Figure I might as well pop the thread up now rather than later.
All of you who have followed Kim Hyungjoon in his quest to become a progamer in Season 1 (getting stomped by the Dutch monster ret in the process) along with us will be glad to know that the Teamliquid Fansub team will be kicked backed into action for 'Season 2'.
The first broadcast will be on the 21st of January (Friday) at 5pm KST. Hopefully, unlike last season, we'll be able to set ourselves a rough deadline of releasing the subtitles no later than a fortnight or so after the original episode airs.
That's about it, for now, I guess. Only three more days until it premieres!
Oh god so good, I'm wondering what rank Hyungjoon could reach on iccup. It's quite hard to evaluate his skills. He sure improved a lot during the show, but how good is he really ? Wait and see ! Thanks TL Sub team !
Apparently the auditions were run really badly, and people have complained a lot. They were told to come at 9 but something happened and they had to wait until 10 30ish, they weren't given enough time to prep, etc... Anyways, the auditions are over and the final contestants are going to be contacted soon.

That's bad :/ I can see why people would fail in doing well then and complain afterwards but hope there are some nice amateurs in between which can entertain us.
I bet his team will be full of partying and eating chicken every night ~_~ will their goal be to compete in proleague or something? Or most likely a in-house tournament commentated by hyungjun himself and shark
Woo, I absolutely can't wait for this, thanks TL fansub team! 8D
Hmm, I don't know if my skills are up to par for the awesome subbing team, but it can't hurt to try, right? I'll see what I can do to try to help as much as possible, but thank you in advance for the subs! ^^
Ah no, not again TT I was so glad that progamer thing was finally over, now he'll be at it AGAIN! Can't they still alter the formula a little, like Eunjung making a team or something? Anything but that attention-seeking pansy-hands Hyungjoon!
GL subbing, anything to keep the BW flame alive, even this ^^
I still have to finish Hyungjoon becomes a progamer someday, but I'll take a look at this regardless. I thought I read somewhere that it will be BW and the goal of the team will be to compete/win one of the amateur leagues. But I can't find the thread where it was posted. :/
YO MY TRANSLATOR BROTHAS <3 for doing this, wish I knew Korean or coding to help, but I have zero knowledge of both, so I can't but thanks anyway for the translations <3 <3 <3
so awesome the HungJoon show was so great and it was kept up to date the first weeks so it was pretty awesome to see it develop during that time. And Ret appearing was so funny / Baller. Translating teams needs a friggen medal or something, you guys just work your ass off for free. Much love and respect!

Stuff like Hyungjoon becomes progamer and Nal_ra's Oldboy have been the only things that I watch SC related recently and some of the most enjoyable shows too
edit: Shit, just read the OP again. Apparently there's gonna be an application process? Why do I always miss these things when I first read them...
If nobody's volunteered yet, I'll be the extra translator if still needed. Now that I've finished applying to grad schools, I don't have anything to occupy my time other than working in my lab, so this should be a nice way to spend my time as a distraction / hobby. I realize that the last time I was part of a translating team, I disappeared without any notice, but that shouldn't happen again with so few things to concentrate on anymore.
Just as a clarification, if I do do this, I'll have another person to work with me right? Because to be honest, I'm not at all familiar with the first version of the Hyungjoon show.
I will watch this for sure. Thanks in advance to everyone that will dedicate their time and skills into bringing us a subbed version. It's really appreciated by all of us I'm sure.
Honestly though do you guys really think he's going to become a pro gamer? First of all he's part of a boy band which comes with a contract from which ever entertainment company he signed with, and part of that contract involves him doing many tours and entertainment activities. So in conclusion there is not enough time in one day for him to practice and at the same time work on his entertainment career. My opinion on this matter is it's all script and just for publicity.

If i'm not wrong someone said their contract with the agency that handled their debut expired or something so they actually might be doing their own thing for a while.
No doublt that this is more publicity than anything ( especially the first season) but i do believe HyungJoon enjoyed the last show more than he thought he would ( call me naive) and that's why the follow up happens.
so does this mean yellow isnt going to be playing on KT (probably ever again)? :\ oh well. at least it's nice to see him staying around the BW scene as a coach (even if it's just an amatuer reality-show team and not a progaming team lol). I really wish boxer woulda stayed around as a coach instead of playing some game that i dont watch.
Whatever the case, that reality show was good exposure for esports. They could easily have done a reality show about the life of progamers but it wouldn't be half as interesting without Hyungjoon around.
On January 18 2011 17:28 GTR wrote: We have gathered enough translators, so what we desperately need now are experienced timers.
umm, what exactly is a timer?
You take the translators rough timestamps and you time it so that the text appears as the line is being said. It's a tedious task, and anyone who wants to help out must be willing to put in a few hours per episode because that's how long it takes to get things precise.

He tried his hardest with his schedule to become a progamer in the first season, this season is not about his starcraft playing but just him and his team environment. So in conclusion a television program needs ratings to stay alive, his last show had great ratings and now they're going to do more.

