Hey guys, it's a pretty special day today. In the past, we've relied on laggy-as-hell afreeca restreams to watch top korean Broodwar gamers play in first person.
We've had to sit through the SC2 Korean invasion and look on enviously.
Today that ends. Ex-SKT T1 Progamer In_Dove is streaming. ON TWITCH!
hes 400+ apm and saw him when he wasnt tired ( hes been on quite a long time now) and he was almost 300eapm, pretty nuts guy. He's above 1700 (high rank)on fish I believe.
He was one of the guys who went pure marine/medic vs zerg with no tanks (SK Terran) for such a long time, and even beating JulyZerg at IEF iirc. It's a shame he never made a breakthrough as a pro, but I have always been a huge fan of him. He's so good!
I can only speak from UED Gaming's perspective. We will be making way for more players like Dove to come to the foreign scene. We understand that there are a lot of tournaments they cannot enter. Therefore to try and attract more for us to spectate I'll arrange for some interesting tournaments that will allow us to enjoy watching these guys play more.
He's enjoying playing on iCCup and I'm sure with his stream being featured sooner or later we can check out some really good games with much better picture quality.
I think as long as we support the welcome to players like Dove, we will see more really high quality players show up on the stream list sooner rather than later. This of course allows those with the knowledge how to attract more money to the foreign scene and create some entertaining stuff.
Gj aaf.cat for introducing Dove to twitch ^^ and SNM for translating for us in the stream chat haha
Crowning achievement seems to have been beating fOru in an MST prelim back in 2006. Still, not bad, and judging from the rep they just ran through, whoa.
On December 15 2011 15:59 Cedstick wrote: Sad that he only got between 200 and 300 viewers, though =\
That had a lot to do with the fact that he wasnt featured for a long while nor was his stream listed on any sites other than TL, but perhaps most improtantly the time during which he streamed - starting at around 3am CET or so - was most ill chosen seeing as it was late night/early morning in all of Europe (including Russia).
I'm hoping he chooses to stream at a more convenient time later on. If so, then I'm sure he'll get a heck of a lot more viewers.
On December 15 2011 15:59 Cedstick wrote: Sad that he only got between 200 and 300 viewers, though =\
yeah that is sad. he can probably get more viewers streaming on afreeca tbh
Thats a common misconception. To get a really big viewer count on afreeca is hard if you're not 1a2a3a / hiya / savior. Players around his caliber would probably be stuck around 50-100 viewers on afreeca unless they managed to differentiate their stream in some way or stream for a long time to become popular.
For example, that super clan league we played in had like, 50 viewers on afreeca when i was restreaming it, and that had ex progamers playing and shit, whereas without even a calender event or much advertising and SHITLOADS of stream lag had 150 viewers on my restream. With the new qualifications for partenering on twitch, i think its actually probably better money-wise for a player like in_dove to be streaming on TL.
To give you some perspective, right now its 6pm KST. so probably not *peak* hours, but getting close. Anytime is streaming, high profile ex-progamer with a starleague title: has 564 viewers. Shinee (I'm not 100% sure who this is, possibly current stx b teamer??) has 500 viewers next highest i can find right now is a good terran, with 160 viewers. Mahell, super high ranked zerg, 102 viewers
During the day today, on an unfeatured stream on TL, in_dove had like 250 viewers.

Fixed so we don't get people saying "But fOrGG streams SC2!1!1!!!" cries in here. XD
I turned in yesterday, and I had a unexpected good time with their chatting lol hopefully we can see (maybe I've missed it but I hope too) his webcam to witness more funnies XD
The really neat thing too is that he can speak and understand English nicely so we can converse with him and he even pays attention to chat too! This stream is just so awesome you should really tune in!

Would hope Dove treams on fish next time instead of playing around on iCCup
We don't pay any member of UED with a salary. To be fair it's not our goal and never will be. What we do provide is the opportunities to compete in events provided my UED Gaming that may provide cash prizes or other prizes from our sponsors.
The goal is to bring some really good talent to the foreign scene so we can enjoy streams like this and events such as the KOTH's and showmatch games. In the new year, we'll be introducing a number of interesting tournaments and showmatch games that I'm personally looking forward to already.
The more great players like Dove we can bring here on TL to stream the better i say. By the way UED is pretty new to the scene and aren't as established in the community as the likes of sas, Nb and LRM etc. Hopefully with the sponsors we have we can get there though.

Holy shiiit!! In_Dove, aMeBa[S.G], PianO[3.33], [3.33]Test(T) were pretty much my all time favourite bw players! This is magical! Anyone remember that game vs MidiaN on r-point? That series was sooo sick.

