were beautiful weren't they? It's funny how I came across Sc. I always and still admire my older friend who is a computer gosu. I've never met someone so smart at what they're doing and I wanted to be an expert at computers too. So I decided that I would read and become gosu myself. I was always interested in hacking so I decided to join a security forum. I stayed there and learned a little about hardware.

One day while browsing the forum, they made a thread about the announcement of sc2. I've never heard of such a game and I didn't know why everyone was so excited. I checked out the linked and it seemed pretty cool. So I decided to buy the first one since the reviews for it were amazing.

When I began those first terran missions, I was amazed and dumbfounded on how great the game was. After feeling confident about beating the first sc, I decided to go on b.net. This was a day I will never forget. I was nervous, nervous because if people still play this game, they should be good.

So I joined a game and I'm pretty sure the person was korean. So I picked protoss and with my 10 apm, I begain building gateways. I had no idea of strategy and I played just how I played against a computer. I got owned really badly. I was confused because the player built two gateways and I was climbing the tech ladder really quickly. At that time, I didn't know my opponent opted for a two gate.

I left the game confused but excited. Playing against other people is way better. Which is why I wanted to get better.
(Note:I still didn't come across tl.net until my third week I believe.) So I went to the starcraft compendium and started reading. I also searched for guides and checked on the blizzard forums. One way or another I came across tl.net.

It's unfortunate I don't remember that day,but I do remember asking myself why they have horses and why the community's name was teamliquid.net.Anyway, there was this news title about the semi finals coming up. Semi-finals of what? Yes, it was the semifinals between savior and mind in the GOMTV MSL 3. I was breathless because when I began watching them play, they were way better than that kid I played on b.net. They were amazing and there was action everywhere.

I wanted to play well myself and one way or another I began to find out about protoss builds. I read on the recommended strategy threads. So I opted for two gate and just two gate for a month on b.net. What really changed how I played sc was when I found about iccup. For some reason, I was scared because I found out that good people played there.

I began downloading replays, watching vods, searching the site, looking at my own replays. The first season that I played on iccup, I was still a D-. I was still motivated and was having so much fun. I told my friends and my brother. It's too bad most of my friends play WOW and only frown upon sc. Whatever, I still loved the game and played everyday on iccup for a month and a week and reached D.

At this point, I was confused about whether or not I was improving. I was but I didn't realize at that time. My friend always teased me that I would never reach D+. I was mad that I couldn't reach D+. So I quit and I wanted to forget about sc completely. I didn't browse tl.net for a few months.I had lost that feeling of motivation and excitement. There were days where I watch vods and replays, play sc and do it for hours upon hours.

Let's face it, starcraft is unlike any other game. I came back, much to my surprise, I won quite a few games in my first pvp in a few months. Now I want to play sc again but it's alot harder. Last year, the work at school was easier but I think I could have fun with the limited time I have.

So share your first few months of sc if you want.

My story starts a while ago. I was never a hardcore gamer. Just playing a couple of games at a time, checking out the new ones that come out, looking for some old ones that still look good.

A friend of mine introduced me to a game that caught my interest. That game was Warcraft 3. I played the campaign for a while and enjoyed the game as it was the first RTS game that I had owned and was interested in (I tried and enjoyed a few before, but didnt enjoy the ones I bought ). I started playing 1v1 games mainly against my little brother. Around the same time, the same friend that had introduced me to Warcraft 3 had also introduced the game to another friend. We had never played the game against each other but we had our favorite races. I was Orc while my 2nd friend prefered using Night Elf. The only opponent I played against, my brother, used Undead.

The first friend I had mentioned, despite being the one to introduce 2 of his friends to Warcraft 3, didn't really play the game much. He had probably only told us about the game since he knew we were interested in medeival themes . Instead, he was playing another RTS game which I was told was from the same creators as Warcraft 3. By now you should have guessed, this game was Starcraft. I decided to try this game out since my friend found it better than Warcraft 3. I didn't start taking it as seriously as I took Warcraft 3 when I started so I stayed with Warcraft for now. A couple weeks later, my friend had convinced my 2nd friend to take up Starcraft and ditch Warcraft. I was still hard-headed and unconvinced.