So what if he doesn't become a pro gamer? So what if hes just doing it for publicity? All that I know is, he looks like he tries, I am entertained by the show, this helps the BW scene, and he is doing his job. It's really a win-win situation.
On January 19 2011 12:45 swanized wrote: so what's hyungjoon's job on the team then if YellOw is coaching?
Strangling a cat. Intimidating a cat. Doing impressions of Papa bear. Trying to be the bad ass ****** ****** Doing flex with his muscles. Saying YO MY BROTHAA! Calling all those KPOP Idol girl groups to motivate Yellow and it's teammembers. Singing / dancing for the team.
Y'know guys, the last Becomes a Progamer show was so damm fun, I loved it, and I really appreciated the effort you guys put in, of your own free time, to get it to us non-Korean-Speakers.
I HAD TO WAIT A GODDAM MONTH IF NOT MORE FOR THE GRAND FINALE, I WAS LEFT ON THE DAMM CLIFFHANGER EPISODE AND ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE THREAD SPOILING IT AND ME TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENS GRRRRRRR!!!! DON'T, PLEASE DON'T postpone the fukin' finale episode for that long this time guys, PLEASE

It's not that they wanted to delay it. It takes a lot of time to sub and this is all voluntary. If the translator or timer isn't available, then there is nothing to be done.
I got into sc scene and TL because a friend that got the beta for sc2 recommended me this show. I enjoyed it so much, even without fully understanding BW, but that guy was just hilarious, I play zerg in sc2 just because i saw him and shark playing zerg! This season will be great, cant wait to see hyungjoon bringing like 3 KPOP idol bands at once to the team house!!
This is going to be awesome. Hyungjun is a huge fan of Yellow. I remember him asking Yellow for help in season 1. But somehow I can imagine him annoying the hell out of Yellow, just like he did Coach Ha in season 1.
Man, great news that its gonna be a new season for this.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't even finish the first season. I started this one first, but then got side-tracked half way when I started watching Nal-Ra's oldboy. For me, it was hard to go back to Hyungjoon's show. But now I'll probably finish it up, these type of reality shows are always so much fun.

WATCH S1 NOW :D:D
2 more days until we have subs!!!! Man I really need to start learning Korean to understand the shows without subs.
Can you indicate what a "timer" is? I won't be applying since it is evident I have no previous experience, but this is for future reference.
Thanks!

Man i can't wait ! Hyungjoon hasn't changed 1 bit since last season and his still as funny as hell woho :D. I'm still not completely done watching last season which i will do now ^.^
gogoggo cant wait cant wait cant wait !!! Will be awesome to see this! If I knew a lil bit of korean at least, I would help you guys without think it twice
Thanks Ryo for the clips; it's great to see Hyungjoon back in action again. XDDD I guess I'll just confirm for others that Hyungjoon is still his same ol' self with his craziness and random Engrish galore, and yes, the fun background sound effects are still there as well. It looks like we're in a huge treat for the first episode already!
All I will reveal more is that Stork got traumatized by Hyungjoon and is scared of him now, we get to see Hyungjoon's gaming skills after so long again, and Bisu is a trickster... I wonder if Hyungjoon's endearing nickname for Stork in that episode will catch on with everyone here, hahahah. And if you're dragged into Hyungjoon's team, his term contract is ridiculous.... The rules for his game team will slay everyone. XD
Lmfao, so Hyungjoon in the first episode is on a quest to catch the legendary TaekBangLeeSsang and recruit them in his team, huh? Looks like it didn't end up well for him... XDDD

Part 2 has been uploaded. The funniest part is when.. + Show Spoiler +
Hyungjun mistakes Doctor.K for a player then he realises his mistake. And Kwanro can't stop laughing while eating. lol

Hyungjun says "yo my sister" to the script writers/producers of the show occassionally. lol
Anyway, I did say to HyungJun "yo my brother" when my turn to get his signature in Singapore fan meeting and then he replied me "yo my sister" he's such a funny guy and really handsome in person. He keeps saying '"yo my brother/sister, yo man, come on yo~" whenever and wherever :D
Thanks Ryo for posting the video Ep1. Even though it's still not subbed but it's too fun to be watched. Also thanks to TL subs-team for subbing this show voluntarily + Show Spoiler +
sry at the double post was a mistake i watched a bit of the episode 1 and it does look like he wanna have stork bisu jaedong and flash for this team or i got it wrong?
I agree with stork running away from hyungjoon I too would have gone weary with a guy who is holding my hand so closely and tried to steal me from my progaming team -.-.
Setting a deadline would be amazing :o I think having it consistently would be awesome like, if we had 8 days after Koreans watch the show and its already subbed at our disposal, that would be supremely incredible thank you translators again <3
*The scene where Stork is hiding from Hyungjoon* (@12:58 in part 1) Hyungjoon: "Yah, are you gonna keep on hiding there and not come out?" Stork: "Yes, you're too scary" Hyungjoon: "You're really not gonna join my team then?" Stork: "Yup" Hyungjoon: *Sigh* "You're really stubborn, you. Are you a pumpkin?" *Turns around, eyes widening as he realizes his wordplay brilliance* "Very sweet pumpkin~"
Caption on screen: "Very Sweet Pumpkin Byung Goo~ ♥"
This... needs to be added to Stork's list of nicknames. Especially after + Show Spoiler +
Stork rolled Modesty and is now going to the OSL finals.
Very Sweet Pumpkin Byung Goo/Stork/Dinotoss. Take your pick. Heart symbol (♥) at the end is optional, but highly encouraged. Also must always end sentence using it with a tilde~ Example: "My very sweet pumpkin Byung Goo just roflstomped another scrub~ ♥"
Hyungjoon's wordplay revelation: Hyungjoon called Stork really stubborn, and the word "stubborn" in Korean is "danhohan", but he then turned "danhohan" into "danhobak", which means "pumpkin" in Korean.
Hyungjoon: "Seeya later then..." -Dramatic suspenseful music- What will Stork say to Hyungjoon who's given up on him?? Stork: "Okay, bye" (^O^)/ Hyungjoon: ***SHOCK*** *Falls to his knees, rejected*
Very Sweet Pumpkin. VSP Byung Goo. You know he's fucking sweet.
With hyunjoon returning i was actually wishing some kind of a more true esport programs like Nal ra Oldboy here's hoping one of the old pro gamers wanting to try out like nal ra to make a come back into the pro gaming scene although not likely it will happen T_T. Hyungjoon is all good but most of the time it is filled with his silly antics and your usual common jokes to keep the normal viewers entertain as if they have gone full fledge like nal ra oldboy showing the hardship it is to be a progamer it will definitely lose its viewer(your not esport viewers) . Though after all anything that raises the awareness and increase the interest base for brood war I am all behind it supporting it .

