warning we will start handing out bans from here on out.

1. ICCup Ladder Rules where applicable. 2. If an administrator asks you to pause a game, you must pause. 3. If you disconnect from a game due to your hours running out, you forfeit the series. 4. If you disconnect/game crashes/whatever due to some other issue that is outside of your control: a. If both players agree the game was even: rematch. b. If both players agree one person had a significant advantage, win is awarded to that player. c. If no agreement can be made, you may request admin review. 5. Keep your computer area clean. Multiple trash bins line the hallway areas. There is sanitizer and paper towels at the front desk. Don't get greasy food on their stuff. We are trying to maintain a good impression and if all goes well, use this venue in the future. 6. Administrator decisions are final. 7. Don't be a dick.

Best Internet Cafe - Baishi 36-31 Prince St. Flushing, NY, 11354 Google Maps link
Yes. 2) How many computers per room, how many rooms, how much each costs, etc.?
~60 total. 40 in the general area. 15 in the high-end area. 4 in each of two private rooms.
Memberships are the recommended option for players. The way this works is, you buy a $20 membership, which gives you $23 of credit for use at the venue (they throw in $3 extra). Being a member means that you pay less per hour for computers. The prices are:
General area: $4/hour, $2/hour with membership (11 hours credit) Watercooled area: $6/hour, $4/hour with membership (5 hours credit) Private area: $10/hour, $6/hour with membership (3 hours credit)
The added perk of membership is that if we return to this venue in the future, you will already have it and can just add money to your account as necessary. If you are not planning on entering the tournament, or don’t anticipate staying long, you can forego this option, but it is heavily recommended for tournament participants to get a membership.
We will be negotiating a package deal with the venue once we have a complete head count, in an attempt to make the price distribution more even for everyone regardless of which computers they use in which area. 3) How much space can we imaginably reserve?
As much as we need, with high-end and private areas being reserved first (most likely).
4) Will there be a stream?
Yes.
5) Can we bring a CRT + consoles?
Not enough room/outlets for this.
6) a. Are there any lounge/chilling areas?
Yes, relatively small though. The general and high end areas are relatively open-air, and there is room to stand behind players to obs FPV.
b. Extra chairs available or in close proximity?
Only a few - need to source more chairs.
7) Is there a big screen TV we can stream to?
Yes, in the entrance area, where there is some standing room.
Their site seems to be buggy/I can't figure out how to check availability. Perhaps you may need to call them.

There are of course many options that are within reach by pub trans. If you have any further questions about the area you can feel free to PM me.
This is an internet cafe, so you do not need to BYOC. Location photos and details will be coming soon!
*** Check-in Time ***
Saturday, Jul 13 6:45pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Arrive early! If you are not at a computer by 2:45 PM, you will not play in the tournament.
2:00: Recommended arrival time for all tournament participants. 2:45: All tournament participants must be logged on and ready to play. 2:45-3:00: Late additions (late sign-up, walk-in, etc.) to the tournament will be assigned computers if space allows. 3:00: Beginning of first round. ~6:00: Food will be ordered. ~9:30+: Tournament ends. @Tournament end: Awards ceremony, debriefing, logistics to KBBQ/alternative eating spot. I recently found out that the KBBQ place doesn't serve food up until closing, so if the tournament runs very late, we may have to choose another eating place. Details below.
2. Bus: 15-25 minutes, including time walking to the bus stop. Q12, Q13, and Q25 busses all work, and seem to run every 20 minutes or so.
3. Uber: 10-25 minutes. You can arrange for a shared ride with other people at the venue. The recommended way of doing so is ordering UberX for ~4 people, or UberXL for 5-6 people. It will go on one person's account, and the rest can chip in with cash or buying a drink at Picnic Garden
4. Walking: ~30 minutes.
Please either post here or PM me if you wish to go so that we can make a reservation.
Please fill out the PM informing me that you wish to donate to this event and I will provide you with a link.
Matcherino takes a cut and their bracket services are not useful for an in-person event of this nature. PayPal business also takes a cut. This is the best solution. In "Additional Information" you will find examples of previous events like this that I have run and participated in.
Note: You can also donate in-person if you are attending the event!
All donations are greatly appreciated!!!
*** Additional Information ***
This event is being organized by SuGo, Tim, and myself, with preemptive on-site assistance provided by Overtime.
The NYC BW LAN community has a rich history, which you can easily find by searching for "NYC" in the search bar on TL. We have a FaceBook group. I have organized and helped run tournaments in this area in the past, such as this one. There were manyotherevents in Manhattan and Flushing in the past as well. We are hoping to reignite the passion for LAN BW in the NYC area, so we hope that you will come and play!
If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
*** Late Sign-ups ***
Pre-emptive sign-ups are now CLOSED. Anyone who attends without signing up or whilst signing up late does so knowing that they may not get a computer and will thus probably not participate in the tournament.
Please post your Battle.Net account, Race, and MMR in this thread if you plan to attend, even if just for casual games! Even though we can't promise you a computer spot, it would still be nice to know that you are coming so that we could maybe figure something out on the day of, but no promises.
Official Announcement #11: "Thank You"s + Feedback Requests!
Hello everyone!
I have so many people to thank, that to address every person individually would take up multiple screens of text. So, I would like to say thank you to everyone!
Thank you to my co-administrators and those that helped us along the way - without you, this event would not have been possible!
Thank you to the donors and sponsors! You helped make this event incredibly hype, you chose to provide us with what turned out to be much-needed and much-appreciated expense coverage, and you helped us draw people from hundreds of miles away to Flushing - all for a LAN we didn't expect to break $160 or 16 participants. Your support made this event bigger and better than we could have imagined.
Thank you to the owners, managers, and staff of the venue! Without them constantly taking the time to help us set up, answer questions, and deal with me coming there multiple times and testing multiple computers on their admin accounts, there would be no tournament, period. They gave us a great discount and refund policy (the latter of which they did of their own volition), allowed us to reserve 80% of the venue, and were willing to work with us when unexpected problems arose. The snacks and beverages were key.
Thank you to all of the photographers and videographers at the event! I expected that I would have more time to walk around and take photos, but I ended up taking only ONE at the very end of the tournament. Your presence was greatly appreciated, as was your commitment to bringing expensive gear to the venue.
Thank you to the tournament entrants, their supporters/cheerleaders/friends, and all attendees! If we ran this tournament and only Tim, SuGo, and myself showed up - we'd still have fun, but it would obviously not be even close to the fun and hype we experienced on game day. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and without each and every one of you taking the time to attend this event, it wouldn't even be worth talking about. We hope to see you again soon!
Thank you to all of the stream viewers! You demonstrated that the interest in foreign LAN BW is not limited to one's local scene. You came and supported your favorite players, asked for pictures of their butt, talked smack, added valuable commentary during the games, donated to the next tour, and overall your presence and excitement is deeply appreciated. We hope you will tune in for the next one!
Thank you to the Lucia Pizza and Picnic Garden! People brought their appetites and the food you provided was delicious. Special shout-out to Picnic Garden for running late for us and staying in contact with us as our reservation time was pushed later, and later, and later.
Thank you to TeamLiquid and its staff for helping me with behind-the-scenes stuff and allowing me to submit this event to the calendar! The visibility of this event's stream made the stream itself lively and fun.
Thank you to everyone in this thread who provided us with encouragement and feedback and kept the topic alive - the exposure as a result of this thread's activity undoubtedly helped keep the excitement levels high and allowed more people to find out about the event and attend.
Thank you everyone!
---
Now, let's talk about the future.
First and foremost, we would like to get feedback from our attendees and our stream viewers. We are committed to making the next event better for everyone involved, and we have learned a lot as a result of running this first tournament. However, your feedback will help us target specific problems we may have missed and will tell us where we should be directing our future attention and efforts. Thus, we hope that you will help us do a better job next time by filling out the appropriate questionnaires:
Now, as for the next tournament... Considering the feedback we've already received and the interest that has been expressed in having a future event, it'd be stupid not to run another one. We do not have any specific information at this time because we want to make sure we gather feedback and incorporate it into our planning. We're hoping that this will satisfy you for now: we are running another NYC BW LAN tournament, in October of 2019
1. Check in with an administrator (Jealous, Tim, SuGo - whoever is by the entrance of the venue). a. Early sign-ups: If you are participating in the tournament, buy-in. (5$) b. If you would like pizza delivery, throw in. (5$) c. Receive name tag - use the same name as you will use in-game. You can write your real name as well, if you wish. d. Early sign-ups: Get assigned a computer.
2. Register for membership at the front desk, or pay for hours up front. All reserved computers, regardless of where they are in the venue, are $3 per hour. This equates to 7 hours and 40 minutes of play time for a $20 membership. All tournament participants are heavily encouraged to buy a membership, as this means your time will not run out mid-game.
3. If you are participating in the tournament, it is recommended that you set up your peripherals, make sure everything is in order, and then you are free to do whatever you want until 2:45. At 2:45, you are expected to be set up and ready to go. Tournament matches will start by 3:00 PM.
4. If you are not participating in the tournament and you signed up early, once you have received your computer assignment, you are free to do whatever.
5. If you are not an early sign-up and wish to participate in the tournament, don't go too far. At 2:45, we will assess how many people we have, how many computers are available, etc. and then we will start filling in tournament slots as space allows. Order of priority is in order of sign-ups on the thread, followed by order of arrival at the venue. Reminder: there is NO guarantee that people who didn't sign up early will get to participate in the tournament. Do NOT take an unreserved computer spot unless told to do so at this point.
6. If you have any questions or concerns during the event, find an admin. We will all be sitting in designated areas. See lay-out below. Note: Try to not interrupt games, or stream, whenever possible. If all three of us are busy, then choose an admin that is casting over an admin that is playing.
If you have any technical/language questions or concerns during the event, find a staff member from the venue.
7. We will be using Challonge for the bracket. Challonge link will be posted here once it is filled out. This is where you will be uploading your replays. We will be helping people find their opponent at the venue as well. Please refer to the seating chart below if necessary.
8. As people leave/decide they no longer want to play, please inform the administrators. As vacancies appear, we will be decreasing the reserved area to allow for more walk-in customers to use the facility. This will require shuffling people around - in other words, expect that after some time, you may have to change computers, particularly if you are in the general area.
Unfortunately, the operating system on the machines is entirely in Chinese. However, I have made a guide for how to start StarCraft/open your replay folder:
Tournament Rules