One day, my friend had visited my house and decided to show me what he had called "the most imba thing in Starcraft." He played on Blizzard Hunters filling all the slots with computer opponents and chose Protoss as his race. I didnt know what he was doing as I wasn't paying much attention. My friend used a bunch of cheats and got out 12 Protoss Carriers. I looked at the screen thinking "wtf are these huge fish-looking structures?" he started building interceptors and soon after started attacking the computer bases. Damn was I surprised at the number of interceptors. That moment got me to start playing the game's campaign at least and put Warcraft behind me. Soon after my friend asked me to pick a main race that I would play. I didnt know which to take up. He asked what race I played back in Warcraft and to explain them to him. I described the Orc race as best I could with my very limited knowledge. From my description he had asked me to take up the Protoss race. Both my friends played Terran. My 2nd friend was the worse Terran player of the 2.

I played a few 1v1 games of Starcraft, getting owned by my friend who introduced me to the game each time. I had been playing the same way each time on LT. Play off of 1 base for a while, expo and create my then favorite "canon wall" then take the nearest island expo at 30 mins into the game, build 3 stargates + fleet beacon, and attack with the first 12 cariers. One day, I played a LAN game with my 2nd friend, the one who had played Warcraft and is playing Terran. That game lasted just as long as my regular games with me playing with the same "build." Only this time, my opponent built a bunch of marines, firebats, and medics in his main base while keeping himself at 1 base with only 9 SCVs. I don't keep my probe count to 9 probes per base but around 12 or so so I wasn't that much better. Needless to say, I won the game. It was the first game I had ever won in Starcraft which made it all the more exciting for me.

The friend I had beaten got demotivated from playing Starcraft after that game. He never felt he could get any better. Soon after, my first friend convinced him to take the Zerg race. He started playing a lot more than he did before. Around that time, I had also switched to Zerg, and played a few games on Bnet. I gave up too easily and decided to try out Terran. I wanted to choose a main race so I had tried out all three for a while. I was most comfortable playing Protoss so I stuck with that. My first friend on the other hand, started playing random and became a race picker depending on his mood. Those were the 45 apm days

The three of us soon stumbled upon Korean progaming. Our knowledge of Starcraft progaming started with a video of Boxer vs Yellow. It was the video of Boxer’s famous SCV rush. That video changed our view of the game. We started paying a closer eye to progaming still not knowing anything about the game. We started copying a few of the noticeable stuff from progamers such as expoing more frequently, building more than 3 gateways/hatches/barracks, and other basic macro stuff. Needless to say, we had improved a lot from where we started.

That summer was a devastating summer for me. I had lost my internet connection. I was unable to play on Bnet. I was still playing a bit on LAN when I get the chance though. Around that time, my friends came across a website called Teamliquid.net. They often told me about the focus to progaming, and how the community is, etc. I got my internet connection back later in the year and created my TL.net account asap. What first attracted me to TL.net was the progaming coverage. During my time at TL.net, more interesting stuff just kept popping up: TSL, TL.net Attack, etc. Nowadays when I open my Opera internet browser, the first thing I do is click the TL.net link in the speed dial screen. Even though I have no reason to check TL.net, I just visit the site anyways.

My view of Starcraft has changed a lot since the beginning. Those were the days of the 45 apm carrier Protoss I used to like. Now I’m a 150 apm Protoss and still a D on iccup. This just shows the reason I love Starcraft so much. Even though I had improved a lot since I started, I still have a very long way to go and many roads to choose from.

This really does bring back memories. I first discovered sc while at my friends house and he and his big brother were playing it on their N64 (they had rented it from Blockbuster.) It quickly fascinated me and I went out and bought it myself ($50 LOL) and my favorite map was always Brushfire. I'd build missle turrets for defense and it took me a few games to figure out that they only attacked air.

About a year later another aqcuaintance was playing SC: BW on his computer when I came over and the prospect of playing with other people and testing my skills sounded like fun. I bought the whole battle chest, only $20, cheap! And online sc began. I remember being disconnected every phone call because we had crappy 56k t.t I can't really even use the n64 version anymore because the fastest speed available on it is about equivalent to Normal with computer SC and it's painfully slow. The only thing cooler about the n64 version is your max control group size is 18 instead of 12. I'm thinking this should be patched in with 1.16.1 so i can 1a2a3a more effectively.

