Hello everyone!
I've been laddering lately, winning, losing and such and as any gentleman or lady would do is say GG no matter the outcome of the game. Recently, whenever I have lost several games in a row and said "GG", I never truly meant it. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you have felt the same.
One day while I was streaming, I felt like doing a riské build which involved delaying my warpate research till the 10 minute mark. With much surprise, I won the game. What was even more interesting was the response that came from the opposing player. Instead of saying "GG", he said "Bon Giber". My friends who were watching the stream were as perplexed as I was.
For the next couple of games, I decided to say "Bon Giber" myself and see what effect it had on me when I lost or won a game. What I found was that saying "Bon Giber" at the end of a game I lost had an interesting effect on me. Whenever I typed out "GG" when I lost, I usually did it quickly and it was more of a piss off than anything else. Though when I said "Bon Giber", it made me chuckle a bit. I wasn't agitated or as disturbed when I lost a game, the feeling seemed to have simply rolled off, I wanted to play more, and in general it made my games more enjoyable.
So, if you're tired of saying "GG" everyday and want to try something different, try out "Bon Giber". Post your thoughts!

.....
was a banner really necessary?

you had to go make a thread about this? I prefer GG aswell.
|
|
"Bon Gibier" = French for Good Game if I'm not mistaken, so it's the same thing really.

I thought it would make the post more attractive, it took less than a minute to make.

"Bon Giber" or "Bon Gibier"? Cause the second one makes more sense since its gg in french.
|
Forget this, bring back ziziyO~!
|
If you abbreviate to BG, it'd read bad game...

I think it would be interesting to see this on NA ladder. Bon Giber sounds better than Bon Gibier IMO.

That's why typing it out adds more meaning.

Just try it out, I feel great after every game.

Im french and Gibier doesnt really mean "game" , its more about a category of animals running in forests that hunters kill -.-

I found that too, Bon Gibier didn't come up as Good Game on Google.

I like the psychological idea of this Might try it, or alternatives. New language every game! Let's hope I don't get so many losses I have to start looking up dead languages.
In keeping with my Japanese language name, "ii geemu" might be fun. "Yoku asonda" for well played, perhaps! Ooh, the possibilities are endless.

Whatever works! GG simply gets unpleasant after a while.

Anyway, I personally like to say opening phrases when I join a game in hangul because it freaks people out lol

we say the french sentence for "well played" ( bien joué ) more than good game that hasn't a really good translation in french
Bon Gibier hasn't the same meaning at all than the "gg" of Sc2 but it's really fun to say ! :D I will use it now !

In english "game" has a double meaning. It can also refers to hunted animals, so the guy who started this probably just pulled the first entry out of a French-English Dictionary without checking to see that it was the right word. What's funny is if you hadn't said anything, this guy would've gone on telling people "good hunted animal" in French lmfao.

So essentially you just took some random phrase some guy said to you and started using it in place of gg? Why not end games with "fizzle flazzle flippidy doo". It makes about as much sense....
|
It's such an ingrained habit to do [Enter]gg[enter][F10][N] immediately. I don't even care that it means nothing. I don't want to start typing words after I lose O_o
|
I like saying "I Surrender" sometimes, makes me smile a little. Usually though I don't say anything (no gl hf and no gg) unless its someone I play with regularly.

I'm going to say "Scooby-Doo" from now on.

Bon Giber still sounds better.

I don´t think it has to do with what you write just with your mindest in the game, if you just want to win you will be always be pissed off if you lose even if you write a novelle to your opponent, but when you want to improve it´s not very painfull to lose a game.

just say sugo

Lol the "I surrender" reminds me of the anime Hikaru no go :D , gonna try it may be fun.
|
Been doing it everygame, the reactions are pretty good.
|
This could also be used to intimidate your opponents. Especially if you're winning. Some good hidden knife rush BM.
|
it's much better to say bon giber. because when googled you get nothing, they get so confused lol
|
If its not a good game, why say anything at all? Most of you need to grow a pair

Why not try Spanish: buena cópula means "good contest". Really it does. Make sure you say it to everyone on the ladder.

GG is not just descriptive of the game. It's a social communication among gamers. It's become so common that its absence leaves one surprised and a little insulted, to the point that the one left in the game feels a little BM'ed. Like the feeling one has when you hold the door open for an old lady and she doesn't even acknowledge you. You don't have a vested right to it, a thank you, but you expect it anyway and when it doesn't come it can make one feel bad.

You should give a speech upon defeat.
You: Terran
Opponent: Protoss
"My fellow Terrans, I regret to inform you that the battle has turned from our favour, and our ground has been drawn into the fold of our enemy's territory. Even now, as we speak, our colonists are capitulating to the might Protoss forces, and it is with the deepest regret that I implore you, my brave soldiers, to lay down your arms and salute your new Protoss overlords. Protoss Commander, you have defeated the most brilliant minds of the Terran Dominion and our most lethal weapons. I beg of you to spare the lives of my remaining men, and I surrender to you unconditionally in exchange for their lives. Please, I ask only that you make my execution quick and painless, and that you will rule this land through Democracy and extend your most gracious hand to the human race."