Note: Admin names are in yellow/orange. Overtime may not be attending the event.
Other Announcements
1. I would like to give a big shout-out to Disregard, who will be contributing a classic Team Liquid shirt to the 3rd place finalist!
2. I would also like to give another huge shout-out to the secret organization "Revival of Brood War" who have upped their total contribution to $740, making the total prize pool a total of...
$1172 + Buy-Ins!
Revival of Brood War's willingness to shoulder some of the administrative expenses has been a huge help!
3. This announcement has been delayed by some inner workings but as of Monday, all future donations (that are not done on-site or that have not been discussed prior) will be going to the next tournament. This is simply due to logistics constraints, but it doesn't hurt to spread the love out over a longer period of time and over multiple iterations! We are committed to making these tournaments a regular occurrence, and any donations you make from this day forward will be going towards that and are as always greatly appreciated.
4. There are snacks available at the venue. I tried some sort of vegeterian jerky-like food and it was really tasty, but it made my fingers smell weird for a while. The herbal drink they had in the fridge was really refreshing too. Can't vouch for any of the other stuff because I've never seen it before but the staff will gladly help you make decisions. They also have instant ramen that they will heat up for you. Here are some photos of the snack selection:
5. The back-up dining location is Congee Village, which is across the street and down the block from the venue. This is just in case the tournament ends late and we are not going to make it to KBBQ in time.
I went there last weekend and the food was pretty good, the bartender was friendly, and it had a pretty nice atmosphere. Here are some photos:
Bar area (Jim, the friendly bartender, is hiding behind a tree)
Phew, that was a LOT of stuff. We're excited to see all of you on Saturday, and for those that can't make it, be sure to catch the stream!
GLHF!~
EDIT: If you are taking pub trans, the LIRR is faster by ~10-15 minutes but costs four times as much ($2.75 vs. $11) and is otherwise not any better than the 7 train in terms of drop-off location. Using the 7 train is recommended.
Chessz has generously donated $125 to the event, $100 of which will be going to the prize pool and $25 which will be going to cover expenses (which is very much appreciated <3). This raises the total prize pool to...
$1272 + Buy-ins!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, and I would like to remind everyone that any future donations - whether they happen throughout the tournament stream or outside of it, will all be going to the next tournament!
I would also like to note that I added another number to the Tournament Procedures, which I forgot to put in last night. Here it is:
"8. As people leave/decide they no longer want to play, please inform the administrators. As vacancies appear, we will be decreasing the reserved area to allow for more walk-in customers to use the facility. This will require shuffling people around - in other words, expect that after some time, you may have to change computers, particularly if you are in the general area."
Official Announcement #9! A secret organization named...
"Revival of Brood War"
has generously donated $640!
Out of this sum, 80%, or $512 will be added to the prize pool, bringing us to a total of...
$1092 for the prize pool!
As per the donor's specifications, 20% will be used to cover organizational expenses for TOs and members of Revival of Brood War - such as transportation expenses during the location scouting process (NOT our expenses as individual players/participants), equipment rental, etc. The main organizer of RoBW is interested in fostering a maintainable level of commitment for this and future events, hence providing us with expense coverage. If there are any funds from the 20% remaining after this, it will be invested into providing food during the event.
I just want to be clear about this: We are still an entirely non-profit venture.
All of the money that we receive from donors and contributors is going into the prize pool unless otherwise specified by the donor. The other options are that they cover necessary expenses, or are re-invested into the event in one way or another.
This is now officially one of the biggest BW tournaments with one of the highest prize pools in NYC of all time ... and certainly within the past 10+ years.
Please either post here or PM me if you wish to go so that we can make a reservation.
The deadline for reserving a spot is June 29th.
Just post something like "sign me up for KBBQ."
We will be making a reservation for 10:30 PM. This is in anticipation of the tournament lasting about 6.5 hours, and then allowing an hour for debriefing and getting to Picnic Garden. The buffet closes at 1 AM.
There are tables accommodating 12 or 8 people. We will decide which combination of tables (2 x 8? 3 x 12?) we will be reserving once we get a final head count.
Keep in mind that this is 1.3 miles from the LAN venue.
These are the transportation options and estimated duration for each:
As the tournament progresses, we will have a better idea of whether or not that reservation is a realistic time for us or whether we need to move it. This time is thus subject to change in either direction by ~1 hour.
1. We have received an anonymous $20 donation! A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, you can remain mysterious if you like but we will still say thank you, and you know who you are <3
This brings us to a total of $580 + Buy-ins for the tournament prize pool!
2. Pre-sign-ups are officially CLOSED!
We have a total of 49 attendees of which at least 36 signed up as competitors for the tournament! I am pretty sure this is the largest turn-out we have ever seen in a grassroots NYC BW LAN! Thank you all for your interest and for signing up ahead of time. You will all be guaranteed computer spots at the venue! Now begins the process of negotiating price and which areas we will be reserving. Stay tuned for updates!
1. We have received a $10 donation from an anonymous D rank Terran from California! He said that he hopes we run the best tournament ever, that Brood War is the best ever. We'll do our best!
This brings us to $560 + Buy-ins for the tour!
2. We have decided on two formats for the tournament.
Looking at the current number of sign-ups, it seems almost certain that we will have more than 32 players in the tournament. However, we want to be prepared for all possibilities; here are the 32-and-under and over 32 player formats:
Bo3 MSL Groups. Both players veto two maps in turns. Rock-paper-scissors to determine veto order.
A: Player 1 <vs> Player 2 B: Player 3 <vs> Player 4 C: Winner A <vs> Winner B D: Loser A <vs> Loser B E: Loser C <vs> Winner D
Winner C: Seed 1 Winner E: Seed 2
If under 32 players, some groups will be Round Robin Bo3:
A: Player 1 vs. Player 2 B: Player 1 vs. Player 3 C: Player 2 vs. Player 3
Match wins -> Map wins = Seeding, to avoid tie-breakers. If tie-breakers are still needed (Player 1 2-0 Player 2, Player 2 2-0 Player 3, Player 3 2-0 Player 1, for example), Bo1 round robin. If tied again, shortest replay times for winner advances. Both players veto two maps in turns. Rock-paper-scissors to determine veto order.
Top map score: Seed 1 2nd map score: Seed 2
Ro16 format follows:
Top bracket: Group A Seed 1 vs. Group E Seed 2 Group B Seed 1 vs. Group F Seed 2 Group C Seed 1 vs. Group G Seed 2 Group D Seed 1 vs. Group H Seed 2 --- Bottom bracket: Group E Seed 1 vs. Group A Seed 2 Group F Seed 1 vs. Group B Seed 2 Group G Seed 1 vs. Group C Seed 2 Group H Seed 1 vs. Group D Seed 2
1. Due to the unexpectedly high level of interest and the approaching deadline for submitting an accurate head count, we have decided to make a guaranteed placement deadline. What this means is, people who sign up before June 14th are guaranteed a computer and space in the venue. Anyone who signs up after this date will possibly have to play in the unreserved space at the venue, if it is available. Just to be clear, everyone who has already signed up in the thread or contacted me via Discord/Facebook is assured a spot.
2. Venue updates! Be sure to read the FAQ. If you have any additional questions, feel free to post them here.
Yes. 2) How many computers per room, how many rooms, how much each costs, etc.?
~60 total. 40 in the general area. 15 in the high-end area. 4 in each of two private rooms.

Yes, in the entrance area, where there is some standing room.
8) Can people bring their own peripherals?
Yes.
10) Can people bring other games on USB sticks?
Yes.
3. I would like to give a huge shout out to Overtime who met me at the venue and then drove us to the planned KBBQ location. Stay tuned for more updates on that.
I also want to give a shout out to ZoW and Zergneedsfood who were in the area and stopped by the venue to meet up with us briefly. Was great seeing you guys again, looking forward to spending more time with you at the event!
We have received a $100 donation from an NYC LAN veteran and perpetual homeboy, Fazers!
This brings us to a total of $550 + Buy-ins!
Keep in mind that even if you can't throw in sums on the level of these generous donors, any donation is greatly appreciated, and will earn a shout-out not only in the thread but during the tournament and on stream (assuming we have one)! There is no contribution too small <3
That being said, things are certainly continuing to heat up. I'm very excited to see the direction this is going! Are you?
Thanks in large part to the hard work, dedication, and love for Brood War of Rus_Brain, we have come to an easy and pleasant agreement of terms with eSport.fund and have secured this sponsorship for our prize pool. We are proud to add their logo to our banner. Every cent of their contribution will be going directly into the pool, which means...
With SuGo's $100, the Anonymous Protoss Player's $150, and now eSport.fund's $200, we have a grand total of...
2. Map pool has been decided! The format of the tournament is still a bit up in the air because it depends heavily on how many computers will be reserved and how many players will sign up, but in the meantime I thought it'd be nice for you guys to know ahead of time and start practicing on the maps:
4 Player: Fighting Spirit, Circuit Breaker, Python, In the Way of an Eddy 3 Player: Longinus, Sylphid 2 Player: Crossing Field
This is awesome, cant believe it took me so long to find this. I haven't been on this site in a while but I'm glad I came across it. I'll join and donate.
Of course its worth it. Even if you stand no realistic chance of winning its still gonna be a fun experience to play in the event. That being said, there's a wide range of skill level in the signups already, so you'll fit in just fine
I am really young / don't want to drive / am underage / don't want to party. Should I come? Yes. I am bad at StarCraft. Should I come? Yes. I don't know many people from the TL community / am really shy. Should I come? Yes. Can I bring a friend? Yes. I have a really cute Asian girlfriend / sister / friend. Should I bring her? Yes. I am free to come, but for the above reasons I will pretend to be busy. Will I be banned from TeamLiquid? Yes.
My B1/B2 expired, and US visa is very slow to get from US Embassy in Moscow now, so I kindly ask to book a place. I'll try to arrange the interview and stuff, but don't judge me hard, if I miss that. nvm, lol + Show Spoiler +

If all goes well, we will be running more of these in the future, so I hope you can get it for the next one or maybe the one after that Would be a pleasure to meet you!

