you should pretty much always build your rax in your nat, the 9depot can go in either main or nat but usually you're better off placing that in the nat as well edit: an alternate way to do it is to start walling off your main ramp instead of sim citying your nat, but it's a lot more annoying to play against early zealots

i adjusted some things to make it better and more versatile vs some protoss builds, but the general idea is still the same as in every macro zvp.

There are tons of replays in http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=310883 and http://www.teamliquid.net/replay/ you can get modern zvp builds from if you want to learn 3hat spire. (snail vs huro is a pretty nice one as example and you can PM me if you have questions.)

Wanting to get decent at 1v1, but I enjoy all the races too much to pick one yet.

The problem with playing random is that you will have to learn all 9 MUs, all 3 races' hotkeys, and all the intricacies that come with that. Therefore, progress should be a lot slower in terms of both skill and rank, because progress is spread over more areas. However, there is nothing barring you from getting decent at 1v1 by playing random, it will just take longer imo. The only drawback I can envision is that no one on ladder wants to play vR. EDIT: What I found helps is playing R in 2v2 (no one really bans you for that), and then race-picking in 1v1.
