I really love this time of FPL because it's a lot like when a new expansion of Magic the Gathering gets released. You get to see what new builds are out and what neat tech choices people are making. Each season of FPL, I automatically start hitting the charts to see what some of the more popular players came up with build-wise. In this short article, I picked out a few that I believe could become heavy contenders this season, and discuss some tech choices that players have made for the new round of FPL. Radfield Main Team: Baby, Calm, Action, Free, Neo.G_Soulkey (Captain), Stork, and Woongjin Stars Anti Team: Anytime, EffOrt, Violet Radfield's team emphasizes play time and consistency. Free, Calm, Stork, Action, and BaBy are all easy shoe-ins for play time, in particular this week where four out of the five are playing twice. Unlike a lot of other teams that fielded six point players, Radfield packed two seven pointers, Calm and Stork. Having these seven pointers allows a lot of trade flexibility between top players and the high potential for ace match picks week-to-week. If STX or KHAN is having a one game week, Radfield can easily switch up with players like ZerO or EffOrt who may have easier schedules and shift back when necessary, therefore maximizing his weekly points. BaBy is the must-have pick for this season's FPL, and has proven to be a consistent scorer. If he continues his success, Radfield can either keep him or potentially even trade-up for a current five pointer like Kwanro if the opportunity arises. With his 7-7-5 picks, Rad was forced to grab a one-pointer - Soulkey. This is potentially a great pick. Even if Soulkey doesn't play, he should earn around five-to-six points on Star power, and if he does play and win a few games, that's just pocket change for Radfield. Putting him as captain also increases Rad's trade flexibility, ensuring that he can rotate any slumping player out. Soulkey most likely wouldn't have been able to trade for any quality player this season, even with a grip of wins - better him as a captain then someone like Stork, who he'll want to trade later down the line. Even without trades, Radfield's main team should keep him in the top 300 without any problems as long as the players remain as consistent as they've been round-to-round this season. Kyuukyuu Main Team: Action, free, JangBi, Really, Sea, Neo.G_Soulkey, Woongjin Stars Anti-Team: Anytime, Bisu, HoeJJa In many ways, Kyuu's team is similar to Radfield. He's got Woongjin as his main team, and Soulkey as Captain along with free and Action. Their teams diverge here, however, with Kyuu opting to sub out the seven pointers for not just two, but three six pointers - JangBi, Really, and Sea. The principle remains the same; Kyuu built a team that emphasized play time, consistency, and ace match potential. By going with a set of six pointers, however, allows Kyuu to potentially open the door for a really strong team later down the line, something along the lines of Stork, Calm, and ZerO alonside Free and Action, both which could upgrade as well. JangBi, Really, and Sea on their own are strong point grabbers and will play a tremendous amount as always, but if any of these players go on early streaks, that will open the doors wide open for Kyuu. The only issue I have with this team is that it doesn't really have a strong Week 1 opening. Action, Really, and Sea only have one game this week and may counter one another due to the hidden roster format. In the long run, though, Kyuu can potentially make that up on the strength of his lineup, something that few others have. Dyno Dyno, on paper, looks like a risky player with his team builds (including a really crazy Air Force ACE inspired one a few season's back I believe), but I think he's one of the well-thought out players in FPL. He's brought together another really cool team this season with Jaedong as a headliner and a most unusual pick in WeMade FOX. Main Team: BaBy, Kal, Midas, fOrGG, Jaedong, MVP, and WeMade FOX Anti-Team: FireFist, Really, sKyHigh WeMade FOX could very well be a fanboy pick by Dyno, but after last nights results you could also say that was a pretty damn brilliant pick by the FPL veteran. Armed with one of the few reasonable four-Terran rosters in the league along with potentially an annoying Zerg duo, WeMade's quasi-flexibility and potential to map-abuse could prove to be fantastic pick in the early going. With OZ, a team that completely lacks depth, later this week, Dyno may find himself being able to trade FOX off for a very strong team by the end of the week if he wants. Like most teams, Dyno came packaged with BaBy and fOrGG, two favorites in this round for their recent consistency, and Kal who remains one of the top Protoss in the league long after most have fallen. These are really strong, solid compliments to Jaedong who - despite people calling slumped and overprice - will be earning Dyno mad points like he does every season thanks to ace matches. Even if Jaedong loses a few games, his ace matches quickly recover his losses and generally makes the payout worthwhile. If you look at the past several FPL teams, Jaedong and Flash have been the core of most top teams. I expect that to be a likely probability once again this round. Finally, his cheap picks - Midas and MVP. Midas looks like a real gold mine this round considering his recent starleague play. Many players opted for Pure this round, but Midas was easily the best two-point pick in my opinion. A strong TvT is a real commodity right now, and he's got it. Mida's TvZ is just a bonus really. MVP is going to be very similar to Soulkey as a tech pick. He's shown an impressive TvP that may allow some snipes this season, but most likely will just soak up Star points. Tech Discussion: Samsung KHAN Most teams this season opted for the cheap Woongjin Stars. At three points, the team surely looks like a dream deal, especially considering their Winners League performance. A look at their schedule though, suggest otherwise. With KHAN, T1, and KT in the first two weeks, most Stars fans shouldn't expect a major payoff coming their way anytime soon - though it is possible. Stars have gone straight to ace match several times with these teams, and will most likely do so again, meaning they won't have a high payoff. Enter Samsung KHAN. With a game against Air Force ACE this week, the team already looks cozy with a potential +6. Looking at the first two weeks, KHAN should keep up with Stars and lose minimal points, then take on ACE - who they've swept in their last two meetings - and hold up decently until Week 3 when.... drum roll Woongjin starts picking up an easy schedule, with games vs. eSTRO and ACE. Don't you just love FPL. Of course, this is all just theory-crafting, but that's the fun in it all. Good luck everyone!

![]() Wemade wasn't a fanboy pick. With Baby, Kal, Midas, Forgg, and MVP pretty much set in stone (I used recent starleague performance as a barometer, as I do most seasons), I was trying to decide between Leta/SKT1 and Jaedong/Wemade. I intially gave the nod to Leta/SKT1, but quickly found that that left me without a zerg. ![]() I actually really like Wemade this round, with Baby and Midas both playing very well as of late. It only takes two players to win a proleague match. They may not get many 3-0s and 3-1s (last night was a blessing), but I think they're a very solid pick for the value. To be honest, I didn't spend nearly as much time building my team this season as I usually do (although I didn't even play last season). I realized as I was about to go to bed the day before the deadline that I wasn't going to have any time to make a team the following day, so I threw this one together in about 30 minutes (granted still probably more time than your average FPL participant). Sigh, if only Jaedong didn't lose I would be in first with a possible commanding lead if he played and won the ace. ![]()

As a Stork and Great owner, and a Khan fan, it frustrates me that January is really dropping the ball in terms of lineup decisions.

Not a smart choice when SKT's first match is against ACE ![]() I'm sure people will happily trade for Bisu for their antis after this week, there's no reason to put someone on your anti who is on a team that plays against ACE. edit: there's an error in the results atm, it should be reality instead of rarity taking the 3rd set loss for KHAN -- this affects very few people and will be fixed as soon as a coder gets online

Hopefully he gains a ton of trade value and I can get rid of him later ^^ (maybe for some rising stars). You're gonna trade away the player that's gonna give you the most points? What?