When this inevitably becomes one of the best LANs of all time, we will probably begin planning a second installment, and will try to give a bit more forward notice!

It isn't a NYC LAN without this obligatory FAQ lol :D

The format of the tournament is still a bit up in the air because it depends heavily on how many computers will be reserved and how many players will sign up, but in the meantime I thought it'd be nice for you guys to know ahead of time and start practicing on the maps:
4 Player: Fighting Spirit, Circuit Breaker, Python, In the Way of an Eddy 3 Player: Longinus, Sylphid 2 Player: Crossing Field

You should be fine to do that actually, even if you're only used to 1.16. SCR has an option for pillar-box / emulate the old 1.16 look and feel. So likely, you won't notice a difference. You don't really 'need' an MMR to enter or not, we just wanted to see what range of skill will be participating. Maybe you have an Iccup rank?

Does anyone else in the NYC area want to poster random lampposts for this tournament?
Tournament organizers / BW enthusiasts, what kind of resources do you need? I've been starting to create spreadsheets to see how to rebuild this community, and figure I'm reinventing parts of the wheel.
Ok, sadly iccup ranks have become largely meaningless :D but about A- 1x1 and A+ 2x2. I thought I had heard about SC:R emulating 1.16 it's good to have confirmation because even the slightest changes can ruin your gameplay as everyone knows lol. I'm only around 2 hours from this event so likely will attend. EDIT: Oh yea I'm protoss if you couldn't tell by my nick or simple vocabulary.

I love the enthusiasm! I don't know what that link is unless I make an account so could you possibly elaborate?
It's a "new kind of spreadsheet" for organizing events, projects, etc. I find it more effective than a bunch of Google spreadsheets for developing some level of institutional knowledge. I'm using it to plan my wedding!

I see. I don't think anything like this exists as of now!
One thing that I think would be the most useful at this juncture, particularly for the NYC area, is having a list of venues that we can choose from. In particular, those that are open to the public, where it is located/proximity to pub trans, how many computers in how many rooms, what the going rate is (for net cafes), pictures and notes on the location (has AC or doesn't), etc. Selecting a location from NJ is difficult without actually going to the location, and people who are local to NY may have a lot more knowledge or at the very least easy access to such things. I think that is what would be most helpful going forward from the administrative end for events such as this one.

If I know you personally enough to be your best friend, I may be able to wing a couch. Fiance is a SC player but not into strangers.
The current plan is for casting to be done on the fly basically. Whoever is around and not playing, switching off hot-seat like, etc. If one of the old boys from Jerzey gets knocked out, they will run casting, that's the agreement. Until then, first come first serve unless we hear you're goofin' hard.
This is all, again, IF we manage to set up decent streaming. The chances are high but you never know. Worst case scenario I'll bring my laptop, if they let me.
There are some things in the works that will require us to pay a little more attention to how streaming is set up so it will absolutely have to be our way in that regard. However, this is good news, I promise Stay tuned.

Never put faith in me when it comes to a tournament. But yea I'm trying to figure out just for general knowledge what "1800" means in some terms I might know. I know top koreans are around 3k, top foreigners around 2300 but below that I don't know what any numbers mean. Currently when I hear MMR talked about like in KSL qualifiers I'm clueless.

The fact that there's so much interest and people willing to go to these things on their own dime is a good sign for the game.

To be 100% honest we did not expect this amount of attention and interest from people far away from NYC, so we thought that one and a half month forward notice would be sufficient, particularly for people the area. We were even considering less than a month's notice (June 22nd or June 29th, announced on May 31st), but now we know better Live and learn. The way things are going right now, I think that a second installment is highly likely and we will definitely announce it as much ahead of time as possible. Hope to see you then!

We had them back in 2009-2012. I don't think then, or now, we cared about some global level of hype or overarching revival or anything like that, or at the very least that was not our main prerogative. We just wanna LAN with friends and have fun, and we want to do it more often than we have over the past few years (almost never).
Anyone been to this internet cafe recently? Strange stuff on google about it (no air conditioning, computers only in Chinese, new name "One Hundred Internet Cafe") ? I'm sure people have done more homework on it than my 5 minutes of googling but I thought I'd mention it.

I'm going there this weekend to make sure that everything is proper. This location was suggested by someone in the BW community who knows the owner tangentially. Having spoken with the owner over the course of a few weeks and seen some photos, I know that there IS a room with air conditioning, that there should be enough computers there for the anticipated turn-out, and that it should be accessible to anyone.
However, if I go there and find that the location is not up to par, we WILL change the location. We don't really want to, but if it's necessary, then it's necessary, no questions asked. This weekend I will also be looking at other venues in the area, as well as the proposed KBBQ location. Even if we change location, it will be within a mile or so of this one, so it shouldn't be much extra hassle.
Part of the reason why we did this pre-sign-up and announced over a month in advance is so that we would have time to adjust things as necessary depending on the turn-out. Either way, expect updates as to location, including photos and summary, by the end of this weekend.

Definitely not at the same time and place from what I currently know about the venue. That is a question/situation better suited for the SC2 forum and for someone else to organize! It's not on our to-do list. Hope you guys can figure something out! I remember there were BIG crews rolling through Cybercraft back in the day.

We will try! Not sure what Homestory cup format is, but we will naturally have a more... lax? set-up as far as casting goes, with casters rotating and such. I can't make any promises as of right now, though.

I don't think that broadcast quality would be the issue! We simply don't yet know if their computers have streamer software, if we have a lot of flexibility with the software, if we can bring our own streaming computer, etc. On top of that, we don't have any dedicated casters coming - our plan was just to have whoever wants to cast to hop on, and if one of the organizers gets knocked out of the tournament, they will take over casting. So, it's hard to structure specific things for the broadcast if we don't even know who will be casting when and such The format of the cast is not our top priority, but we will think more concretely about it once we have the groundwork established. I can almost assure you that if there is consistent casting, it will be a different atmosphere from most tournament broadcasts, because there will be 30+ people around, people switching in and out, getting to know each other, having fun! It probably won't be "serious" casting until we get to the moneyed matches, I'm guessing.

Age group is, from what I can tell, ~20 to early 30s, mostly gravitating toward late 20s. Age shouldn't matter though ^^; Hope to see you there.

Are you?

1. Bringing your own peripherals should be fine, I will be able to tell you for sure by the end of the weekend.
2. The rules are going to be posted soon, but a little bit of a spoiler in that regard since you asked: as long as your opponent knows your race at the start of the match, you can pick any race you want, switch race whenever you want, go random and shout, whatever. The only thing that matters is that your opponent knows your race at the start of the game.
3. The event will absolutely only last one day, and will be finished on the day of. This is a 24 hour venue, although we don't anticipate needing that much time to see it through.
so my consideration of going has raised a bit, besides the buy-in..how much or do we have to pay to use off tournament LAN play? Lets say somebody plays, loses quickly...but wants to hang around for end of tournament or just a little more. Is there some options for that player to have besides observe?

The cost for the computers is constant, the buy-in is only for the tournament pool. The rates that are on location are $2, 4, and 6/hour depending on which room you are in, but I will have more details concerning that soon. In theory, once you are at a computer, you can keep using it as long as you like for whatever you like once you drop out of the tournament. In the past, people who have been knocked out of the tournament or didn't even enter the tournament simply play side games like 3v3 BGH, UMS, or WC3, LoL, DotA, etc. It's up to you! We are also thinking of setting up a CRT with a Wii (Melee) and/or N64 (Pokemon Puzzle League, Mario Kart, etc.) that will be free of charge to play, but I will only be able to find out this weekend if this is an option.

Memberships are the recommended option for players. The way this works is, you buy a $20 membership, which gives you $23 of credit for use at the venue (they throw in $3 extra). Being a member means that you pay less per hour for computers. The prices are:
General area: $4/hour, $2/hour with membership (11 hours credit) Watercooled area: $8/hour, $4/hour with membership (5 hours credit) Private area: $10/hour, $6/hour with membership (3 hours credit)
I totally meant to post this before, but I'm in. I only didn't insta respond because I needed to get my July Schedule since I work one random Saturday per month and needed to know if I was going to play, or just kinda roll in when I can after work. Since I'm confirmed off, I'm officially in to basically hand someone a bye into the second round.
Huge thanks for organazing this, Fana, I'm hyped as fuck

You're not allowed to attend this tournament, funnybananaman, due to your history of harassing Brood War community members' families. If you show up, you will be turned away at the door, so save us all the time and effort.
Is there some where I can find the back story on this? That's pretty insane..
I would rather not discuss this here, especially not the specifics, so please satisfy yourself with the information in this thread:

Fk Kibibit man, I hope I meet you in the first round. I don't plan on handing anyone a bye but it is the most likely scenario given my current abilities.
On June 10 2019 12:29 StorrZerg wrote: If i come, where can I crash?
Since this seems to be a growing concern for multiple people with no forthcoming solutions (NYC people's living spaces are small and often shared, and other people live far away from the venue), I will be adding information about housing options that are local to the area soon. There are two hotels that are right by the venue, for example. It's not ideal, but unfortunately it's the best that I can do unless someone comes forward with a couch.
Ultimately, I think that with the regularity of public transport in the area, people coming from far away may have to consider sleeping on a red-eye bus/train or I guess in their car? Like I said, sadly not ideal, but there's nothing I can do. Hell, I've slept while sitting in the waiting area in Penn Station numerous times myself lol.
(PS Sorry I can't pay back the favor for letting me crash at your place Storr, my living situation doesn't really allow for guests and such)
I've looked into some rooms in the area. I'll be listing prices as they appear when booking directly from the location - if you use services like Booking.com or whatnot, you might be able to find other options or cheaper deals, but this is just to get you started.
1. Asiatic Hotel 135-21 37th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11354
Are people really coming from so far away that they can't realistically drive home after or just spending the night as part of the fun? I'm planning to just drive home and I figured I was one of the furthest away from this (google says about 2.5hrs). Not trying to pay NY rates to stay at a hotel or take my chances with the cops/desperate junkies sleeping on a NY street :D