woo, i'm so pumped for this show! XD i really can't wait, im like a fangirl >< is Shark in this one too? I hope he is, Hyung Joon and Shark's friendship was really awesome in season 1
I can't understand a word of Korean, but from what I'm getting, he tried to put Stork, Bisu, Flash, and Jaedong on his newly formed team, LOL. Even for a fantasy proleague team that is outrageous, a real one is just hilarious.
EDIT: I just realized, he could get EFFORT!!! AHHH! While unlikely, it would be awesome!
A friend of mine I met just after I started watching the first series, so I almost burst-out laughing when he started saying, "yo my brotha," to me. Totally coincidental, but he says it all the time. He's an Asian with accent, which is why it's so great.
Hyung Joon is still great at begging it seems. If he could get Effort and Forgg, he would have a competitive team right there. Unfortunately this will never happen.
Ah, it's such a shame Effort quit. Maybe with Jaedong slumping and with pressure from the CJ zerg Hydra he could've been ranked nr 2 now. His record against Flash in 2010 (during his prime) is also extremely impressive, 5-2, especially since he most likely would have won the power outage game. And only 1 of those games were in the team-leagues, which means Flash was very much prepared.
On January 24 2011 06:53 dukethegold wrote: Don't retired players lose their license? Effort is only good enough to rape ICCup at this point after months without military regime practice.
Haven't saw the episode yet, but I am really curious what sort of half assed team comes out of this.
I'm gonna heavily doubt that. If you watch 1a2a3a play (he quit), he is still beyond excellent. And we are talking about Effort here, the man is a freaking macro machine. I'm sure if he wanted a license, he could either get it back by a team giving it to him, or run through courage after a try or two. All he would need is a week or two to get back in shape.

So i just took a glance at the unsubbed ones released in page 8 of this thread and noticed that it was only 240p. Is it always gonna be 240p or could we see higher quality in the future? Not bad for a 240p video but i prefer to see my favourite show in its finest.
didn't have any other choice since Yellow beat him the first time with 2 drones lol. That all in was probably the only way Hyungjoon could beat yellow.
lol when he was explaining that he wanted to get TaekBangLeeSsang in some sort of board room there were alot of tossgirl pics. Got me hoping tossgirl would somehow be involved in this.
On January 24 2011 07:21 Chimpalimp wrote:or run through courage after a try or two. All he would need is a week or two to get back in shape.
Courage would be ezpz for Effort. There are B-teamers who have won courage, but never showed anything in official games. Not even a super-talent of Flash's caliber would stop him, because you can't reach Effort's level without practicing with elite players.
Not a very exciting episode. I guess it's because it's mostly about the audition process. Kong couldn't attend the audition because of the KT-Oz match. But during the meeting with Hyungjun he did a little bit of the Kong dance. So look out for that.
I could probably stream this show Live when it comes on but I'm not sure how well my computer would handle the streaming (if it would be laggy, etc.).. Also, not sure how many people are actually interested in watching the non-subbed version anyhow. Thanks for taking the time to sub this series, looking forward to it!
Ep. 2 (unsubbed) YT version, the rest of parts can be watched at the same channel. I'm still waiting the subs version of Ep.1. Hope it will be released before Ep. 3 starts airing~

You can look at a timing tutorial like this. It's for animes, but I doubt there's a big difference.
The problem is, even as a timer you need to recognize some basic words.

I can recognize a lot of korean words but I'm still 21 months away from school vacation. I may time (using the tutorial lol) but it maybe very slow due to noobiness and school. Why dont you guys ask.... TL sub Team: Hey guys we have 2 show to sub this season Boxer's wings or Hyungjoon forms a game team! Which one do you prefer to sub first !! Make a poll? T_T
Wouldn't make sense to poll that. One is about SC:BW, the other about SC2. Honestly, we've had enough BW vs SC2 debates on TL.net already.
Since the subs are made by fans on their free time, they ought to be able to choose what they want to spend their time on. Trying to force people to sub something they're not interested in isn't a very good idea For now, all we can do is wait and hope someone with sufficient knowledge in korean steps up for the community.