It was back in 3rd grade, and my friend got this new modded game called starcraft. It was japanese and had the anime Gundam ships as units etc... and I was fascinated. This was fun!

I really wanted to play against someone, but I just couldn't since it was a mod and a bootleg, so I uninstalled it and wished for it that christmas. I looked under the christmas tree, and low and behold, under wrapping and ribbons, I KNEW my parents got me the game I always wanted. I rip open the box, and I got the battle chest! I was confused that there was an expansion for the game, but more excited that I got it!

So I installed the game, and I still remember my very first online game. It was maybe the year 1999 or 2000 and before the 3v3 Zero Clutter maps, there was something called, SHARED 3v3 LOTS OF MONEY or something like that, its like that SD Fastest map u see on Asia. Well, I join it, and everyone is screaming two random letters, "T" or "B". WTF? How the hell do you type? I get yelled at for not allying some people, and unaware of how to ask for help, I quit the game.

Back in the UsEast lobby, I ask and found out you type "Enter" before your message in game. Awesome. So here I am, joined another game of similar name. I didn't think I was good enough for a one on one match yet. So another 3v3 shared lots of money game. Game starts off, I figure out how to ally, and the game gets underway. Everyone is making so many units, and so many buildings. It was so hard to keep up. After a week or so, I got the hang of making more probes/drones/scv's and making tons of gateways/hatcheries/factories and just make units!

At the time, I was reading a site called www.StarcraftGamers.com (now GosuGamers.net) and I was reading about the World Cyber Games. The WCG. I found out they had a qualifying tournament only 20 minutes away from my house at Circuit City. I was excited. I could win thousands of dollars by playing this game! I registered, and the 2003 WCG was soon to be mine! I could see it all, 13 years old and the best at Starcraft!

I arrived at Circuit City, with my mouse and headphones, and was taken to a room in the back that was filled with computers. Top 4 qualify for the semi-finals the next month, and only 2 showed up. "Wow" I thought "This will be easy! I already qualified for semi finals!"

Next month comes, and I start the tournament. I start out a Terran vs Terran and I remember watching some replays of walling off, so on Lost Temple I'm at 12:00 and I build a supply depot, barracks, and a bunker to wall off. Soon, I am met with a dropship and vultures crushing my scv's and I get pissed and leave the game.

Game two starts off very similar and I am just decimated by this guy wearing a baseball hat. I sit there and watch the rest of the players play. Their hands were dancing on the keyboards, their cursors moving sporadically across the screen. They never stopped moving their hands, and I was impressed.

Turns out the guy who beat me, is probably one of the most underrated Americans (Nyoken). I was in awe of this guy. Nyoken was amazing, he stopped GGDark in the finals who built dark templars! HE STOPPED A DARK TEMPLAR RUSH!

So I trained hard every day on lost temple, so I could one day match Nyoken. (Every year since at WCG he still destroys me T.T)

Eventually, I start reading more on the new site GosuGamers.net which StarcraftGamers.com merged with. and I read a news which backlinked to TeamLiquid.net Been here ever since!

I played SC when I was very little but then singel player only (we didn't have good enough internet). I played it some in LAN back then but really, I didn't understand that much still I played it quite a lot. Then about a year back there was no game that I currently liked and I followed the early progress of SC2 so I decided to start with Starcraft. At that point I was amazed about the fact that the game was still played and I knew that it was big in Korea.

I started of as Terran and the reason of that was because a mate of mine had sent me a The Emperor movie by boxer a few months before and even tho I didn't understand all at that point it still was amazing. So Terran it was, I sucked so much and lost everything. I then started to look for Starcraft sites and found gg.net first. It took some time before I actually started going here to TL even tho I had been here, simply cause I thought this was some kind of clan website due to the TEAM Liquid and the banner with horses.

Must have been nearly ten years ago. I have to say it was much more fun when I didn't know what was going on