I mean, if people are asking, then that must mean the answer is yes? ^^
Sorry, was posing that question as an either/or but duh yea I guess it can be both reasons to stay among different people lol. They say ignorance is bliss but it's difficult being dumb sometimes as you can see.
On June 11 2019 01:17 yellowsmile wrote: when will the bracket be determined, pick up randomly in the LAN? also what is the game format, group/single elimination/double elimination?
Probably going to depend on how many players we have to make sure the format doesn't result in a 48 hour long tournament or something. ASL8 format would be cool as shit but I think we're already at too many players for that many games. The organizers have mentioned that players won't be one-and-done so I'm assuming some kind of winners/losers bracket system with bo1 matches or a standard bracket with bo3's? Maybe Jealous has more info but it's early.
On June 11 2019 01:17 yellowsmile wrote: when will the bracket be determined, pick up randomly in the LAN? also what is the game format, group/single elimination/double elimination?
Bracket will be determined on the day of, no point in making a bracket ahead of time when some people might not show up/might not be on time/etc.
The format will depend on how many people are going to be in the tournament. We have two formats already in mind, one for under 32 competitors, one for over 32 competitors. More information on that will be made public at a later time.
As I said before, I don't really play anymore. I will have a month I guess to prepare but dunno how much time I should invest lol. Going mostly for fun~

Also it was a small tour 8 famous players and everyone in Admin team was all like FBH is the star. Besides the stream, I will make sure to take as many photos as I can (and as people are comfortable with, haha). It won't go undocumented and I'm sure people will voice their opinions here, both good and bad, about how the event went. I encourage everyone to do so because there could be valuable lessons therein, or equally valuable good feels which is what I hope to get from running this event more than anything else like popularity or profit. Any advice you may have about running a tournament from your experience is of course also appreciated!
Changing my MMR: 1750. Hit a new milestone in laddering. Dunno if this changes how I'll be seeded or entered into the pool, but just thought everyone should know.

You're right. I'll bring vodka.
I spoke with the manager of the venue and they said they don't want us to bring alcohol to the venue, but if you have it in a flask or something then I doubt anyone will mind or say anything. Just don't get obnoxious drunk - that seemed to be their biggest concern.
That vodka bottle WOULD be more welcome/timely at the KBBQ after the event. More details on that coming soon.

Yeah if I wouldve been able to come to NYC, I wouldve defenetely rent a flat near the event. You can find a decent apartment 3 days for the same prise as one night at hotel.

I’m thinking a Faust vs. Nahyunjung in round 1 of the tourney. The two NYC lan juggernauts going at it to start the day.
I'm a lifelong new yorker and lived and worked in flushing for a long time.
Just wanted to say, if youre looking for a cheap place to stay, watch out for bedbugs. Bedbugs arent uncommon in NYC, and Flushing in particular since it's densely populated and full of immigrants. the competitively priced hotels in queens (and the bronx) like Ramada and Flushing Hotel are notorious for sometimes having bedbugs lol.
same goes for airbnbs.
chances are you wont run into them but just be alert

It's possible if they find space outside of the reserved area to play in, which at this point I wouldn't put my hopes on. Every competitor must be at a computer at 2:45 PM whether they pre-sign up or not, whether they play in the reserved area or not.
Why do you ask? Got someone in mind? Tell them to sign up.
kinda wondering how organized it may run, its been a very long time since ive been to a LAN..apparently im usually not prepared for these things nowadays. I would think everybody will be there a good amount of time before 2:45...I assume also people are more organized then back then. I think it will be fine, just hope there is no confusion for people who come closer to the start time.
I am literally going to cry at this event. I am so happy right now. Will be going out of town to Portugal for a week and offline but I love bumping this thread and peer pressuring all my old teammates to come. See y'all June 24th, hope this blows up even more.
I just want to see all of y'alls faces, to see the casuals and the competitives, having fun. I'm so excited to eat Korean BBQ together again, and share old war stories. I'm so excited to WATCH some epic games!!! Look at this talent coming out of the woodwork!!! WHY ARE YOUR MMRs SO DAMN HIGH. I'm excited to play, give it 120%, and cry if I lose and cheer if I win, knowing that I can always get better with hard work.

It's very simple. If you're not checked in and at a computer at 2:45, then you don't play in the tournament. It's been in the OP since day 1. If people are confused, that's on them - there will be no confusion on our end.

Yongyuhogu MMR 1700? Protoss
Thanks
I've already relayed our reservation information to the venue management, so if he wants to come he is more than welcome to but there is no guarantee that he will get a computer to participate in the tournament. I'll put him at the top of first come first serve for extra slots, though.
As the tournament progresses, we will have a better idea of whether or not that reservation is a realistic time for us or whether we need to move it. This time is thus subject to change in either direction by ~1 hour.

You bringing your own PC is out of the question from what I gathered. Your participation is limited by your sign up date, which I had made abundantly clear.

1. We have no plans whatsoever for anything SC2-related.
2. If you missed the reservation deadline for the tournament, you are more than welcome to just show up as an observer and maybe snag an open computer to play pick-up games and what not.
3. Everyone is free to attend the KBBQ, provided they make a post saying they are interested in reserving a spot by the 29th. After that, like the tournament, it's just a crap shoot as to whether or not you will get in.

Hey Chobo, is it true that you banned Ty2 over some minor CPL disagreement you guys had about how the players should be coached? Because that is what multiple people have told me.

If it is true, then that's stupid as fuck.
That's not the whole story and it's not worth discussing here. Ty2 and I agreed to just not talk about it and stay out of each other's hair so it would be great if you could respect that and not push for drama over things you heard through the grapevine.

Banning a key figure in small scene like foreign brood war over personal disagreement seems petty when organizing a local community event you are planning to do over and over again

Yah, it is really petty and I would like for you to reconsider the ban. I'd love to go to the NYC LAN to hang out and play with people in a community I've dedicated a lot of my time and effort into.

What you did, on numerous occasions, was actively malicious and resulted in the loss of hours of work. I am not interested in having you benefit from any of my future efforts after the way my work was treated by you. If you are the one spreading rumors that it was "just a minor misunderstanding" then you are clearly presenting a very limited and self-favoring perspective of the situation. I was doing you a favor, at the behest of lazersnipe, to keep this under wraps so that it doesn't cause undue drama but if you're going to be trying to cause issues I have no problem explaining the full reason for your ban.
I don't think it's a mystery why out of nowhere, a bunch of people show up trying to discuss your potential participation in this tournament, which basically means you went back on your end of the agreement we reached not a week ago - which is completely in character, I guess. The decision is final and will not be changed, no matter how many people you convince of your innocence with your subjective and biased recounting of what happened.

I'm saying I banned a snake from benefiting from my hard work after he had directly sabotaged my work in the past. His skill level was never a factor in consideration - it is entirely separate and unrelated to what transpired. Similar to how FBM was banned for harassing community member families, Ty2 was banned for malicious behavior.

It's very simple, a person sabotaged my and my team's work, I am not going to let him benefit from any of my future projects. It's cause and effect, no need for emotions to enter the equation.

What did I do that "was actively malicious and resulted in the loss of hours of work"? If it's the CPL thing I already apologized and tried my best to repair things, and frankly I think you overreacted and blew it way out of proportion. On top of that I think it's definitely vindictive and petty of you to be banning me from the NYC LAN.
The real story is that they were both so passionate in getting me to S rank that their disagreements over how to coach me ended in the disintegration of their friendship, and a never-healing rift to be created in the community. I'm so powerful that my mere presence ends in destruction, wherever I wander.

I'm not going to waste my time explaining to you what you already know. Your apologies are irrelevant after a certain point - the cycle of doing or saying something shitty, then apologizing, then doing or saying something shitty, then apologizing, has watered down their value. I am frankly uninterested in whether you believe it's petty or vindictive. I don't want to have anything more to do with you, and you will not benefit from any of my future work in the BW community - that is final.

I appreciate the sentiment but please let's not escalate things. There is not going to be any violence at the event, and there never will be, no matter the circumstance.
Ty2 is one of the kindest people in the community and one of the best players on the continent. I know you don't like him very much personally, but this is one of the weakest moves by a tournament organizer I can imagine. Please consider talking to Ty2 and forgiving him for whatever he did to you in the past and move on. You've also been given a lot of second chances, Jealous, so why not be the bigger person here and let him come?

There was a 2 week sign-up period with the importance of signing up early being made public on May 31st. The event was also posted in all of the major foreign BW Discords, and unfortunately space is limited. Your chances of getting a computer are not high - we have reserved 50 computers out of ~60 available, and on Saturdays they have an attendance of ~20-30 people. It's unfortunate but a reality of life that there are deadlines for reservations, that there are not many venues with more than 60 computers that we are aware of. We made every attempt to put out the word about this tournament in as many places as possible. I'm sorry that you did not find out about it sooner, but there will always be next time.

Unfortunately no, but there is nothing stopping you (except the law, I guess)* from doing so in your car or somewhere out and about on the town. It's been done before. Just don't come in fully incapacitated and everything will be fine.
Hmm, I'll be honest, this really feels like MMR profiling. I bet if I was a lower MMR you'd let me in just fine, I know this was an issue in previous LANs but I thought by 2019 we'd be over this shit and we could all compete together as equals. I've had Korean friends before that were victims of MMR profiling for similar events but I never thought it'd happen to me, I just hope eventually your tournament can overcome this prejudice sometime soon.

First you ban Ty2, then you actively avoid telling Models about the deadline so he'd miss it... I guess this event has no competitive integrity whatsoever, huh?

Why not call / email the cafe and try to make a private reservation?

Someone else posted about the fact that their friend missed the sign up and that they are ~1700 MMR, and my response was essentially the same to them - that the chances are slim. If you want to feel persecuted, that's on you. The fact remains that people who sign up after the deadline don't get a guaranteed spot, because the computers have already been reserved for the amount of people that signed up, and there was a deadline by which we had to make the reservation final. It's really that simple, regardless of whether you are 2300 MMR or 1300 MMR.
The NYC tournament scene has NEVER disallowed people from entering or participating due to their MMR, over the course of many years, many venues, many tournaments, organized by many different groups and individuals. And we never will.