Yeah I know, personally I'd rather watch HJ than Boxer, but there's not much that can be done about it if no-one's interested in taking time to sub it.
I think one issue is that you guys are asking for such experienced subbers which I don't know how many of them are ON teamliquid, you have plenty of translators since naturally there are many korean speaking people here on TL. Isn't it possible that you could teach some of these hardcore fans of the shows that know Korean how to sub? There are people who have the ability that want to help out, take their offers where they are presented.

I guess this was to be expected really... Everybody is busy with school and the average TL member is getting older. It seems hard to find the time to do translations while balancing work/school. Not to be pushy but I hope there is a chance of reconsidering the translations during the summer =]. Maybe my 코리안 will be good enough then to offer my help and maybe learn how to time subs.

I already PMed Roffles about helping with the timing. I know a little korean, I don't care being burned out and I can still be an honor student without spending time for studying, but it would be my first time doing it. It had been a day and I'm still waiting for his reply. Maybe I'm not in for the job .
I can get this series with spanish subs but someone will have to translate in english. I think that is simple... I just talk to a guy in a korean sub team in my country =D
I'm sure all of you are gravely disappointed that Episode 1 won't be released tonight. Unfortunately we were plagued with internal problems that I'd rather not discuss.
However, on a positive note, Episode 2 is almost translated. I've personally decided to time some of Episode 1, and I've done around 10 minutes in or so, so don't panic that this won't get off the ground.

@GTR not to be bashing, but what do you mean by translated for episode 2? you mean its timed in sync with the video ( since that is what takes most of the time) or just the speech translated in to english

The script for episode 2 is almost done translated from Korean to English, that's what he meant. Had he had said "episode 2 is timed", it would mean that what was transcribed is now matched up to the dialogue. Translating, timing, encoding a video requires a lot of effort, so don't be too pushy.

This made my day, seriously. The (unintentional, mind you) irony of Artosis' statement is just perfect!
10 minutes of them just running around collecting members who got accepted 5 minutes of random people congratulating the creation of the game team (wtf)
some kids who participated in MBC's elite school league play against them and all 5 people on the team got schooled pretty damn hard. they sucked a lot.
This is sick, thanks for doing this! I loved the first series, and a second one is great news. GL with the translating, timing and all that jazz. Wish there was a way I could help.
Mmm, I think I'll wait until the series runs its course and then just binge out on all of them in one weekend lol.

He wasn't asking what Hyung means - he clearly knows what it means. I'm wondering about his question as well.
Pretty sure Artosis isn't trying to BM anyone. He started off by saying possibly as well as mentioned how under wraps the whole Hyungjoon thing was. What're the chances of him knowing? Umm... I'll try again then.. "... is used to show respect." And no you don't have to say Hyung, If that's the detail you wanted lol, but it's very disrespectful if you don't. You can say, Kim hyungjoon-ssi Which is sort of like "Mr hyungjoon" (used if you don't really know the person, in korean you don't adress someone "you", because it's considered rude. ) Hyungjoon Hyung (used when you know the person, and used to show respect)

Well firstly, Hyung is far more common a name compared to Sirloin. Secondly, it's also a completely different culture. It would be myopic to automatically assume this in Korean language.
and as far as i understand it, it is an honorific used by males to refer to older males. if you're being polite when talking about hyung joon, which is only his given name, then i would assume hyung joon hyung is how you would refer to him. alternatively, you could just use hyung in a bit more casual situations i suppose.
korean speaking people come help!
edit: ok so what i'm thinking of is.. xiao jie is how you would refer to a young lady, so if a chinese person had a given name of xiao, you would still call them xiao xiao jie.
ok, now to talk about these episodes...surprisingly boring tbh. bad plays from the team members (REALLY, REALLY bad. yeah, sure, you're up against most likely high-leveled players but at least get the build orders right. that protoss at the end was okay, but he never teched to arbiters....-_-). could be just all in a script to emphasize their improvement in the upcoming episodes, but i am unsure of how these members (out of all the applicants) were chosen. It's disappointing, actually, since I really enjoyed watching the first "season" of hyungjoon's show. this is not living up to the hype

There's a free software called Subtitleworkshop that let you create subtitles 'on the fly', the TL sub team should use it, it's really easy to use and subtitles can be done & sync very quickly. http://www.urusoft.net/downloads.php?lang=1

Cant wait for ep n°1, thanks!
Aegisub tends to be the default ASS editor used these days by subbing teams. From what I've seen, its the only one still actively developed.
From what I can see, subtitle workshop seems like it would do fine, but it apparently breaks some of the ASS standards, which can cause issues if different people use different editors.

Well uh, since I am on the qc team and added a little quirk in, I guess that it's completely my fault that it got left in, lolz. I really didn't expect for it to be left in though. ^^;;
I personally don't really like added side comments myself (only in videos though, since subs tend to pass by quickly and can too much on the eyes, but in text interviews I abuse and drop 'em all over the place lmfao), so I will try to refrain from putting any more little snarks in the future. I also request that any comments from the translators be left out. That's just my personal request though. Comments can be sometimes fun though. And if the people want them, then so be it!
Can someone edit the OP so all the episodes are in the same place, so people don't have to go through 20+ pages to find bits and pieces of this series?

