Who's emotional investment do you mean? Cuz back then if you didn't win the finals of a starleague you just continued playing on your team. Now if you don't win the finals it can potentially cost you your livelihood and you can go flip burgers. There's no safety net like that right now.

Quite an irony considering Bisu does have a "safety net" and is probably the biggest of any of the current expros

In addition hes not the face of Kongdoo for nothing and OGN acceded to his request for winXP unlike EffOrt.

Sure but what's he going to do after he's done with Starcraft? His ~3000 viewers won't feed him for the rest of his life and I don't think he has the personality to get successful like YellOw. Unless he becomes a coach somewhere his flashy esports career will likely be of no use to him.

hey he just won 10 million won you know.
after the army pretty sure he can play into his 30s, just like NaDa/Iris is doing.
he already has marketing/modelling gigs and who knows what else arranged on Kongdoo TV
should be loaded by the time hes 40.

10M Won = like a year basic life expenses? Sure, it's good. And idk how much he's making overall from donations and ads and whatnot, but I highly doubt it'll be enough to keep a family going 5-10 years later. But I could be wrong. Anyway for someone like hero winning first place certainly makes a huge difference. As for Bisu, he looked pretty depleted as well, I highly doubt he didn't give enough shit and didn't practice for this to the best of his abilities.

Ah sorry about that! I shouldn't doubt the bonjwa passion!

I hope NaDa plays competitively again. Would be great for the scene!

BTW, where is Jangbi? Now that Protoss is at the brink of extinction (or so BD claims), we need a new hero from Aiur!

I hope so, too. Deeply. Same with July.

Jangbi is in the military, I believe. I think Best might be coming back though? I was never big on Best, but it'd be cool seeing him back.

Alas, NaDa and July are a foil of their old selves and will likely never be competitive enough to advance past the first round of a SSL.

It'd be like having Tossgirl or firebathero appearing in a SSL -- great for publicity, evoke some nostalgia with the fans, but alas, not much more.

The future of BW may lie in its amateurs becoming competitive enough with the top progamers, but in these next few years on SBENU/Kongdoo-sponsored life support, big household names need to keep BW propped up and in the limelight, in the midst of the public conciousness. It's a terrible shame Bisu wasn't able to seize this moment in the spotlight and magnify it 10x with a victory.

Oh the news stories that would emerged -- "The Revolutionist finally wins the OGN Starleague" "Vengeance his name is Taeksin" "The rise of the dragon" "BW resurgence continues with the Taek-god". Myths and stories of lore...

As joyous as I am that hero played so well, I'm equally disappointed that Bisu didn't player better and earn the victory, if only to help prop up BW for another year or two... No other top player is close to the draw that is Bisu, so to have seen him come this far, re-ignite such energy with this historic rematch versus hero, only to flounder the opportunity.

Such a sad day for the BW scene... Watching Sonic present the winner's trophy and check to hero, the disappointment on his face was obvious

For me Bisu's win would be more like 'Bisu wins as expected, everyone else sucks and you know it, just stop watching after he's gone'. Kim Carrier also said it's of utmost importance that there are players to challenge the likes of Bisu, or it just becomes a one-man show and people will stop caring.

theres difference between regular practice and last minute mugging, too much bububu onstream and added Kongdoo commitments means hes not putting in enough imo. It shows in both his regular streaming times and his play now, sloppiness+nervousness, very uncharacteristic of supposedly the best BW PvZer. disappointing tbh.

NaDa and July don't have anything more to prove as does guys like IriS and ZeuS.

Protoss may experience a time not heard of since GARIMTO retired.

I definitely agree that's it's good to promote competition and maybe having Bisu sitting a top the pedestal may just give other players more incentive to practice...Most importantly, Bisu draws the crowds. His streams are mega-popular, his sponsorship deals and visibility with the masses.

Just look at TL, in tournaments he plays in, we get 10x the interest in league coverage articles, LR threads, Liquibets, and every other metric by which we gauge the health of BW. It really seems like BW needing Bisu to keep the game alive (with SBENU/Kongdoo dollars)

I agree that a closer 3-2 would've been better but at the same time, 3-0 Bisu would've been much worse than what we saw imo. Bisu has been sitting at the pedestal ever since he came back.

The only thing needed after HerO's victory is the rise of a new wave of amateurs who have both the skill and charisma to carry the scene on their backs.

A 3-2 would've captivated more people.

I actually agree with this. As much as it'd be great watching the old-timers slug it out, what we really need is new blood. Some of the current crop are still young and have been playing for a long time and are still very good, but we need fresh meat here.

I guess it depends on what is considered "old".
But I didn't realize Olympus was 25.

That's one way to look at it. Another is that it's like Tiger Woods... there are lots of ppl who don't give that much of a crap about golf itself, but who became fans because of Tiger. Now that he's not doing well, they've stopped caring about the game, because they were Tiger fans, not golf fans.

Bisu's great, but BW can't live or die because of one player. If it's to that point, then the 'great BW revival', isn't.

It's awesome that there's tough competition that can take Bisu down, we need more and more of that, rather than over-relying on old legends.

Again, look at golf... they invested everything into hyping Tiger for the last 15 years. Now they're in trouble, declining viewership, declining participation, because Tiger kinda sucks now, and they didn't bother to build up the brands of a generation of rising young stars.

This even though Tiger last won a major in 2008.