The fact remains that people who sign up after the deadline don't get a guaranteed spot, because the computers have already been reserved for the amount of people that signed up, and there was a deadline by which we had to make the reservation final. It's really that simple, regardless of whether you are 2300 MMR or 1300 MMR.
The NYC tournament scene has NEVER disallowed people from entering or participating due to their MMR, over And we never will.
Does nyc tournement scene ever disallowed people from entering or participating due to personal grudge from a petty event meant for students over the course of many years, many venues, many tournaments, organized by many different groups and individuals?

I've had Korean friends before that were victims of MMR profiling for similar events but I never thought it'd happen to me, I just hope eventually your tournament can overcome this prejudice sometime soon.

First you ban Ty2, then you actively avoid telling Models about the deadline so he'd miss it... I guess this event has no competitive integrity whatsoever, huh?
The deadline for pre-sign-ups and for when we had to submit the reservation was in the OP from the first moment it was posted, until the deadline itself. After that, I removed it. So, from May 31st to June 14th, there was big text in the OP that said "we have to submit a headcount by June 14th." An announcement was then made on June 9th that due to a diminishing amount of available space at the venue, we would have to make a hard deadline on June 14th, which was the original deadline anyway. The tournament was promoted in every English-speaking BW Discord throughout this period. Somehow 50 people had no issue signing up before the deadline.

Yes, we have a compiled attendee list. Some of the people that are on it signed up via Facebook, and thus with their real names, (there is a TL NYC Facebook group) so I will not be making that list public out of respect for their privacy.

The tournament is going to be a lot of fun. We will have a great turn-out with a great prize pool, a lot of old and new faces. Nothing of value has been lost, nothing has significantly changed. You can continue to be a Debbie Downer and try to fuel completely unnecessary drama, but that's not going to change the fact that people will attend and have a great time - which was our goal from the start.

Don't let a few people who are trying to incite drama in a thread about a tournament that they had no intentions of ever attending distract you from the fact that this will still be fun and you will still meet with a bunch of the old NYC people, but with the potential to meet new people Don't be a grouch! If we have something good, we can share it with others and bring them into the fold, it doesn't take anything away from us.
Jealous, just stop responding. It's no use. You've done a great work buddy, and I wish you guys all the best at the lan! <3 These people dont deserve your time and energy, use it for the event instead!

So a TO bans one of the most popular players over a petty grudge regarding a CPL team, and it's our fault for criticizing the decision?

Okay.
The tournament organizer is the guy organizing the tournament. It seems reasonable that he be allowed to organize his tournament as he sees fit.

Of course he's allowed to organize it, and we are allowed to criticize it based on the information we have.
If he doesn't want to share more details, then fine, the LAN will still happen and I'm sure everyone will have a great time, but if you ban someone and don't give any details then people will assume the worst.
im not trying to add to the drama, even tho it is highly entertaining but theres a lack of context for the ban. ultimately its jealous' decision if it's his event and he can choose to ban someone if he feels fit. but i think there needs to be truthful information based on why he was banned, if theres none of that then there's just shitty rumors that usually spiral out of control. even if that info comes out its still jealous' call even if the ban is viewed as petty to some people
Of course it's his decision and he's allowed to ban anyone he wants. The point is, is banning someone over some online drama really beneficial towards the community? In my opinion, only cheaters and abusers should be banned from a tournament/LAN. Grudges due to petty online drama shouldn't warrant a ban. That's just crazy. The player pool for remastered seems to be steadily declining. Why ban someone like Ty2 from a tournament/LAN when he does so much for tournaments in the community?

It's wrong to organize a tourney, advertise it on TL and then ban ppl you dislike/have issues with. If he wanted to make it a private tourney he could have hosted a lan w/ his friends and spread the word on discord.
Once you post it on TL it becomes a public event, you can't just ban anyone you want over something trivial. You're basically ostracizing someone which is pretty fucked, imo. I'd get it if something bad happened irl between them (lan incident etc.).. but this is just silly.
You guys know how much shit was said between players on TL back in the day? We all met up at lans and still went about our business/hung out together. As long as the trash talk is game related it shouldn't be an issue, in-game banter is all in good fun (of course this has its limits as well, anyone with common sense knows the boundaries tho).
I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.
I see there's a lot of bad acting pot stirrers who just want to revel in the chaos. I don't appreciate it and I understand if people think a toxic community of trolls vs the selfless organizer narrative is being created. That said, I do want to share my side of the story and speak up about what I see as the unjust banning of myself from the NYC LAN and to give context to this commotion. Ultimately, this is a matter of Jealous (AKA Chobo) banning me from the NYC LAN over conflict in coaching a CPL team.
I have no real recourse besides speaking up and that's what I'm doing - to speak my piece and say just how wronged I feel. That said, I do understand that this is ultimately Chobo's tournament. He's free to make any decision and ban anyone he wants no matter how unreasonable it is.
This all started when I was playing a very minor role in Puck Frotoss, a team on the Coach Pupil League (CPL), a team league focused on the improvement/learning of beginner/intermediate players. FlashFTW, Chobo, and I were the coaches. I had only done replay analyses up until relations between Chobo and I broke down.
I learned that he and FlashFTW had already reviewed several replays there that were put into a document called the replay analysis queue where students would submit replays for review. And, at the time, I was sleep deprived and stressed, and generally just not mentally stable. I said I wanted to redo them all without having even seen the original responses from chobo and flashftw.
This didn't seem to anger Chobo strangely enough, but it was a dick move by me to assume that they were done badly and was definitely me overstepping my bounds, especially when I'd done very little for the team. I even interjected that I wanted to apply my own curriculum and coaching methods as "supervisor" when Chobo/FlashFTW had done so much work setting up the infrastructure and I wanted to make such drastic changes.
Overall, the way I acted was from a lapse in thought, insensitive, thoughtless, inconsiderate, me getting way in over my head, and my ego getting to my head. Just plain and simple, I was being an asshole.
I apologized and explained why that was a horrible thing of me to do, and acknowledged that yes it seems like I'm coming over to wipe away everything they'd done. I even said I wasn't right in the head, wasn't thinking clearly, and speaking before thinking. Chobo summed up what I was trying to do when he said I was trying to "minimize the impact of the flashFTW's and Chobo's coaching of the team."
And he was right - that I was trying to undermine their coaching because I thought it was bad. In the conversation I tried to worm my way around it initially by BS'ing that I was being tactless and what I said was not what I really meant or wanted to get across and I just wanted to be more collaborative. Then I finally threw FlashFTW under the bus by saying I said what I said because I dislike him.
But, I was feeling honest, and fessed up finally that undermining their coaching was the real reason I said that I wanted to redo all of the replays. That was clearly wrong in so many ways. I regret what I said in the moment, and I apologized for it and said it was disgusting behavior to try to undermine their coaching.
Strangely enough, Chobo said he was "fine with having less control over strategy n shit." But again, I didn't want to take control of the team or the fun parts of actually coaching team members especially when Chobo/FlashFTW have put in a lot of work, have genuine passion for the community/game, postiively contribute to it, and do have genuinely good advice/coaching to give. At this time I was also totally ignorant of what things were like on the administrative side of things.
This conundrum was started all from flippant statements I made that I apologized for. And just as I had about made amends I ended up saying something else stupid. Ironically I said I have one more thing to say but I'm really not in the right mindset and should go to sleep. And chobo said something like "You can't leave me on a cliffhanger man lol."
I said that I loved Samyang Fire, a team I hang out in that my friends are on and that I love their system and how everything is chillax there. And I just felt like if Puck Frotoss just chillaxed...
And this set off Chobo, because not only from his perspective was I trying to take over the strategy portion of the team, but I was taking control of the administrative parts of it, and pretty much repeating all of the mistakes I had just made several minutes ago.
I never did get a chance to elaborate on what I meant exactly by the chillax and I didn't mean to replace Jealous's CPL team's system with Samyang's system. In fact, I didn't even know anything about Jealous' system which I would learn about later.
What I meant at the time was I wanted to be able to stream pupils' replays on stream and team practices for the fun of it but Jealous was against that because that would be a potential breach of intelligence that teams would have. Moreover, because I'm reviewing them, players from competing teams would know exactly what their weaknesses are when I point them out. I thought personally it's a bit too serious for the league, but I accepted it and moved on.
I also wanted to not make it a hard requirement for people to play 5 games per week to get into the lineup, because I thought that'd just scare players away. Anyway that would've been presumptuous of me to say anyhow, but again, I wasn't in the right mindset. That said, I didn't get a chance to elaborate to Chobo.
Chobo flipped out on me and handed me over the team to the effect of saying "Fine, you want to take control of the team? I'm done dealing with this." With Chobo more or less leaving it in my hands I felt like I had to lift the team up even though I didn't want to take control of the team or take on all of these responsibilities.
So I made some announcement saying I'd help out more in the team's coach channel in the most diplomatic, politest way possible to not do a repeat of last night, and most importantly I wanted input and to talk it out with the other coaches and avoid "taking control of the team" and just add to what was already there primarily. But things already went bad from the start.
In one of my proposed ideas I asked if it'd be okay to stream pupils' replays and team practices on stream as long as the pupils were okay with it and just for fun. Then Chobo comes in and says it's a slimy thing for me to do when he already said no to it already. I only brought it up in the first place because Chobo said he was handing the reigns over to me so I thought he wouldn't care.
Then Chobo says "Ty2 I am still 100% against you using this team and the player's replays for your own gain and self-promotion." At the time those words definitely stung but more than that I was just uh...in disbelief that he actually thought that and how fast things went downhill. He was mischaracterizing my actions as having a desire to take over the team and control it after Chobo and FlashFTW had done a lot of the work of setting everything up and using it for my own self promotion and gain, which was not my intent at all.
Afterwards I talked w/ FlashFTW the other primary coach to mediate any awkwardness. We made amends, and were just going to go forward and focus on the pupils and put the drama behind us.
After that I slowly came to the realization of how much administrative work Chobo had been doing, and it was clear he put a LOT of work into this team. I didn't do away w/ any of Chobo's systems like making sure each player had played their 5 required games per week and checking each 19 individual players' folders, checking which ones had gone to which KoTHs, which ones played their mandatory weekly Bo3 games w/ the sister team, goon squad, and all of this was collected in a spreadsheet. I even didn't stream when Puck Frotoss' KotHs would come up or when I had to review a Puck Frotoss replay.
I really did try to keep everything as it was before out of respect for Chobo and to appease him and make an eventual smooth transfer back to him after he'd be back from vacation, but eventually it got too much for me to handle. I was definitely humbled by this experience and I even tried copy pasting the system Puck Frotoss had onto the other two teams to show Chobo that I thought his way of doing things was good.
Unfortunately, this backfired when he said it looked like I was acting as an informant for Puck Frotoss' competitors. The workload only increased when I was trying to help two other CPL teams where both teams had a coach drop out. The other coaches still present didn't help as much as needed so i had to take a more central role in those teams too. So, that was poor planning and foresight on my part to say the least.
After dealing with the stress of trying to maintain everything with 16 hour days KOTHing, updating the spreadsheets, organizing everything, and tension between chobo and I getting worse as he'd pick at and undermine what I'd say, and me trying to just assuage everything and being as polite and courteous as possible, eventually I...started making mistakes like accidentally deleting the folder with all of the players' replays.
I was like "oh shit, chobo is gonna be so pissed at me," so I went up to him, apologized. The system had each player having their own folder, and they would ask for replays to be reviewed w/ the corresponding replay in the player folder and the spreadsheet of if players played their mandatory 5 games per week was also filled out using these folders. I had already filled them all out so in essence nothing was lost. I said hey, I already recorded everything on the spreadsheets on who played what and the replays in the queue were already reviewed, so it's no biggie, could you try to restore the folder?
And that was the very last straw for Chobo, who said, in short, "You've drained all of the fun of managing this team for me in CPL, I'm leaving this team. Have fun doing whatever you want."
And you know I've apologized. I admitted what I did was wrong that first day things started going downhill and every day after I was trying my best to repair everything so things could go back to the way they were.
Despite all of my best efforts, none have worked. And I got into the misfortune of getting into a conflict with the person who happens to be the organizer of the NYC LAN. I will say Jealous is passionate about the game and community and excels at organizing things very well. He feels very strongly about keeping things organized, and in my case, when I stepped on his toes, that was definitely a very bad move.
In this whole debacle I'm not excusing myself, because I do hold fault here and made a series of mistakes. I was insensitive when I told Chobo from the beginning that I wanted to "redo all of the reps" and that I thought the Puck Frotoss team would benefit from adopting a more "chillaxed" system like Samyang when I hadn't contributed at all to the team prior and had no understanding of how things were done at the time. You all already know where I stand on that and despite my best efforts to mend fences and get on Chobo's good side, obviously that hasn't worked. But above all I didn't have any intentions of malice, self promotion, or sabotaging Chobo's team, Puck Frotoss.
And why I'm speaking up is that I can easily say I've dedicated my life to this game, this community, coached in all 3 recent season of CPL, and coached dozens of people, played in dozens upon dozens of tournaments, written guides, provided content, hosted showmatches/tourneys. Even through all the ups and downs, I just straight up love this game and want to talk to people about it. And for me to hang out and have fun talking to people IRL about this game for the first time in my life would mean a lot to me.
Sadly, I can't even show up to hang out even if I don't play in the tournament with the prize pool. I talked w/ Tim who is a secondary organizer and we reached a compromise that yes, I wouldn't be playing in the main tournament because Chobo wouldn't be able to take me profiting off of his hard work. I understood that and respected Chobo's perspective and was more than content with just showing up, but not playing in the main tournament. Later on though Tim told me Chobo made it very clear that he didn't want me to show up at all and that if I did, he'd leave the LAN altogether.
Anway, that's my side of the story. And again, this is Chobo's tournament. I understand he can ban whoever he wants for whatever reason no matter how unreasonable it is.
Edit: TL;DR: Jealous aka Chobo, FlashFTW, and I, were coaching a team. I said I wanted to redo replay analysis from FlashFTW/Chobo because I thought Chobo's/FlashFTW's coaching was bad. I apologized for this and said I was wrong and uninformed. I also said I wanted to change some team stuff like no more 5 game requirement per week and allowing people to stream team practices/rep analysis. This was presumptuous of me and I apologized because I didn't put in any work earlier. Chobo didn't like what I said and gave me the reins of the team. I tried keeping everything the same w/o changing anything and trying to please Chobo so he'd come back to coach the team. I ended up making a mistake by deleting some files which didn't matter, but Chobo entirely left the team after that. He's banned me from even being there even if I don't play in the tournament. It's his right to do so as tournament organizer, but I don't think it's fair and it would mean a lot for me to go to the NYC LAN.[/QUOTE]