havent watched yet but one thing applies already u guys rock thx for your effort and looking forward to the next subbed show. Every one i watched until now was a highlight and thanks to you guys i didnt miss it
Awesome job, thanks very much to the subbing team, you are the best guys! Now I'm waiting impatiently for next one, I hope its as entertaining as first ep (5 pooling already crippled Yellow was made of win lol).
Bisu looked so happy when Hyungjoon mentioned the girl groups lol... The message he sent was golden as well; "I don't think I can do it" And poor, poor Yellow ^^
First I want to say a big thanks to everyone involved in this project. And now to my rant, that is actually about the show itself. I saw only the translated part 1 so far and I must say I'm pretty disappointed. I sort of liked Hyungjoon becomes a progamer, because it had its moments every now and then and was the first show I watched about progamers. But still huge parts seemed to me boring/forced/even embarassing. Then I watched Nal-Ra's old boy and I liked it a lot. So naturally I'm not happy about this show being even worse in the terms of...its stupidity I guess, than the previous one. What's worse I didn't even find it funny one bit. Maybe the Bisu part was sort of amusing but that was it. And I think it's the main protagonist's fault.
So as I said in the beginning, not even your excellent translation and sub-timing can redeem this show for me. Yeah I will probably watch one more part or two, but only because I want to see how Yellow reacts to the stupid behavior of that loser.

"I think you should distance yourself from him". Laughed hard at that.
Btw was it only me or did this first episode feels so much stricter scripted than anything last season?
Yeah, I feel the first season episodes flowed much more naturally than this first episode of season 2.
I dont know if the show will live up to the expectations created by season 1, but here I'm hoping lol
There should be a Nal_Ra OldBoy season 2 too, showing Nal_Ra coming back to the progaming scene (BW or SC2, he is awesome no matter the game) after military service.
Hi, i dl-ed the torrent off teamliquid, but when i finished, the video had static running throught it and i cant see anything, on another note; there is a red arrow instead of the normal green arrow when i'm dling it (using utorrent) whats going on? and how do i fix it
Wow, I haven't been following BW as closely as I used to and it's great to see programs still being made for it. I'm interested in how this will all unfold..
I downloaded the subbed ep.1 for a while, but haven't had time to watch the whole thing yet.
Just one thing I wanted to suggest for the future episodes. Some of the sub-titles don't seem to last long enough for me to read them. I don't read slowly either, and it's not like they're talking really fast on the show. There are usually quite noticeable blank spaces in between the next sub-title as well, so I don't think it's necessary to cut the sub-title off the moment they stop talking. If possible, please lengthen the amount of time the sub-titles stay on screen as I currently have to pause the video every few seconds to read the subs, or I end up having to rewind 2 seconds whenever I don't catch the whole sentence.
Otherwise, TL sub team are doing a great job, and I'm looking forward to subs for ep. 2
^ Just pause the video and read it whenever there is a long subs sentence! How hard can it be? I did that, im sure few people here did that. Though its still a good suggestion.

Yeah, I had to pause sometimes as well. Thanks for suggesting that.
I too am excited for ep 2. It can only get much better from here, and it's already better than the original.

Love the subbing but got confused by the opening post.

They are now having solo activities because after their contracts ended with DSPent, they went to different companies. They said they would come back as SS501 though.
The Hyungjoon becomes a progamer was kind of entertaining at the start, but at the end he started acting weirder and weirder, and making the progamers uncomfortable (by the looks of it)
Seems like they decided to keep that theme up for this show... =/ Oh well, either way, thanks for the work put into bringing us these kind of shows with subtitles.
STORM-V uniform, the rest of group pics can be seen on http://twitpic.com/photos/501gamedan since this uniform is designed by HyungJun's brother n sponsored by their own company, so u can see there is a PiroPiro cartoon logo on the uniform
When I was in korea, I asked a few koreans about the show & Hyungjoon, I have to admit that I really haven't watched all of his shows. Not 1 korean even knew his show and all kept telling me that to them, Hyungjoon itself is a complete douchebag, a d-list & idiot, even a disgrace for the ppl around him who acts totally stupid and is immature - lol. I was earning really harsh reactions thats why I didn't even bring up the topic again.
Still I wanna thank the TL Subs team, but I want to point out that a non hardsubbing way would be the better choice because subtitles can then be set to a personal favor.
Thanks for the translation and subbing! Are you going to upload to MU/MF/RS or some file sharing site? That'd be more convenient for me and maybe other people.

I was really entertained by his attempt to become a progamer and even though had points where I rolled my eyes it was still great. The best aspect was we got to see the inside of a pro team with them just having fun with Hyungjoon.
However I'm not sure if I can agree with the premise of this show no matter how entertaining. I haven't watched the first episode and can't atm, but I don't see how the players who will form his pro team can feel safe when Hyungjoon is just doing this for fun more than anything. Even if he is taking it seriously he still needs to divide his attention between his job as an idol and team manager.

they don't. that's why nobody wants to join his team. i get the feeling that eventually his team is going to be made up of pop stars, random ex-ACE progamers and tossgirl

Oh I didn't think he would try to get Stork, Bisu, JD and Flash. I thought he was trying to get amateurs first. I know this show is meant to be funny, but it felt insulting as a fan when he didn't even show basic understanding of the pro BW scene.
I'll still enjoy it for the parts where we get to see inside progaming houses, but it's annoying at the same time the way he tried to recruit them. Although I was surprised Bisu was a push over to "recruit" and that Flash recommended Yellow. Isn't Yellow under a new contract with his team so he wouldn't be able to leave anytime soon? I suppose I need a refresher on how the contracts work because I thought they could only leave when their contract is up, forget that the four didn't want to join, but legally I thought they couldn't.

it's probably all staged before hand as you can notice there are cameras in the house before hyungjoon even gets there as for yellow, definitely set up, there's no way he would randomly agree to coach the team i'm sure he'll still perform duties for KT like coaching but i don't see him playing in any matches with all the distraction from the show

episode one is out! I checked a while ago and the translators were all busy and the project looked doomed. I understand that this takes a lot of time and effort, so thank you thank you thank you!
glad to see he's back but first episode was kinda me annoyed his personality is entertaining but it was pretty annoying seeing him trying to guilt the pros into basically a non serious job from their actual serious, stable job felt sorry for Yellow

Don't take the show so seriously. Chances are preeeetty good that the coaches/players knew about the visits/calls beforehand, you know.