Well I have heard of UED. But did not know they had recruited Korean players. Thats why I asked. More so was wondering how they can pull the kind of talent they have. I didn't know they had the talent pool they did.
not to be a dick but, only 200/300 watching this stream? really? I thought the SC:BW community was as strong as the CS community. these classic and traditional games can't go out of the spotlight just because a sequel or new version comes out..
this stream is great, Dove talking about bisu: "very big... very big... I can't say --- Looks like a christmas tree" ROFLMAO.

Wow, no need for such an aggressive answer. He simply asked a legitimate question without any negative implications at all. And I hadn't heard about UED either like many people for sure.

Day9 in bw didn't have much more. But yeah, it's a pity. Michael is one of the top foreigner left in bw =)

cs is still one of the strongest communities, they chose 1.6, starcraft community "chose" sc2 cant really compare
BW foreign community really isn't that big anymore... even Hiya didn't get 1k viewers if i remember correctly. I'm not following a lot BW anymore either, but this player has a lot of skill which you can see very well in SC:BW and which is why i'm stopping by right now.^^ Plus... BW koreans streaming doesn't happen often.
The streams on TL get better and better: First Savior,an ex-BW pro, then Hiya, an ex-BW pro who tells us secrets of the daily progaming life, then Dove, an ex-BW pro who interacts with the foreign community. Next will be Bisu, an BW pro who will strip while streaming. Or rather, he will make us strip.

Bisu and other active BW pros streaming would never happen. =/
Damn, I joined watching mid-game, and I only realized at the gg he was playing Sziky Pretty good game, fascinating to see what it takes to so convincingly defeat Sziky. And now a rematch!

I know! this is madness, how can a someone just turn the back to a game with around 12 years of history just like that.
enough with SC2, I hope you guys can show your support to In_Dove, his stream feels like a blessing to even me, a long time CS player that fell in love with BW almost 2 years ago by watching NukeTheStars' OSL commentaries.
Sziky is so good, he's winning 2-1, and yes, he got to pump ultras every single game.

That would be pretty good as well, but I think that the reason most of the retire is because they are done with the part of their life that consists of them playing computer games a majority of the day.

That was such a great game. He answers cool question and I love his attitude, playing bio rather than mech because he likes it more <3 Thanks to Pro7ect and Sayle for the discussion too !
Stop asking him about SC2. He wants to stream his BW games and he's not sure about SC2. He's more comfortable with BW. He wants to continue to do the things he does very well.
man the stream was so good, really gosu play, i liked a lot the series against sziky and the funny questions, sayle going into his mental korean state, etc. i hope dove keeps streaming, and playing against good foreigners, i loved the show of today
Really great stream today. The BO5 with Sziky, couple of games with Michael, Lossilohi and others. Great fun to have Sayle and Pro7ect on the stream. Let's not forget In_Dian haha.
What an awesome stream yesterday. I'm so looking forward to the next one! Watching you play is more like watching an artist paint a picture. Even if he's not successful all the time, it's a pleasure to observe. I hope you stay for long and maybe a few other koreans will stream for us as well!
It was pure joy to watch (Even for a Zerg player to watch most Zergs owned ). I am looking forward to today's stream. I hope that as In_Dove's english improve, he may also like to give some tips on game to foreign players. Many thanks to UED Gaming and aaf.Cat (and SNM too) BW = Beatiful World

That's a tall order but it would be hella badass if we made it happen.
It makes me sad to see some sc2 streams go over 1000 views and then In_Dove gets barely 500 and he even said he will invite some ex progamers (today they mentioned GoRush) when he reach 1000, sure 1000 is a lot but still i don't get why some SC2 streamers can get so many viewers and a good Bw player doesn't, he even has conversations with the viewers, answers questions and explain the scene and the game (aided by a friend that translates it seems). Let's hope he gets to this 1000 and he even goes further than that!

I never followed Starcraft til SC2, but I'd rather watch a BW pro stream any day of the week. His mechanics alone are blowing 90% of the SC2 streamers away. SC2 fans need to stop being ignorant and learn the games roots yo.

He needs to invite ex-pros in order to get 1000+ viewers... not the other way around. Has any single bw stream on TL (non PL, OSL, MSL) ever gone over 1k after the SC2 streaming craze?