Since Ty2 took the effort of bringing everything forward, I would like to corroborate ~95% of what he has written here. The remaining 5% isn't worth amending as it is mostly perspectives/word choice. For example, I would not characterize my conduct as "undermining," considering the context of the situation at that point. However, those are just minor details. I would like to add that I had no means for recovering the data that Ty2 deleted. I do respect Ty2 for coming forward with what I consider a fairly accurate representation of the situation here.
I will say that this is still not the whole truth, as there were other things going on that contribute to my impression that more than just the initial salvos of the conflict were done in malice by Ty2. Perhaps the most damning in my eyes, and the only one of which I will discuss at length, is that after my departure from the Discord communities, Ty2 went through the effort of going back and deleting our exchanges that alluded to this conflict, essentially making it a cover-up. I heard about this from other members who were trying to scroll back and figure out what happened, only to find the content removed. Other things are more personal in nature and involve a third party, to whom I promised I would try to keep the drama and their involvement to a minimum, which is exactly why I was trying to avoid a long drawn-out discussion on the topic because I effectively gave my word that I would try to keep the drama to a minimum. Ty2 was initially in agreement with this, and had agreed a week ago to bow out of the tournament quietly, but clearly this is not how it transpired. Let it also be known that toward the end, my conduct had deteriorated in the wake of these transgressions because I was just desperately trying to get a resolution from Ty2, who himself was considering quitting the team, asking him whether he would stay with the team now that I was out of his way, only to be met with silence. I had not communicated with Ty2 since then (or rather, received no response) until yesterday. For that deterioration in conduct, I apologize to Ty2.
In short, what I found out from this third party clued me into what I perceived and continue to perceive as Ty2's duplicitous and manipulative nature. The sheer consistency with which I had been disrespected, taken advantage of, and my work then sabotaged over the course of a week or two has thoroughly convinced me that I no longer wish to have anything to do with Ty2, which includes having him benefit from my hard work ever again, which unfortunately for him includes this (and future) tournament(s) in which I am an organizer. Some people in the thread are saying "it's just CPL stuff" or "it's Brood War," I would like to retort by saying that just because YOU may not care about CPL or may find it silly to be upset about it, perhaps it is because many of you had not put in the hours and effort that I did and thus can't empathize with the attachment I had to my work. I wouldn't feel any different than if I had spent weeks, dozens of hours, on a finger painting and then had someone come in and effectively sabotage it. On the surface you can say, "oh, it's just a finger painting," but you have the luxury of saying so because you didn't spend dozens of hours and concerted effort into it. To you it may well be just CPL or just petty drama, but to me it was someone maliciously disregarding and damaging the product of my labor. Thus, the natural consequence in my mind, is that I don't want Ty2 to be anywhere near my future finger paintings, whether he has scissors in his hands or not. One prolonged episode which contained numerous and consistent patterns of behavior was enough for me to come to this conclusion, and as I said before, my decision is final.
If Ty2 wishes to continue this dialog, you can PM me, but I don't imagine there is much left to discuss. For those of you who came here for the drama or to defend their friend or whatnot, I hope that this will sate your curiosity and you can just let me run this tournament without further derailment. There is still a lot of work to be done and every moment I continue to spend due to this situation with Ty2 feels like a complete waste of my time. Thanks in advance for your time and understanding.
I think Ty2 was sincere in his apology and he even admitted that he realized how much work you put into it and felt regretful. Those of us who know him well understand that he is not the most socially adept person and is even awkward somewhat. No one can deny that this is your tournament and that you can allow or disallow whomever you want from participating. I just feel that it would be a huge miss of opportunity if an established and well-regarded player like Ty2 is barred from competing, especially in an event as rare and hard to come by as a BW LAN.
whoops mistake post, but anyway I guess I'll say a bit.
I want to clarify the reason I deleted those posts was for a cover-up for you because I didn't want you to come back to the team and know that the team knows there was conflict between you and me. you'd figure that out by scrolling up in the chat history and I wanted to avoid any awkwardness or tension if you came back to coaching. Obviously that didn't work out.
I have no more to say about this for the most part and for those who are going to the NYC LAN I hope you have fun.

It's your tournament, but this is a very sad justification.
Definitely not the summary of either of the summaries that we gave, but whatever - your mind is made up and if you wish to deliberately exclude key things from your interpretation of the events, that's up to you. I'm done arguing about it.
I don't think that someone's status or popularity entitles them to walk all over other people and their work and then be welcomed with open arms in those people's future ventures. As I said before, this will be a great event with a great turn out, great prize pool, reunion of old friends, forging of new friendships, regardless of Ty2's participation and certainly regardless of your personal opinions on this specific matter.
Damn is it just me or is there like literally more drama in anything BW than... like... all soap operas combined... Or... like... I dunno combined. Man we should make a BW soap opera

Facts. Regardless, I can't wait to see the homies from the past NY LANs
Regarding all this drama, if you whiners want Ty2 to attend a LAN then go right ahead and organize your own tournament with the time you are spending you complain about it. No matter how petty you feel it may be to been to ban him, that is ultimately up to the TO to decide.
I guess it would not bw without drama! I feel you Ty2, I feel your pain of just wanting wanna be there without playing; and I never saw a post as long as yours in 10 years here on tl; however, I never saw jealous outright ban someone in 10 years here, so Imma gonna take his side cause as an admin if he had said these things, there is a much more profound reason; so, better luck next time mate, your like a zertgling vs a siege tank; however I feel a lot of respect for you Ty2: you are a grand person; next time bro, hold out for next time your time will come; and know, for the most authoritarian vid of the bw saga and why we ultimately all here:

seriously, we haven't had drama this good in the united states bw scene since lastshadow cheated in wcg qualifiers
All of this reminds me of people on battle.net and iccup not giving someone a regame because they were "BM" in the game. When realistically, it was simply because the BM player was just too good. This ban seems THAT petty.
What's next? People like Models and Yaj getting banned for trolling and joking around in game chat?