I think it's all staged and scripted. Even Bisu agreeing in the first place is definitely a script with Bisu knowing that no way Coach Park would let him do this. What coach would let his ace player participate in this? I hope to see Bisu as a guest in the show though. Maybe for an episode like ooV and Pusan did (I have a feeling that Hyungjoon still want to flick/be flicked in the forehead by Bisu.)
I have a question to the translation team: Which part of this process is the main reason why everything is so delayed? If the actual translation isn't the problem, I could easily settle for something less than what you made with ep 1. Just a written transcript posted here on TL with the dialogues only would be enough for me, and I could even settle without or with incomplete timings. I just want to see the show, and if you guys aren't feeling it, I think we should lower the expectations in terms of quality.
Haha loved it! Finaly had the time to check it out. Of course it's all scripted but it's fun nonetheless. Funny how yellow was sweating and the contract was so random :D
Thanks guys for the translation! I had to press pause at times to catch up because there is talking and mad text going on. You guys are awesome!!
I'm sure they did the timing as best they could. You can't let if lag behind if they're talking fast, because then the subtibles won't have anything to do with what's going on.
On February 25 2011 05:32 ReiKo wrote: Everything is fine but subtitles are too fast sometimes, they come and goes without giving me a chance to read.
Same concern here, the subtitles were just a lil bit too fast in episode 1 especiallt for a foreigner not having english as native language.
Yes. I have similar complaints, and English is my native language. The TL sub team seemed to have this problem in previous seasons too. Please listen to these comments, whoever is doing the timing.
I know it is a TONNE of work, and I'm grateful, but if you're gonna put so much time and effort into it, you should do it right! That sounds really harsh, and I'm sorry, but I am someone who watches a lot of foreign films with a lot of talking, and TL Subs are the only group I have to actually pause the video every few seconds to read what they're saying.
There's a lot of times when it is unnecessary for the line to disappear. It goes away, there is nothing on the screen, he's still talking, and it's just confusing.
Please think about this for future releases. I was never critical in previous releases by this team, because I thought issues like this would be resolved when you guys gained more experience. The only reason I bring it up seriously now is because I want you guys to notice it is an issue, in case you are unaware. We're all super supportive because it's TL and hell yeah, who else would do this for us, but there is room for improvement.
Thanks.
PS: Maybe the people on the team are just speed readers haha. A good rule of thumb is that most people read in their head as fast as they can speak
I did a chunk of the timing on the episode, and had some nasty problems with how fast people talked, and them talking over each other.
Looking at it again, you are totally right, the subs go too fast in some places. I only had time to do a single pass of timing, and didn't go back to make sure I hadn't been cutting it too short.
If I end up working on a future release I'll probably do something to differentiate speakers visually so the subs can stay up significantly longer.
If you want to differentiate between two people talking at the same time, colored text is usually the way to go. That way, even if there are two different lines of text onscreen at the same time, you can still tell who's who.
I'd rather have the lines accurately portray who's speaking and when, rather than have a huge multicolored block of text on screen for the entire duration of the back and forth conversation to help people who can't keep up. Just because you can't keep up doesn't mean that the subs have to slightly lag behind or be put in huge chunks. Then you might as well go read a script.
In fact, I think it's the correct way to do it, and the cleanest way as well. If you don't like it, then I'm sorry?
Keep in mind, they're all amateurs, and they're doing it for you guys. Cut them some slack, since not everyone has had prior experience in these matters. The squad has changed, new people have been brought aboard, give them some time to adjust.
As for the delays, it's simple. Designated person A said he was gonna do it, bailed at the last second. Designated person B brought in, helped a bit, then bailed due to personal reasons. It's hard to get stuff going when people keep bailing, and there's minimal coordination when it comes to who's doing what and when.

Thanks. I know it is a pain in the butt to time things, and it takes a few goes to get right. Stacking what people are saying on top of one another is an option, but I don't think it is totally necessary. There are enough places where there are no subs on the screen that you can simply leave the text up in. If you are still short on time, perhaps the translation needs to be a little more concise. Still, I think you will be just fine if you use up the time where there is no text on the screen right now. I am not a fansubber myself, but perhaps it would be fruitful to ask for some pointers from well established fansubbers (I suppose, just look around the anime community).
Good luck :O I hope your internal problems get worked out and you can develop a well-coordinated team.

I think the way you do it now is the best. I understand who's talking and when it's a producer commentary and since we can download it anyway there's always the pause button. I rather rewind real quick then not having the extra subs at all.