Yep Sayle has had more than 1k for a few foreigners event, max being 1800 for Ribbon Revival. It's definitely possible =)

Its like watching Picasso himself painting live for only a few of the fortunate ones. The brushwork, the curvature, the intricacy all have its Brood War equivalency of multitask, strategical sense and delicate control.
I do believe that the word "Craft" is an appropriate final touch of this game.
Today's streams were absolutely fuckin amazing! Seriously go watch them, SO GOOD. And then it just turns pure gold in the last 3. First his Vulture took 5 minutes to hop the wall in Outsider, then we managed to get him to play Paranoid Android and even Monty Hall! Needless to say, he played them perfectly and abused the fuck outta them, to our great enjoyment (:
More games against Octzerg! He just made an incredible comeback on Moon Glaive. I was *really* impressed with constant last-minute d-matrix on Science Vessels to protect them from scourge, it was just amazing.
THANKS TO SC2 PROS LIKE TLO, MRBITTER, HERO AND RET LINKING HIS STREAM HE HIT 1000 VIEWERS! THIS MEANS HE WILL BE PLAYING EX-PRO AND COMMENTATOR GORUSH (HOPEFULLY) ON HIS STREAM! :D

Massive respect to the pro SC2 players for their support on this one. Dove you're a credit to Brood War and so are all the people who enjoy watching your stream!
I watched 6-7 games, was really fun! The guy is cool, I asked him on Ladder C channel on iccup if he could play a TvZ in his next match and he answered me and did it :D

o.O how'd that work out XD o_o
He micro'd well enough that he didn't lose any SCVs and got P to leave without a single loss on his side (1 Zealot lost for P).

Edit: Could you please talk about Dove's SC2 endeavor over at his thread in the SC2 section instead of here (this of course goes to anyone else feeling the need to bring up matters of no interest to the general BW populace when there is a dedicated alternative outlet for doing so)?

It sux but he needs to make money for school, and with sc2 its way easier cuz he will get alot more viewers and people who will donate .
It was few other reasons, but after some talks between rotinegg and Dove (myself included during one part), seemed like Dove couldn't get rid of his passion as a progamer, and seemed serious when picking between education and college before he got drafted into the army.

It wasn't easy choice for Dove either.
When did he retired from BW btw? Retired due to army right?

If he was good enough I'm sure he would have rejoined SKT. When I saw his stream at the beginning I remember him saying that he didn't like SC2, so he clearly switched to SC2 because it's easier, and that's really a shame. That's probably the reason why most of the players switched.

You clearly don't know anything you're talking about so please don't give wrong information to others.

Really? I remember seeing him saying in stream chat that he loves BW and SC2.

He said that he really enjoys SC2 but still loves BW?

I'm not going to go into details because the discussion was done in Korean, which probably means that he doesn't want most information being revealed.
To sum it up: Dove quit progaming due to studies (because progaming does not guarantee good jobs in the future for any of the players), but still wanted to 'go large.' Sometimes he regrets his decision. After some talks, he decided to try SC2 full-time before going to the army (I don't know how long he has before going to army).
So I guess making a better decision for his life overall means he must be an idiot picking SC2 over BW.
Actually the source of confusion here is Dove. In one of the early streams there was a BW vs SC2 discussion and I'm absolutely sure he said something like "yeah SC2 is bad. too easy hehe". But he wasn't being serious as he clarified soon after when he explained that he likes both games but won't stream SC2 yet because he's not good enough at it atm.. He was just joking around. So there.
Anyway, I hope we'll still get to see some awesome BW action every now and then. This stream was the event I looked forward to each day and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Best of luck with anything you pick up though, you're a great guy!
He was actually streaming before on twitch, which is why I asked. He got decent viewer counts too iirc, varying between 300-500 most days.
He may have been streaming on both services at once, though I don't know for sure.
I think he tried once or twice. Perhaps the lag or talking to both twitch and afreeca viewers was too much for him. There is a single vod in his afreeca account which was recorded today .
I really liked Dove's stream on Twitch, he was really friendly and happy to interact with foreign fans! Also, from that interview I'd never seen, lol:
When I first started Brood War I didn’t have a computer at home. I had to use a computer Hagwon, and there was SC installed on there. One time I was playing and there was this older guy who I was learning with. He told me he wanted to teach me something, there’s a seniority thing in Korea and I had to say okay. He didn’t teach me anything. He started playing and half an hour later he was still playing and I went home crying.
One thing about the original Starcraft: The mineral counters were white, but in the expansion the mineral counters were green. When Brood War first came out the old man whispered to me to keep it a secret so no one swarms to play the new expansion.
We got like 10 games total on snipes + more on twitch Nobody's raging at anyone, we're just secretly plotting on getting rid of all mods and replacing them with our people.

Dove was a great player and a really nice person to hang around and chat with, during my time in [aLive] I actually got to know dove very well, his english is really good because he went to the university of seoul which is basically like harvard of korea I think :-P, Gosu Terran and really cool dude. GOGO DOVE.
Dove said he stopped playing LoL and wants to focus on BW only. Also that he might play in SoSPA, but needs to practice hard first. He will be streaming on both Afreeca and Twitch. Also he's looking for players to play on ICCup!
Since s2 was inactive and SKT couldn't play the playoffs of the unofficial SPL I wonder if there's any chance we'll see a new Terran in the lineup ^^. just saying.