Suffice to say that if it was simply trash talk/BM, there wouldn't be a ban. Neither of those users are discouraged from joining us, nor is anyone else except FBM.

Personally I don't like that Ty2 is effectively being given the same punishment as funnybananaman, considering how much he's put in to making the community a better place. The way he handled things was improper, no doubt, but he has acknowledged his mistakes and apologized for them. Not allowing him to participate in the tournament is one thing, but preventing him from even showing up, hanging out, and pigging out with fellow community members is excessively harsh. Honestly I think he'd be a better commentator for the stream than just about anyone else the mic happens to randomly be passed around to.

Yeah it's not my place to get involved in this, but this seems like the rational approach. Come on guys he'll apologize IRL and buy you a beer and you'll become best buddies. Also we'll have a good knowledgeable commentator :O

I don't care about this beef at all, but if all these TY2 fanboys want him at LAN tournaments then make your own damn tournament and invite him.
Until then the guy who is taking the time and effort to organize and coordinate this thing can do whatever he wants. It's easy for all the people who aren't investing time and labor to make this happen to run their mouths.

doesnt mean organizer should be immune to any sort of criticism and should only be object of praise. Thats ridiculous. Tournament is one thing, but barring from community meetup because of personal ego issue is just ridiculous, especially when said organizer is claiming to be "adult" about it.
Well, it stinks that certain people can't come, but that's life. Banning 1 or 2 but instead having 40+ people attending, having a very nice prize pool, and still having a super fun day together is all that will matter at the end of this. It is what it is.
I have nothing at all against Ty2 but I support the primary TO's choice (I agree that no person, regardless of community popularity, should be allowed to take advantage of another's work. I empathize with Jealous on this point and support his decision entirely) and I look forward to having some fun with the rest of the attendees.
I am in agreement that people are allowed to criticize as they see fit. However, I do hope that those who are losing sleep over this soon find solace. Good times shall occur regardless.

From what I gather it doesn't seem to have anything to do with ego. It has everything to do with OP doing what he thinks his necessary to protect the fruits of his labor. That's as adult as it gets.
Let me tell you something about the adult world. Actions have consequences. TY2 himself said that he made multiple mistakes. If jealous comes to the conclusion that it is not worth dealing with someone who has obviously ruined his endeavors before, and someone he doesn't trust, then the smart adult thing to do would be to take precautions to protect his work and leave it at that.
The only thing thats childish in here is all crying and complaining being done about a adult who is trying to protect his work. Thinking someone is entitled to an adults work just because of a high status in the community is childish
Just think of it like Blizzard banning life from sc2 for messing with blizzards work

Why not list the participant list per their battle.net account names?
Because people who signed up on Facebook were not required to provide their battle.net names, because I know them personally.
Just about every person who you would know on TL, you can find posting in this thread here. Overall, I don't think I understand why there is a need for the attendees list to be public considering ~75% of the attendees have already publicly signed up here.
Once the tournament is underway, we will have a bracket with everyone's aliases publicly available. This will then be imported into Liquipedia.

Indeed. It's a private matter and everyone has already voiced their opinion regarding it. Let's just focus on the actual LAN and for Jealous and Ty2 to deal with this through pm.

Hey, so I've put this behind me and I encourage everyone to end the drama and not continue this discussion. This issue isn't a part of StarCraft, the game we know and love. I am handling this issue with Chobo in private.

Can we just stop? My goodness - FBW people can't even let other people throw their own LAN without coming here and causing all this drama. Just let people handle it on their own and move on.
Talking about Jealous hurting an already small community and all this nonsense, and now look at you all - talking about being an adult - and being the most childish of them all continuing this.
Just give it a break, let us host a damn LAN, and move on with your lives. No one cares about TY2 except FBW rejects, we're going to have fun without you guys, and that's it. If your lives are that meaningless that you need to try and hinder a LAN/this thread over 1 person, rethink your priorities. My favorite part is how you dont include your original message to me. Don't care about you, go elsewhere.
Look, people complain and wonder why there's no money in the scene, but how many tournaments have taken place where some people in the scene just complained and flamed the organizer? BaseTrade's tournaments, Schamtoo/FilthyRake's tournaments, and now this LAN, all off the top of my head.
I have no opinion on the ban, I hope that Jealous/Ty2 can work out their disagreements, but when you have a guy who has literally raised $580 for a Brood War LAN in the US, what purpose does it serve to literally just come in and flame him and try to troll the thread? What kind of impression do you think all of these examples give to someone who might want to come into the scene and host a tournament with a decent prize pool? If you thought Incontrol was wrong way back when he stated that behavior like this is what kept people away from the scene, well...
I'm really excited to see the turnout and it sounds like it's gonna be a lot of fun and I hope that the plans for the LA LAN and the Texas LAN can come to fruition cause more Brood War LANs in the US would be amazing.

nahyunjung, you're not going to win anything by continuing this. I don't think that you will be a problem for the LAN and you are still free to attend - I only said that there will never be violence in my response to your original post just so that no one suspects that this might be a possibility. When we meet at the LAN, I will find a way for you to keep in contact with the community, whether it be through Facebook or Discord, so that you can continue attending future events and such. For now, I think it's time that you stopped fighting this battle here (or in general). Nothing will come of it. Cheers.
I think people need to be a bit more grateful towards the organizers and contributors of the event. Foreign Broodwar doesn't have many tournaments so for me they are always great news.

It will be a bit difficult to park right by the venue, but I've never had a problem finding a spot within a few blocks. That area in particular might be a bit more crowded than past venue locales. When I met Overtime by the venue, he was parked maybe 2-3 blocks away.
Driving would definitely be more convenient for getting to and from the venue though, I think. Depends on whether or not you will be at KBBQ drinking too

The closest hotels that I found are listed in the OP, but remember that you can also just travel to/from a cheaper place somewhere else via pub trans.

Right. But is pub trans 24/7? I hate planning.
It runs late at the very least. Both LIRR and the subway run well past 1 AM, which is when the KBBQ place closes.

Majority of public transit especially subways run 24/7 in NYC, many buses too.

Parking is a pain in the ass in Flushing
However, it's not like it's impossible to find parking and there is a municipal parking lot like 2-3 blocks from the gaming place if you end up not being able to find parking on the street. There are probably a couple of private garages around that area too. I don't think it's a bad idea to drive from Newark. For example I went to eat in the vicinity of the gaming place a couple of months ago and found parking 3 blocks away
I used to go to the KBBQ place like every week. When I finally got a car, I never had problems finding parking. sometimes I had to walk 3-4 blocks though lol. If youre lucky you will find parking in their small parking lot in the back but i doubt it since it's gonna be packed. I usually parked in surrounding the residential areas (2-5 block walk) when I couldn't find parking in the lot or on the same block. This was years ago thought idk if anything changed. A bunch of local busses run almost 24/7 (at least back in my day. I know the q13 still runs like 22-23 hours at the very least ) that stop right near the BBQ place.
Thanks much but half is protoss so you know what to focus on lol
You have an almost equal chance to get knocked out by a Terran/Zerg in your first two matches as you do two Protoss. I guess the argument can be made if you're aiming for #1 to prepare for the race of the person who is the strongest contender, for example, but outside of that there really is no justification to practice specifically for one race IMO.

O man! Great job organizing this event Jealous! Also thank you for the support from all the donor's and sponsors, feels like the US BW is becoming alive again :D

Interested in attending as a spectator for the event. Anything I might need to know? I’ve been to sc2 lans before but never a broodwar event. Is it okay if I stream some to my page twitch.tv/maniac1122 ?

Yes you can attend as a spectator for sure! One thing you need to know is that at least initially, there is no guarantee you will get a computer, as we will be reserving ~85% of the venue for the people who completed pre-sign-up and the other computers may be filled with walk-in regular customers at first. As the tournament goes on, I am sure some people will be giving up their computer spots, at which point you can hop on. Yes, you are allowed to stream to your page, the venue said that it is allowed and we don't have a problem with you obsing and streaming on the side. However, do note that there will be an official stream at the same time.
Damn, looking at the turnout and the support makes me really wish I could be there... perhaps I will try to drop by later in the day after my earlier commitments, or hope for another one in the near-ish future!

I think if you're in the area and want to just drop by to see the event / spectate / whatever, it would be cool -- goes for anyone really. I'd say if it starts at 3PM, it'll probably go on for ~5 hours? So people will be around for a while...

5-7 is my best estimate atm. Then KBBQ for dinner! So, for spectators/hanging out, any time on Saturday after 3 PM is good, basically.
I haven't played BW in over a decade (pretty much around the time Boxer left for military service), but some BW videos have popped into my YT recommendations for a few weeks now and Flushing is in my backyard and I'd love to drop in.

No worries! Love to play if something opens up, but would just love to watch some live BW. Oh, and I figure I'd bring my camera to take a few snaps for documentation purposes if that's alright?

I'm sure that everyone who attends will have an opportunity to play at some point during the day, I just can't promise that it will be at 3 PM or in the main tournament.
That's fine, as long as you get people's permission before taking photos of them and such. Given that, I think it would be cool having someone taking photos during the event I think and maybe uploading them here? I know there were other people who were interested in doing so, as well as people who are not attending who wanted to see some photos as well.