+ If u are used to reading subs (anime ftw =) ) it's not to fast at all and my English is far from good.
I am used to watching subs -.-) I'm in the 4th year of my English degree... I cannot read them without pausing many times. In those 23ish days I never had to pause once for dialogue, and they're pretty much all amateur-we-work-for-free subbers.
I don't think I'm just stupid :o
PS: To clarify, I'm not saying it isn't hard work or it isn't a hard problem to overcome. If it really is the case that this show's dialogue just makes it really hard to get everything, I apologise for making an issue of it. The show is probably quite a bit more chaotic with its dialogue than what I am used to watching.
After watching the first episode, i still think Hyungjoon becomes a progamer is much better show (in terms of quality of the content, not the subs) is it just me?
man I had this dream last night that like 9 episodes were released all at once, fully subbed. Then I tried despratly to delete some comment I made about subs comming out slowely and I couldnt find it in time and ended up being banned from tl.

Yes, season 1 was better. It had the whole MBCGame HERO team for one thing. Season 2 only has Kong. But it was always a tough act to follow. Season 1's peak ratings was the highest ever in Korea for a non-live esports programme.

Actually, the reason I was doing timing is because I've done timing for anime subbing before. edit: to clarify, timing anime and timing a show like this is very different (to me that is). The speed and style of speech is completely different.
Its interesting to see different people's opinions on this. I know that I read subs very fast, and I honestly can't think of the last time I had to pause anything to read the subs (unless it was a sign up for a frame or two)
But it is pretty clear that there is a sizable set of people who are having issues with the sub speeds. It is a general opinion (in the anime subbing community) that stacking subs is really really nasty, and should be avoided at almost any cost. This seems to be a contentious point here, but I think it bothers more people than not.
So without stacking, there are still going to be sections in a show like this that have subs go by really fast. Maybe the best option is to color-code speakers, and do stacking only in extreme cases?

Well, yeah. These subs are alot slower than than most fansubbed anime. For example Bakemonogatari, which is an incredible series.
If you want to learn how to read faster I recommed books rather than movies though. Make a habit of reading for an hour or so before you go to bed and you'll improve surprisingly quickly.

Because it sounds like you're demanding subs, which is rude. The subbing team is giving up a lot of their time to provide us with this free service. Just be thankful that this show is getting subbed at all.

Actually typically the op is updated a bit after the episode is released. usually the sub team posts the link for dl in the thread.

We're not doing it for ourselves, we're doing it for the community.
It might take a while to complete, but you have to understand that majority of people work out of their own free time. From writers to translators to liquipedia. It's what makes TL go. The passion, desire to get stuff out so that others can enjoy it as well. That's what Teamliquid's all about. Not $.
I understand that while it's taken a while to get stuff out as of late partially due to a lack of internal organization, all I can really do is just ask for people to just bear with us as we get stuff figured out. Whatever's happening, we'll let you guys know.
Well some people may just want to give back to the people who are giving to the community... and the TLsub team can use the money on TL or w/e... its not a bad thing just a bit of compensation or self-reward for hard work for the entire community
here's the problem. the TL staff team has approximately 150 members. some of these members have much more visible roles, writing articles, doing these subs, moderating the forums. but there are also many other staff members who keep TLPD/liquibets/fantasy PL updated, work on coding projects, etc.
no one on TL staff works for the sake of money. as cheesy as it sounds, we do it for the sake of contributing to the community. i mean look at HB as a prime example. if he wanted to follow the money he'd be working at a bigshot law firm in NYC, not working TL. people do all their work because of their love of TL.
TL prides itself on our intimate relationship with our userbase. almost no other website of our size can make that claim. we don't want to abuse that relationship by constantly pandering for donations, even if they are initiated by the users.
maybe someday in the future we'll become some megaenterprise and become the ESPORTSN of and have a profit-driven business model. but at this point, that's definitely not where we're at.
LOL Yeah that was probably the funniest moment in episode 2... I never thought that someone in Korea would listen to that song. So fucking random man lol.
Thanks subbing team <3 you all <3 <3 <3. Episode 2 was pretty interesting, and I think the castings were pretty hilarious, and I can't wait till the next episode to see who were the picked players

It works fine for me, maybe you should try updating your player or try using a different one, I would recommend VLC player.
would have hoped for papa bear to coach this team though =( oh well yellow is also awesome too
r
Yeah I have a liking for papa bear after seeing National Geographic's coverage of Starcraft ("World Cyber Games") but Yellow is cool too
wait...that guy who had to back up XellOs, the "24 year old grizzled Papa Bear" is the first season of Hyung Joon's show coach? The fat one with the frog sound effects?
Anyone know the song that starts around 4:15~ ish? It's killing me because I know I had this album before, but I can't quite remember the artists' name. ~_~
The horn of Gondor guy wants to take us to a gay bar lol.
It's a bit sad that they had to pick 12 before they even got to play, because I'm pretty sure some of the gosu players didn't get a chance. But the actor with the singing voice and the guy he played with impressed me the most. It's not easy to pull off mnm micro against zealots, and the other guy did a good job defending against two ppl at the same time. Even if the opponents suck, it takes a lot of skill to pull that off.