Stream seems good enough couple vids of the playing hall + players would be great but I will understand if it will not happen.
Thank you pebble for the bump! It's been quiet around here but I do have a small update. Tomorrow Overtime and I are heading to the venue again to set up streaming, shared rep folder, shared map folder, etc. as well as sealing the deal on the price. What I am aiming for (and what the owner and I discussed) is a weighted average pay scale. What this means is, no matter which computer you are seated at, we will all be paying the same amount - a discounted average. In other words, instead of one person paying 6 dollars per hour, another 2 per hour, another 4 per hour, we will all pay 3 per hour (which equals to 7 hours 40 minutes of play time for a membership, which is a little over our expected run time).
Final info on that is gonna be posted this weekend.
On July 07 2019 14:07 SCC-Faust wrote: Is it too late to sign up for the reservations at the KBBQ place?
There's still room because I reserved 2 tables and there was extra space between the two. I expected that people at the event would kinda just tag along even if they didn't reserve, but I'll add you to reserve list.
On July 09 2019 00:21 SaetZero wrote: What are the odds to play in the tournament? i see you said early sign ups are closed
it would be a multiple hour drive for me to go. Dont wanna show up and be out of luck. Any thoughts?
Chances are very low I would say. When I was there this Saturday, there was about 50 people there, meaning that the ~12 computers we DIDN'T reserve are likely to be filled by general customers on the day of. There is also already a backlog of entrants who get priority if someone who reserved doesn't show up in time on the day of.
You are still more than welcome to come and watch/play games on the side as availability allows, but as far as entering the main tournament, I wouldn't bet on it.
We will almost certainly be hosting another one in about 3-4 months or so - stay tuned for that and don't miss the next sign-up!
On July 09 2019 05:50 yellowsmile wrote: question: do we play on BN or just UDP mode (assuming all the computers are network connected internally)
UDP. Unfortunately I didn't get to test UDP, but that is the preferred and logical way of doing things. If it for whatever reason does not work, then Battle.net.
I am not booking a hotel/airbnb and I'm probably taking a bus to central park (30 mins from flushings according to google maps) to and from Reading PA. The bus doesn't run late at night so I'd have to catch it at 10am the next morning for my way home. Anyone feel like prowling the streets with me and pulling an all nighter?
Anything's possible for me. But chances are you'll have to go back to Manhattan or to Brooklyn as Flushing won't have much for late night activities. After 1230am or so, the subways run every 20 minutes, so it might be a long ride after dinner (i.e. perfect time to split a bottle).

Thanks for this info. I'll probably head back to manhattan after KBBQ then.
Actually, there seem to be a number of places open late in Flushing. My bad! Mostly more Korean restaurants, but could be something else there as well.
Finally just bought my bus tickets. I'll end up at park avenue south between 26th and 27th at 9;25am. It is the only bus that runs near me. So I'll have a lot of time to kill. If anyone is commuting early, we can prob do stuff. Hmu I'm not a weirdo.
Also I might need an extra large seat at the lan if they supply those. Got a major fat ass.

If you've never been to the city, you can go sight-seeing? You can walk to the Empire State Building, and then walk to Times Square, and get on the 7 train from there to Flushing.
So I'll definitely still show up, but I'm definitely pulling out of the tourney itself, prize pool is too big for me to participate in good faith, esp considering the huge interest generated. I'll be swinging by to obs and chill tho.

There's literally no floor for skill in this tournament. The prize pool and the higher skilled players shouldn't intimidate or discourage anyone. The more the merrier! Anyway, you can choose to buy in or not on the day of, that is when the brackets and all that are finalized, we are not currently keeping track of who wants to be in the tournament or not.
Tournament Rules
Tournament Seating Chart
Using the 7 train is recommended (unless you're running late).
Also info like this is consolidated in the original post of the thread and all announcements are in the actual 1st post too. So please take a look at both of those again.
Here it is:

EDIT: I didn't upload the initial photos with an imgur login, so I'm removing that link in case someone wants a photo removed/changed. Will upload all photos again.
Let me know if you'd like a photo removed/altered or if you'd like an uncompressed copy of the photo.
Thanks so much for putting it together! I didn’t perform well but it was an awesome time geeking out about SC nevertheless. It’s not something that any of my close friends understand or follow so you guys coming together was an awesome moment! If we do this again I’m signing up for sure.
Also funny how the power went out in NYC today- must have been because of the electricity overload from the PC cafe. Power overwhelming!
I clearly remember the first time i played starcraft, over 20 years ago. I played much better that day than I did today. Looking forward to doing this the 2nd saturday of each month though for redemption! (hah wouldn't that be a wonderful world)
edit: also, even though jealous was the only organizer I had contact with you guys all did an awesome job thanks so much! Sorry I couldn't stay longer but there was unfortunately a death in the family and I had to go. Oh and ANOTHER also...thanks so much to the girl that found my ticket and returned it to me! So nice of you

It was nice meeting everyone! Lot of fellow New Yorkers there.
Great job to everyone organizing this and of course to all the participants. If I can suggest one thing for the next LAN, it would be to get some actual cameras on the event that can be shown on stream. For example, there should be a camera of the casters shown during the games, and between games camera should be showing the venue. As a person watching the stream, I really wanted to be immersed in the LAN atmosphere, but all I could see was a BW screen and some voices in the background.
But beside that, it was a really great event. Here's to many more!
Would like to personally apologize to everyone who shook my hand and was met with cold and clammy fingers with sweaty palms. The monsters changed my physiology during the tournament.

Unfortunately we DID have a camera - it just didn't work, for whatever reason. What you're describing was definitely our goal, and hopefully we can sort something out by the next event.
Great event! We always talk about starleagues, star players and perhaps blizzard getting a new update rolling, but in reality i feel events like this contribute in no small margin to keep our game alive and grow interest. I take my hat off, Jealous, Tim and Sugo! Awesome work! Big thanks to esports.fund and all others who donated! And last but not least to all players. Im hoping for NYC Lan 2020.
We're hoping that this will satisfy you for now: we are running another NYC BW LAN tournament, in October of 2019
Now I wish I didn't fly out of NYC early in the morning and missed out on the Korean BBQ.
It was great to see some of the members of the LMaster's discord and play in an offline tournament. Don't know if I can make it to the next one, but I'll definitely show up again in later editions. Hopefully this will get the community to run more LANs all over the world.
Edit: in the survey, for when would the earliest you would arrive, I'm assuming 12am is supposed to be 12pm.

Oops >_> Thanks! EDIT: Ok if I fix it, it just adds 12 PM as a new option, so 12 AM stays but I think everyone gets what it means haha.

Things like this are the very nature of a LAN though. Everyone’s settings are not the same as they’re used to, arm to chair ratios are off, room temperature drastically different, etc. Lots of variables in play for everyone and that is why some people can just be better in this type of play... anyways, think of the people who were admins and played; lack of time to set up and helping people in between, no warm up, etc. So I can assure you that it wasn’t just you
It’s the beauty of a LAN though. I rather take losses not playing optimally and meet some new people and have a good time.

I'd like to kindly suggest that you host the next NYC LAN at least a few months after the LA LAN (assuming it gets organized). I feel like if these events happen too often, they won't get nearly the same level of hype and support you got this time around. Also, having two back-to-back LANs means that donations to the prize pools will be split between the two. In other words, the LANs would be competing with one another for support. On top of that, I wouldn't want you to burn out from all the work you're doing. You can do whatever you like, of course. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
That SKT1 jersey you were wearing was ridiculously cool, by the way. Pretty appropriate, considering that Bisu's about to come back and make up for lost time.

No, we are not going to plan around a hypothetical LAN that has no set date, venue, etc. I don't think it is a coincidence that within a few weeks of us announcing the first LAN, discussions of other LANs around the USA started popping up. It is not our responsibility to keep track of other events and cede entire months just because some LAN is happening thousands of miles away and thus has a significant barrier of entry for people in the greater NYC area. We don't have concrete expectations for prize pool sustainability - it's natural that the first big event in NYC in nearly 10 years will draw a lot of attention, perhaps more than consequent ones. That is not a concern for us. We're going to keep doing what we're doing while seeking to improve the administrative elements with each iteration. The rest is out of our hands more or less. At the end of the day, more LANs is always good, and making them more spread out than the frequency at which people are willing to run them doesn't make sense to me.
The amount of work that we have to do is spread out over the course of multiple months, so it's not that taxing - thanks in large part to the expense coverage we have received (I haven't done the final calculations but I believe expenses were almost entirely covered).
I'll be wearing a different T1 shirt at the next one Bisu hype.

Gotta dig out my vintage TL shirt and WeMadeFox shirt. Oh, and Hwaseung Oz jacket.
As a person who is interested in travel, Brood War, and meeting friends, I vote for sensibly taking note of other LAN events. It's not out of the question that I would fly to LA if Xeris, shindigs, GhostClaw, etc. show up.
Think of it like weddings. You're gonna plan your wedding for whenever you want it. But check in with your mutual friends to make sure you don't overlap on dates. I don't know if this analogy helps but it seems like all of us are 28-33 and that's also prime wedding season.

We're absolutely not going to overlap with any dates that are announced and set in stone, that much is obvious. What Shalashaska was asking us to do is delay it by months to accommodate for a LAN that hasn't even been organized, scheduled, or announced yet. That is overkill and out of the question. If we announce our date first, wouldn't they be the ones who should be accommodating us and be told to delay their LAN? The rate at which things are going now, this seems to be the likely scenario.
I have kept tabs on the LA LAN thread of course, and none of the dates that are in afreeca's poll are ones we are considering, so we're all clear on that front.
EDIT: You can see my post in the LA thread for reference:

Without any further informations concerning it, yes i agree with you: the organizer of the second Lan should take the first lan into consideration when the date is already set.
Ofc if two lans target an entirely different playerbase, there is no need for a mutual agreement. But thats a different scenario.

We can't move the date due to a number of reasons. We will have more in the future, and this makes up for the fact that not everyone can come to every specific date

Dude I had literally never seen remastered...
And damnit a whole long thing I typed disappeared but yeah, I; have RM now, I'll be there in october. Can't wait til we get a list of who's going^^ I wish I had gotten to chat with u sugo since we have a history but a death-in-the-family text during my loser bracket match had me out the door quick. I did meet Jealous however, what a great guy. Every bit as professional and courteous in person as he is online. The highlight for me was getting my ass whooped by I believe widowmaker was his name in my first match of the day. Super cool guy, we got along perfectly, vetos were easy as hell, map choices super smooth, everything very GM and an all around great experience. I hope I run across him on bnet and get to practice with him in the future.