Yea it's sad cause you'll know this team is going to be a joke now. They looked for personalities instead of talent to make the show more watchable

Personally, I'm fine with that choice. I'm watching this show to be entertained, after all. In any case, it's not like there's a definitive way to determine what somebody's skill ceiling is. And you have to admit, one of the people in the first game had pretty decent mnm micro. I wouldn't count them out quite yet.

no. but He said he liked "papa bear" what hyungjoon called the coach. and the other guy thought he meant the player. just a missunderstanding :D

I'm not entirely sure if I got it right but the interview with the judges is the round of 60 and it was the third round. In the second round they had game mechanics and control test. But yes, I guess they just want people which are okay to decent skill-wise but good entertainers.
after episode 1 i had lost a lot of hope for this series but this episode was actually very entertaining! and lol i think yellow and hyung joon together is freakin hilarious
hm... is there any reason the youtube upload takes so much longer after the download to be put up? (personally i prefer dling it, but i was just wondering )
Thanks for the subs! So far I like ep2 more than ep1 actually. Hip-thrusting guy was the best. The interaction between Hyung Joon and Yellow is really entertaining too, they have good chemistry.
So that how progammers are pick for teams !!! And I thought they use the mortal kombat system Im pretty sure that yellow hates his life right now hahaha
didnt like ep2 as much...sure it was funny and served its purpose as a variety program...but from the perspective of someone who loves watching games, i didnt get to see enough. the 2v2s were meh and some of the auditions were just to embarrassing to watch lol not sure whats going to happen later in the series but if they do successfully form a team, i wanna fast forward to the bit where they start playing real progamers

if u wanna see games u should watch SWL or MST or whatever, this is an entertainment show
What the hell, it's going to episode 8 already?! What happened to episode 3 or am I missing something I really love watching this, because he is quite funny.
Ugh it was like watching a train wreck. HJ couldn't simply call Yellow before setting up the audition or did he make it before Yellow was even "recruited?"
I don't like how much the important the interview process was for picking the members of the team as well. It was like a weird talent competition more instead of the audition for a progaming team. Narrow it down with interview process sure but for things relevant for a proteam like SC experience and time commitment. Have them play 1v1s instead of 2v2 too and have 6 players instead of 5, 2 for each race. For all we know it could be 4 terrans and 1 protoss for his team.
I get this show is for entertainment and probably is scripted to a degree, but he's screwing around with people that aren't actors.
Stop asking all the time guys, just wait patiently! As people said before, this is something do in their free-time and nagging them about it does not help
Sorry for that probably dumb question, couldn't find an answer to this yet: Does Season 1 (Hyung Joon Becomes a Pro Gamer) end with episode 9? So, there is no footage about how he got his pro gaming license?

There is no progress. I have absolutely no idea what's going on, who's on the job translating, or what's even supposed to be happening right now.
Really? This would make me super sad. I really appreciate the sub team and everything they do. Thanks a lot for all of last season and hopefully the rest of this season!

If you need timers, you can PM me. I'm a noob with aegisubs(I already tried it. I just need more experience) but I'm completely wasting every 24 hours of my summer vacation days. I also know some korean. I hope that I can help with this project .
sorry to say this, but it looks like this project will be indefinitely on hold, a lot of the original translators have decided to disappear from the website, and with no manpower to translate the script now, we can't really progress.
i will leave it to any possible ss501 fansubbers to take over this project if possible.

It's good that you came out with an official statement atleast. Now maybe someone will step up and do the job himself.

OUCH! Well, it is okay, we still love you guys. Let's hope someone else can take up the reins but no hurry... doing something out of love demands resolve to erase hopes of a paycheck from the mind, no? =3

Aaaw. What a shame ;( Was really looking forward to watch this series. If anyone ever finds someone else who are translating these series, please update this thread with info

Please do so. I may time but It won't happen without a translator. I hope some more peeps here that knows korean would volunteer to revive this project .
Maybe we could all chip in some cash as payment for anyone who translates? Might give more incentive to do it.. I know I'd easily pay 10 bucks or more for this. And if 100 people do that it's a pretty neat $1000 reward. Dunno how to organize it though..

They sont want money, they do it to help out the tl commuity.
Can someone who watched the whole thing and understands post a spoiler type review of the remaining episodes or just an overview of the series? I'm curious how this turned out even though we'll probably won't get it fully translated.
I assume this went nowhere otherwise it would be news even before the show finished in Korea and the point of the show is sillyness. Still interested if anything worth noting happened.
Well I think the season 2 finale (total 10 episodes) was sometime during late March (according to some blog posts on Naver). Most people are saying it wasn't as interesting as season 1 (Hyungjoon becomes a progamer), but there are good moments nonetheless.

There's no point in bumping this because the project has been put on hold. It's not like translators have forgotten about it, there's just not enough manpower to carry out the project
im surprised that there are so few koreans on tl =/ but in some countries children learn foreign languages by watching television so i guess i use it to learn korean =)
Wow such a buzz kill to see this thread bumped. I forgot about the show after episode 2 was done so I was like, Wow! I forgot about this! and see it is on hold.

Watching youuu is all I wanna doo, lalalala lalalala lalalala lalalala dubiedubdubduub Ah the torment lol I can feel along with the pain above. The manpower that is missing I think are Korean translators, should be enough of the other stuff available, timers, typesetters. Since the latter can be somewhat done if you can't understand what's going on. So if you can translate or you know someone that can do that. Post here or PM lokiM, I think he has a bit of overview on how it's standing. Fighting!
I just started watching season 1 and am only on episode 7, But this show is hilarious and amazing. I really hope this season 2 gets translated as well.. hopefully soon
